Travel life hack, when traveling as someone with dietary preferences you should always remember to contact the airline early and book your meal in advance. Most airlines have options for basically any diet you can think of, including vegan and vegetarian, even for economy. They just don’t prepare them unless asked, as it’s cheaper and easier to serve the same two or so options to everyone.

Issue with accomidating all diets is that they usually use common allergens to replace stuff that they can't have; Coconut, tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, honey....the list goes on. It becomes a liability keeping all those foods on a plane. It's easier and safer to simply have a very limited selection of higher quality products and in the worst case be liberal with the drinks to cover for any obvious gaps in the food.
@Jack_Rakan

Exactly, they'd have to fill half the cargo bay with different food options only to have to throw 80% of it away regularly when they go bad. Absolutely not worth it for the air lines to just throw money away like that.
@Spyduck
3 ай бұрын
Yeah, as much as I would agree with Fauna to have their/her needs catered, her suggestion simply ignores the precise logistics that airlines adhere to for both costs and efficiency, add that to _every_ flying airplane and you have a major liability that even a few vegans per flight cannot pay for.
@TF_NowWithExtraCharacters
3 ай бұрын
@@Spyduck One possible way would be to have a vegan-friendly base meal that comes with meat toppings, then keep a few spare untopped ones in case of vegan needs. Think aglio olio or pasta in tomato sauce, with the meat protein added on. It's still going to be a significant change, but way more doable than having Sets A - C for each type of diet. Or like how the Japanese airlines do it, besides the regular menu they also have a allergen-friendly Set A and a super-strict allergen-friendly Set B (omits more stuff) that you can order ahead of time.
@luminatrixfanfiction
3 ай бұрын
@@TF_NowWithExtraCharacters problem is tomato sauce isn't vegan friendly unless you get the vegan version of it. Pretty much almost everything is not vegan friendly in this world. Worcestershire sauce is made from fermented fish. Soy sauce as well. Even fruit and vegetables itself is not directly vegan friendly either because in order for these fruit to grow in the first place, it needs fertilizer and that comes from animals. It's a pipe dream for vegans to think they are adhering to a vegan diet. Even non-food such as cars and clothes come from animals. For example, the oil in the car and the lubricant (esseentially animal fat) in every crevice of the car comes from animals. Anyway, just wanted to point that out.
@deadlymecury

Hm, I think the way they handle it right now is they ask your preference when you register on a flight online. They ask what kind of meal / diet you want and the list is quite long with all various stuff. Probably they take these preferences + couple of spare for emergency, the rest (who did not choose anything or did not register online) probably use "regular options". And it feels like amount of special dinners is extremely limited because they double confirm that I indeed reserved that option. Not just giving option by seat number but first question if I requested special option and after that asking what exactly did I ordered, and then after giving correct answer they give your food separately from "regular" - with different cart or simply bringing it personally from the kitchen compartment.

A lot of reasons someone might take the extra step to remove all animal-based products from their lifestyle, although the most common is usually just the desire to subsist without needing to support raising animals just to get nutrients from them. Of course, humans are omnivores, but that also means it is very possible and easy for us to live without meat. There's so many examples these days from research, and athletes even just this past Olympics that have won gold medals while being 100% vegan. It's difficult for a lot of vegans to try and explain why, because it will always sound like "What, so you're implying I'm wrong for eating meat?", from the person that asked's perspective. But it really is that basic. If you saw someone talking about a delicious dog that they ate earlier that day, you would probably feel some strong emotions inside because that's not a normal thing in a lot of cultures. That's the feeling that a lot of vegans have but for any animal. There's no real major difference between a dog and a pig when it comes to intelligence, besides culture. Anyway, I used to be one of those gung-ho type vegans when I newly became one for a few years, but these days I'm too tired and it's too stressful. I just do me, and will sometimes chime in to help explain online if anyone is genuinely curious and not asking in bad faith.
@Icetea-2000
12 күн бұрын
@@WeebHutJr But I don’t have a problem with vegetarians, so I don’t hear it as "What so you're implying I'm wrong for eating meat?". You’re arguing about eating meat and how a dog and pig are similar so why aren’t you a vegetarian? I understand why someone would not want to eat meat, although I don’t personally do that, but that’s not what veganism is, is it? Let’s say a hypothetical scenario, you live in your own country house and have pet chicken, cows and sheep, not with any intent of eating them, they just live there. Well they would naturally lay eggs, need to be milked, and need to be sheared. Vegans say they are vegans because eating eggs at a farm that also sells chicken meat supports that meat too. But if you exactly know where they are coming from and that they are produced anyway, and in fact in terms of cows and sheep NEED to be taken care of for the well being of the animal, then there should be no problem for a vegan to eat eggs, drink milk and wear wool. It especially doesn’t make sense with honey, bees produce honey as a sideproduct anyway, they produce WAY more honey than they need, and unlike chicken, no one eats bees themselves. The fact that even honey is off limits just tells me that even to their own logic Veganism doesn’t make much sense. No animal is being harmed in any way in the things I listed, yet vegans just don’t think about what makes sense and just pertain to it like a holy creed that shall not be questioned.

