What is said about unmarked graves is simply not to be assumed to be a Catholic issue. These graveyards had wooden crosses and were used to bury residents of the local community not especially Indigenous. The local government failed to replace the wooden crosses that simply rotted away ( stone was never used) and never replaced and therefore they are unmarked this was not a responsibility of the Catholic Church!! The abuse which indigenous people are complaining about is largely that they were 'subjected to Catholic teaching' and removed from their families under Canadian Government direction. Given that the Canadian Government contracted out and required by law that indigenous children had to be educated, many in Catholic schools , what did they expect ? Many of these schools were set up by French missionaries suffering great hardship in so doing and translating the Liturgy into the local language. This is not to say that just as there is in any and all institutions there was no doubt physical abuse , however awful as this was it is not the main issue at stake here. I have do doubt that the Canadian government fears a major compensation claim from the 1.8 m indigenous population and the Trudeau government wants to divert the claim onto the Catholic Church.

Wilton Gregory merely "centre-left" according to John: 1."With a controversial Roman Catholic in the White House, there was no way for Cardinal Wilton Gregory to face a pack of Beltway journalists without fielding political questions. Job No. 1 was addressing President Joe Biden's statement: "I respect them - those who believe life begins at the moment of conception and all - I respect that. Don't agree, but I respect that." The leader of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has made it clear that Biden can receive Holy Communion. However, Gregory also noted, "The Catholic Church teaches, and has taught, that life - human life - begins at conception. So, the president is not demonstrating Catholic teaching." 2. "But the country’s only black archbishop .........sharply took to task not only President Trump but the country’s biggest Catholic lay organization - the Knights of Columbus - after Trump posed for photos outside an Episcopal Church near the White House and a Knights-owned Catholic shrine in Northeast Washington. “I find it baffling and reprehensible that any Catholic facility would allow itself to be so egregiously misused and manipulated in a fashion that violates our religious principles," he said in a statement." So - according to John and Gregory both 'centre' leftists - Biden is merely naughty but can receive the Eucharist publicly but the Knights "egregiously... violates our religious principles"

What we want, JoAnne -- and I think that includes you -- is for SOMETHING to remain unchanged, in a time when everything is changing, not necessarily for the better -- in fact, nothing seems to be changing 'for the better'. I'm 73, and I haven't been a practicing Catholic for 50 years (give or take), and I find myself wishing it was the 1950s once again. The Latin Mass for SO beautiful. We knew how to behave. We knew what was expected to us in Catholic school. We all knew what was right and what was wrong. A list of venial sins was printed on one side in The Missal, and the mortal sins were listed on the opposite page. Unless a woman went to work as a teacher or a nurse, wives/mothers stayed home. Of course, husbands were beating their wives, and mothers/wives were closet alcoholics. I grew up on the same neighborhood block with the same families -- I don't remember any happy marriages and/or families. But everything was the same and remained the same. There was a sense of security in that, false as it was. Now -- we don't know if we're coming or going -- and that includes The Church. The Church KNOWS that the laity is leaving in droves (and has been for the last 20+ years). It has no idea why that is happening. And, except in Germany, this synod stuff is a joke. However, The Church -- The Pope -- is pretending that it will make things better. NOT a chance when celibate old men retain all the power and control. //// My heart goes out to you, JoAnne. My heart goes out to me. I feel life is like a boat that is sinking -- and there is nothing for us to hold onto so that we don't drown. I don't know what the answers are. I do know that I love Psalm 46: "Be still and know that I am God." I wish you well.

That’s the goal, never mind that they’re ignoring other rights of the church such as the various eastern rights in these false proclamations of unification, they want to stamp out all sacred tradition because it runs counter to their program. Mind you I think liberation theology can be useful and make some good points, but when the focus becomes social justice and fails to be Christ and his sacrifice, we are no longer the church, we’re a bunch of bloody activists. Paul the sixth towards the end of his papacy he knew that something had gone wrong, not necessarily with the counsell itself but with it’s repercussions and implementation, unfortunately he did not have the strength and wherewithal to right the ship, and for the most part those who followed him did not either with the exception of Benedict the 16th.

