My God how downtown Hollywood has changed! My family started going to Hollywood at Christmas time starting the mid 1960s. We stayed at the Tide Hotel at 2800 N. Surf Rd. What an amazingly simple but comfortable area. Great food, fishing, golf and sunshine. Oh how I miss that time and place. Glad to see that the actual beach is still the same.

The traffic was horrendous maybe it was a one time occurance but i must have seen 4 wrecks there. It maybe my anxiety but I just dont know about Hollywood living

Palm beach and Hollywood are definitely very different. I just put out a palm beach video. Hollywood is much bigger and this time of year even more traffic down to influx of snowbirds. Palm beach is definitely much fancier, more relaxed vibe, though there are still upscale neighborhoods in Hollywood, you will definitely see more diversity in housing options. Maybe rent an Airbnb in the area for a week to get more of a vibe. If it’s temporary, it’s no big deal you can always move back. You could always live in Fort Lauderdale or north Miami/Miami shores as well. I think one plus is it’s near a lot of areas to do things being so close to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. I’ve had my own ups and downs in Hollywood. I’d like to eventually live on the beach, maybe in surfside or around there. Anyway, I did make a pros and cons video. I was def more in the leave mood, probably bc it was during quarantine time snd I was bored at home lol. But it will give you more of idea of things to consider. But again if it’s temporary anyway, hey maybe you can enjoy the new experience for a short time then move back! The best thing about Hollywood is the beach and boardwalk! All the best to you! Thank you for watching!! So condos on Hollywood beach are a great place to live! Some of the nicest beaches of all of south Florida, with boardwalk, restaurants and turquoise waters. I haven’t been in The Quadomain building but most of those buildings are very similar built in the 70s-80s. Sone units need to updated, others already are. It’s extremely diverse, plus downtown you have so many international restaurants, Colombian, Argentinian, Turkish, Romanian, french, etc. Hollywood has a strong Latin community, but also Eastern European as well and French Canadian, so you can meet people from everywhere. That’s one thing I love about Hollywood. I don’t think they have any painting classes, but they have glass blowing classes! They are actually super cool, you can check them out here www.hollywoodhotglass.com/ in Dania Pointe shopping complex they are building an awesome bowling alley, but I don’t know if it’s done yet. But also check out Dania pointe for eating out at night. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the beach towards the airport. Also, there is shopping at Gulfstream in Hallandale and Aventura mall. All within 15-20 minutes from downtown Hollywood. Hollywood is right by Fort Lauderdale so plenty of places to enjoy there too! If you have any questions, let me know!!

Yes, the beaches of Florida do vary a lot. The north panhandle of florida around destin has white white beaches, south Florida around Hollywood to south beach has crystal aqua colored water and swim able all year. And any advice for transpiration from the Miami airport to Hollywood?
@LindseyDara
3 жыл бұрын
I def recommend, Uber bc there are buses but they go slow. With Uber it can still take 40-45 minutes if traffic isn’t bad. I recommend to go down to Lincoln Road in Miami Beach (drop off at Lincoln and Collins Avenue). Lincoln is a cute pedestrian street with shops and restaurants. I always eat at the NeXXt cafe, (it’s basically like Cheesecake Factory, same menu) but there is Cuban/Spanish/Mediterranean/sushi/shake shack all those places on Lincoln. There is a good hall behind Starbucks with lots of dif foods. And you can stroll over to south beach too. Closer to Hollywood, there is another outdoor shopping and food area called “Gulfstream” and it’s about 15 minutes from Hollywood beach. If you want a humidity break, check out Aventura mall about 20 minutes from Hollywood, it’s huge inside and plenty of AC :) also, close to Hollywood is Fort Lauderdale which has a beach and they have a cute downtown to stroll in the afternoon or fun at night too! Tell Uber to take you to Las Olas or if you want more nightlife, “Himarshee street.” So that should keep you busy for 5 days! I’d recommend flying into Fort Lauderdale airport of possible as it’s only 10-15 minutes to Hollywood beach. If you have a hotel already booked see if you can call then and see about an airport transfer. From Miami, if they don’t have an airport shuttle, there are taxis, Uber or something called “super shuttle” which can save you money, cheaper than a taxi! Ok, hope those tips help! I should make a video about this!

Is it easy to commute to Miami in the mornings?
@LindseyDara
4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Id loved to give you suggestions! What type of suggestions are you looking for? As far as morning commute to Miami downtown depends on the time you go but on average 30-45 minutes maybe faster if you go the express lanes, but if there is an accident it can take over an hour. Usually that happens at least once a week. Personally I don’t recommend living in Hollywood and commuting to Miami. I’ve done it and it’s not fun. The drive is tedious and tons of traffic. Maybe Miami shores or Coconut grove would be closer. Also you could take the tri rail but that may take longer. Let me know what other questions you have. Thanks for watching!