@@WeebHutJr Also there are many olympic sports and physical activities that vegans haven’t reached or would be several times more harder with a vegan diet. No "vegan bodybuilder" is even close to anywhere relevant in the competitive scene.

@@Icetea-2000 The Dairy and Egg industry is actually very cruel if you look into it. Calves are taken away from their mothers right after birth in order for farmers to take the milk instead. The cows are kept constantly pregnant to keep producing milk, until they're dried up and sent to slaughter. Chickens are a more nuanced argument I agree, especially when we talk about backyard ones. But they will actually eat their own eggs if they aren't fertilized in order to regain the calcium and nutrients lost from laying them. The natural thing would be to let them do so to live out a healthy life. It's not just the killing them for meat part that vegans are against, it's the whole trapping them and using them for their bodies in general (and they still end up at the end of a knife once we've extracted what we can.)

bruh thank you. Vegans had a massive boom in the late 2010s, me being one of them that got caught up in it. Protests and stuff still happen, but basically the world became more aware of it and now there's a ton more substitutes and options for people that follow a vegan diet, that I'd imagine this is the reason it seems like the movement died down. Legit, the majority of the time I see more people complaining about vegans for just mentioning it in passing when either asked, or when necessary to clarify what food they can eat, with the non-vegan bringing up old stereotypes as a result. Like dood, it's alright we're not trying to convert you anymore. If you're curious you can ask and we'll talk about it but otherwise it's whatever.

A bit out of topic but i hope development for vegan meat, or lab-grown meat, or other meat alternatives continue to develop and can recreate meat but not involving an animal. Why you might ask? Imo we need an affordable meat and with current practices unless we go literally inhumane, there's no making them any cheaper especially with demand getting higher each year due to on average the world getting wealthier. If we can mass produce meat at least in the same efficiency as crops, it will be very beneficial to the world's quality of life as a whole. Though there will be 2 kinds of meat doe, premium pasture meat and affordable alternative meat.

That's...not true at all. Rice, Beans, Pasta, Tomatoes, Veggies, Tofu (Yes, I know, but there's an incredible number of ways to bake it, fry it, grill it, and more or less transform it into different forms with different flavors that a lot of people just haven't tried), are all pretty cheap. Meat's usually the most expensive shopping cart item, and dollar menus don't even exist anymore when it comes to fast food. I acknowledge that food deserts do exist and there are some situations where it actually is very difficult, but for most cases, it's really not a money issue. It's incredibly easy. If someone's genuine about wanting to try a vegan diet, it just requires a little bit of research and you'll find there's actually a lot more you can have than you probably thought.

Dont know cause i switch to carnivore and its even cheaper then traditional diet cause you dont have to eat 3 meals a day and constantly munching to keep the insulin high. Just one meal maybe a night snack and that it. I was first little puzzled because plants are cheaper then meat. But because you eat large quantities all the time no wonder its so expensive. I buy meat in bulk on sale and freeze it. Go to groceries every one or two weeks but technically can shop just once a month. Compare to my mother that go almost every day at least for fresh bread and i was also going at least 3 times a week.
