Excellent video, thank you! Where do you get the wire screen/mesh for your tripod? I can only find really fine gauze types that get holes in so quick. Yours looks nice and substantial!

Hi Soham, I was wondering could you make a video on how to make round (not half round) sterling silver balls ? much love !
@elisejensart6083

I looked EVERYWHERE for a video for that! I've learned that if you use fine silver you wont get dents in the ball and if you keep the flame on the silver once it balls up, just hold it there a little longer and it will ball up completely, you should get a perfectly round ball! Best of luck :)

Love your videos! I was taught to drill the hole if doing a hollowed form because the metal could explode during the soldering process. The air trapped inside the metal vessel expands and may cause the metal to explode! Are you saying that this potential explosion occurs because of rapid cooling during quenching and not during the intense heating at soldering? Thanks for your response! PS I learn so much from all of your videos!

This is what I was wondering as well! :)

yes, if you quench water is almost always drawn in through small holes. if you dont quench, no water to expand into steam, so no explosion

Hello! I was wondering, do you take requests for project tutorials? There's a type of ring I'm dying for and I 'm stumped on how to make it -- a bezel-set eternity band, like this: www.singlestone.com/bands_c24/gabby-medium-rose-cut_p303/ Would you be willing to shed your light on these? Thanks so much for considering, and all your wonderful videos! -Rebecca

Hi Mr Harrison! I've been inspired enough by your videos to actually start working with silver myself. I have a question about an older video you made showing how to make fire scale protection using Boric Acid and metho. All the books say to use rectified spirit (ie pure alcohol), and metho is close to it. But my problem seems to be that the Boric Acid doesn't seem to dissolve into the metho. All it seems to do is sink to the bottom and I have to stir it each time I want to paint it on. As the acid doesn't dissolve it sort of sticks to the metal with little lumpy bits of boric acid and not an even covering. I've tried several different brands of metho too but all produce the same results! Do I have to grind the boric acid to an extremely fine powder for it to work or straight out of the container? The way you show seems so simple but I just can't get your results.Any advice?

Can I use this same method (without drilling a hole) to make a domed ring?
@jennikress4940

I've always drilled at least one tiny hole in any hollow-constructed piece, someplace inconspicuous. Heard too many times about pressure buildup turning pieces into projectiles to risk trying it myself.

i thought so. too bad metal oval dapping blocks arent cheap, so i guess i have to rely on wooden ones. i hope they endure the procedure. thank you, i am looking forward to your next video already! greetings from germany!

yes! a tumbler is a must for me. quite inexpensive as well. I put some very old jewelry in, after I had already manually cleaned it, and it looked brand new. Harbor Freight's was $40, plus stainless shot