We're visiting this weekend. Thank you for this helpful video! We're 9 friends for 30 years. Any restaurant recs for a larger group like us in dwntn Hollywood? And live music or dancing place for 40 something's? 🙂
@LindseyDara
4 жыл бұрын
The only dancing place I know of is Spice and it is a more salsa type of music, but it may depend on the night. Alot of the restuarants in downtown hollywood are a bit on the smaller side due the building design, but the Greek Joint or Tipsy Boar are good places, but there are many to choose from, walking around you may see something you like. Many tend to be international cuisine. On Hollywood Beach there is a band shell on the boardwalk in front of the margaritaville hotel that has live music often and alot of the bars on the broadwalk have live music especially on the weekend. Another area I would recommend eating is at the Gulfstream Park, its in Hallandale beach about 10 minutes sound of Hollywood Downtown. They have some bigger restuarants like the Yard House which is great at accomodating groups. And a nice area to walk around at night and shops. It is a horse racing park. Also, back on Hollywood beach there is Taverna Opa, good for groups. Though I remember it is expensive, but that goes for most restaurants on the beach. Taco Spot is good for tacos and burritos and Florio's has a pizza and you can sit outside. Walking up and down the broadwalk on saturday night, should be alot fun and relaxing. Have Fun!

I can imagine it use to be a more happening place but now almost 30 years later it has unfortunately gone downhill, the arcade has pretty much closed, even when I moved here in 2010 it had more going on but now it’s pretty much rundown and sketchy. There are letters falling off the sign now since I made this video and inside it’s just not as clean and it’s usually just empty inside these days, and bathrooms dirty and nobody around. Stores usually closed. It has so much potential but it’s prime it’s past. More action up by margaritavilla these days. Not sure what’s going to happen to it, but it’s def the shell of a bygone era these days. Glad you got to enjoy it in the past! Thanks for commenting!!

Anybody know why Google Maps refuses to show a walking route on A1A from Miami Beach to Hollywood Beach? Seems to want to force us into US1 between Bal Harbor and Golden Beach. I understand these are maybe exclusive neighborhoods.. but Ive seen people bike this path and know it can be walked.
@LindseyDara
3 жыл бұрын
I know that Bal harbour and Sunny isles Beach are separated by an inlet there, so you will have to go over the bridge on Collins (A1A). Then once you cross over, it takes you to Haulover beach then to Sunny isles, I’m not sure if there is a walking path, but you can walk on the beach. In Golden beach you will have to walk on the street side walk as the homes there are directly on the ocean and that beach is private. In Hollywood, I know the hollywood board walk does end and there is a street by the beach, but it also comes to an end, so some parts you may have to walk on either the beach or on A1A - the street side walk. I hope that makes sense. It can be walked, but there is not one continuous path from south beach to Hollywood beach just along the beach only. 👍🏼

Maybe check out Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale? If you have a car or take an Uber, it’s about 15 minutes north. More scenery and nice restaurants there. Big city, Louie bossi, Luigi’s, etc. downtown Hollywood which is only about 5 minutes has a bunch of restaurants, but I usually just go to chocolada, it’s a bakery. You can get a sweet treat and sit on the patio. There is usually street parking available just steps from the restaurant. Most places in Fort Lauderdale offer valet so your mom wouldn’t have to walk far if you have your own car. Otherwise uber can just drop you right in front. There is a nice seafood restaurant on the water in Fort Lauderdale called “coconuts” and it’s nice for watching the sunset. There are boat tours in Fort Lauderdale like the jungle queen which is like a dinner cruise. Also there are just boat canal tours. It may require some walking on and off the boat, but otherwise it’s just sitting and touring the canals of the area with some history of the area. www.carriebcruises.com/ www.junglequeen.com/special-rates-discounts/ There may be a water taxi from Hollywood to Fort Lauderdale, might have to look that up, but could be an option too. Hope that gives you some ideas. Usually Wednesday nights there is a free concert at the bandshell on the boardwalk, by margaritavilla, so that’s an idea. Enjoy your trip!

In general anything along the coast between US1 and the beach will be the most expensive areas. That’s true from Miami up to west palm and north. Jupiter is a very nice area. Palm beach county in general is very nice. West palm, palm beach, Jupiter, delray, boca ratón all very nice. In broward again anything east of US 1. Lighthouse point, las olas, the isles around las olas and downtown Fort Lauderdale. In Miami dade, Aventura, sunny Isles Beach, bal harbour, surfside, la gorce area on Miami Beach, and South of Fifth on Miami Beach. Coconut grove, coral gables and pine crest way down south. There are many areas west of 95 that are nice too, but I figure most people moving south want beach access and living west of 95, you aren’t as easily able to have that beach lifestyle.

