If was plenty bright for daytime shooting, and my curiosity was piqued after seeing it do well in daylight, so I decided to see how long it would stay on at the medium “6” brightness setting. Woke up the next morning, and without turning on any lights, the dot was still on. So these are good for at least 7 hours on the medium brightness setting. I was super impressed.

I really try not to be such a Holosun fan boy. But they make that a very difficult prospect. They are the first company in a while to really try to innovate in practical ways as far as reflex dots go while keeping prices reasonable. I understand that it is difficult for other companies to meet that price point since labor and equipment is often more expensive than in China. But reflex sights have been around for decades now. Especially with the AEMS actually performing reasonably well for night vision use. It's difficult to justify using anything else these days.

Very interesting - this tech is also likely used in the large MG reflex sights that Holosun/Huanic produces for PLA vehicle mounted heavy MG's (large, scaled-up versions of the 510 - supplied under the brand "Hwoyoung" for domestic sales to the PLA and PAP). The HS510c was also seen in use last fall in the 80th Army Group of the PLA in a joint military exercise in southern Russia - the HS510c was used in combination with the 3x magnifier atop the new QBZ-191 assault rifle. I've got a Vortex UH-1 on one gun and a 510 on another... switch everything off and stick them in a case for a few months, come back and guess what: the Holosun is 100% good to go, while invariably the Vortex holo will have completely discharged its battery despite being powered off. The first time I just assumed I was incompetent and had somehow left the holosight on, and that somehow it had failed to auto-power-off. I replaced the battery, double-checked the sight was off and stored both guns again. Came back again a few months later and the Vortex had done the exact same thing again. I have to store the Vortex with its battery removed. The 510 never misbehaves, and it's smaller and lighter and cheaper and has a drastically-crisper reticle. Surely there's got to be a scenario in which the magic holographic reticle affords some kind of extra utility, but as someone who isn't a real operator and just plinks at targets from time to time, I haven't found it.

It's largely due to the large US military contracts - that's where most of the money is, so the consumer market takes a back seat. Huanic (Holosun's parent company) uses the US commercial market for beta testing, along with the People's Armed Police (the optics are branded as "Hwoyoung" for domestic contracts). They're just now being adopted in certain units of the PLA (HS510c & magnifier for the QBZ-191, and the 507c on sidearm).

Not quite the same POU setting but choose for me anyway between these 3: -Holosun Dot Sight CLASSIC HS510C red dot and HM3X magnifier SET -Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 AR-BDC3 (MOA) Reticle -Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x24 FFP EBR-8 (MOA) Reticle

What’s the reticle like when it’s running on the flux capacitor?

That’s pretty cool. But like have you checked out that view? That’s what I’m here for.

I have one on my AK pistol and I beat the absolute crap out of it and it holds zero and works perfectly! I have aimpoints and Eotechs and this Holosun rivals them. John Lovell and Travis Haley turned me on to them and I have not been let down!

I think you wrong. What you demonstrated was auto brightness vs manual. When you covered the sight it adjusted to changed lighting conditions. This is just my opinion based on experience. I own 15+ holosun sights. Nice view, by the way.

Some say H510C or EXPS3, I say both. Both look good under nods, EXPS3 is still king at NV, but 510C is light and has been on many of my guns.

I’ve never once considered using nv behind a 1x optic. Head mounted nods and lasers are so vastly superior in my experience. That said…for some unknown reason I keep buying the nv compatible versions.

@@thopkins2271 I would agree, I like knowing that passive aiming is an option but an IR laser is much better.

Does this have to be enabled/disabled? I was under the impression the 510c and 512c weren't even able to use "solar" mode without the battery inserted.

No, it does it all the time. The only thing you can turn off is the auto-brightness setting.

Holosun is probably the only Chinese optic I would by. Though I did just sell my 510c the other day, kept my Eotech.