Anything east of interstate 95 will be about 10-15 minutes, and all the areas above fall into that category. Can’t really go wrong in palm beach county, it’s all nice for the most part, but there are more expensive areas like palm beach island. Only area I would avoid is riviera beach area north of west palm. Heard there can be drug activity in that area. I haven’t been there, but that’s what west palm friends have told me. I’m more familiar with broward and Miami Dade cities though. All the cities I listed above are within 10-15 minutes of the beach and safe areas, but never leave valuables or purses or anything like that in the car, they are frequently stolen, especially in beach areas and beach parking!

What are the safest areas in Hollywood to live? What are the average rental prices like?
@LindseyDara
3 жыл бұрын
For 1bdrm it can range from $1,100-1,500 and 2bdrm $1500-2500+ depending on if it’s older or newer. The prices are pretty typical to south Florida in general. As far as safe areas, in general Hollywood is pretty safe. But the most activity usually happens in the neighborhoods between i95 and east to Dixie highway. But sometimes it’s just a few streets, but anywhere along Dixie can have its rough spots. I like south of young circle, and east of young circle/US1 toward the beach. A favorite complex is the Sheridan ocean club, had several people I know there in that area. Also, emerald hills snd hollywood hills area is nice and family friendly. That is west of I95 to 56th avenue. If you are able to drive around you can get a feel for the area. In general, the areas I drove in this video are very safe, popular areas to live. Living on the beach especially is very safe. And sometimes you can find some deals there. If you have further questions let me know!

@LindseyDara

It’s just seen better days, run down inside in the common areas and kinda sketchy. Feels kinda abandoned. Though it is popular with short term rentals, they look nice but sometimes they have leaks or other issues from what I’ve heard. But it’s right on the beach and boardwalk, so that’s pro. You should be fine, have a great time!

That Ramada downtown has been very good to me over the years. I can get a bus to the track for like $1. Walkable to some good eating and drinking spots across the street. Now that may not be the case today, just how it was for me the last few times. So much has changed in Hollywood. The Starbucks I loved in Young Circle was gone last time. When I lived on the beach in 1996, it was $550/month for Presidential Towers (now called The Wave). Now those units sell for a quarter million, and the monthly dues are what I paid in rent. It was like a ghost town when I lived there, every day coming home from work was like a vacation. There was a shop in Young Circle that paid me for my music CD's. Work was about impossible to get and that ultimately killed it for me. Again, my description of the place is probably going false as I type.

Yes, that starbucks is gone, don't know why. I use to go there alot too. The downtown still has many restaurants, but the Ramada itself doesn't seem well kept and still stuck in 90s feeling, and the crowd around there these days is a bit iffy. Could use a facelift. But yea, jobs here are still hit or miss. And the jobs that are available don't pay enough to live in the area. So that is a big problem for many. And the cost of living on the beach is quite high these days. Very popular and attracts people from all over the world! So high demand. But I still enjoy the boardwalk and the beach is well kept and very clean, best part of Hollywood!

I remember the Presidential Towers. In the early '90s I lived in The Galahads, 3000 S. Ocean Dr. in a spacious 2/2, 7th fl.overlooking the Intracoastal for $700/mo. Now it's all condo and called The Residences of Hollywood Beach.

is hollywood a safe area? near young circle, cost of living seems low compared to the rest of the county
@LindseyDara
4 жыл бұрын
Ayman Elian I think the cost of living is pretty much similar to the rest of broward county. There are cheaper neighborhoods and more expensive areas. The closer to the beach and renovated properties tend to be more expensive. I would say cost of living is a bit high compared to average local salaries. Food can be expensive. But, Young circle is a popular area, with locals and tourists, and has two high rise condo buildings and you can walk to restaurants and bars. It’s safe, but like anywhere in south Florida, especially near the beach, it’s not recommended to leave valuables in the car.

Yes these are not scary. There aren’t any big bridges in South Florida. Now the bridge in Tampa connecting st. Pete with south Tampa, is scary lol. I drove over it once and never again lol. I think it’s called the skyway bridge. Lots of KZitem videos of it.

@LindseyDara

You can see the entrance kinda at 11:07 back behind the trees. If you drive north on A1A, passed Sheridan street. There are townhomes on the left intercoastal waterway side and then you will pass 4 big houses on the left and after that is the entrance, but there are several entrances. You can park at the park on the intercoastal. The one between Pershing and custard streets. Once you park, walk towards the intercoastal water way and there is a walk way along the water. Thanks for watching!