This is what a former Bishop did by assigning reactionary priests to my former parish in the Diocese of Arlington, when he wanted to get rid of a progressive streak in the parish. When the new pastor had seen off about 800 families, he told the Bishop that "I got rid of the troublemakers." That parish also was a money maker. @@travellinmark2745 So why do prominent intellectuals who identify explicitly as progressive such as, Alan Dershowitz, Richard Nisbett, Steven Pinker, Helen Pluckrose, John McWhorter, Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying so vigorously criticise the attacks on truth and freedom originating in leftist intolerance on college campuses? Frank Bruni, a homosexual black man and leftist who was for over over a decade a columnist for the New York Times, wrote in his final column: "I worried, and continue to worry, about the degree to which I and other journalists - opinion writers, especially - have contributed to the dynamics we decry: the toxic tenor of American discourse, the furious pitch of American politics, the volume and vitriol of it all.. we may be encouraging arrogance and unyieldingness in our readers, viewers and listeners." At this point in history only a recalcitrant moron believes the Left is tolerant. Innocent men and women who have the audacity to be unashamed Trump supporters are literally hunted down whilst conservative Supreme Court Justices lives are illegally upended at their homes and their lives are threatened.

@@Canisius19 Oh Stevem now you are just being silly. The priests that molested generations of young boys and young men and young girls and young women were proven to be from all segments of the the church's spectrum, and more importantly, those who shared in their sins by protecting them by moving them from parish to parish or country to country were bishops, cardinals and popes, going back to the Piuses, and including Benedict and Saint John Paul II. You know that and I know that. And many of the serving priests who committed grave sins by staying silent when they knew these men were committing these crimes and broke civil laws as well are still in ministry today. Many of them received Holy Orders or were ordained by men in a state of grave sin at the time of the ordinations because of their participation in the coverup of this sex abuse scandal. I urge you to think and pray before you try to place the blame for this horrendous stain on the entire church on one side or the other. May the peace of Christ be with you and with us all.

Participants in the diocesan phase of the synod on synodality in Luxembourg have called for a change in Church teaching on homosexuality and the abolition of mandatory priestly celibacy. Their appeal was cited in a 16-page report following a consultation process involving 4,590 Catholics in the Archdiocese of Luxembourg, which is led by Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich. 1. The reports on “unmarked graves” of indigenous children are proven slanderous and no objective archaeological findings support these claims. 2. The Pope never apologised for this or hinted at it in his speech. 3. The Canadian government has cleverly deflected the responsibility for this disaster on the Catholic Church. That’s hanging a baker for the smith. This exact policy was executed in Norway and in the United States on indigenous minorities. No Catholics there! But the abuse was certainly no less obvious. 4. Why Catholics are judged by higher standards is beyond belief. 5. I think the Pope has been prudent in his approach even this mission is impossible. With God’s Grace everything is possible.

The media of the Church should tell the people an orderly account of the things that had happened just as they were delivered to them by those persons /priests / government men who have made a study of the matter and the Report of the Canadian government's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) that the people may know the truth concerning what they are being told. Let me reproduce a part of my Reply of 10th July 2021, last year to a media of the Church. 1) I do not know much about the "horror" of the "residential schools" (boarding schools) for the "Indians" of Canada and the faults and wrongs of the leaders of the Catholic Church. We have to FIRSTLY see what the leaders in the Government and in the Church in Canada and their media, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission there, are telling the people about WHAT HAPPENED. 2) From what I understand the root of the whole problem was the taking away by force by the Government of "Indian" indigenous children from their parents /families and putting them in "residential schools", about two-thirds of which were managed by religious orders in the Catholic Church in Canada, with the purpose to "civilise" them and "kill the Indian in the child". The children and their parents /families were not allowed to see each other for many years. It is important for a person to know, understand and talk this before he talks about anything else.

It is all about money. Media claims of mass graves at Catholic Indian Residential Schools still haven't been substantiated. No remains have been unearthed yet in Kamloops, British Columbia, where allegations first broke in May of 2021 of alleged mass graves (215 bodies supposedly) used for abused native American children. Despite this, Pope Francis still apologized this week for abuses that apparently or allegedly took place at these schools, abuses many attribute to a lack of funding from the Canadian Government. The Pope has apologized (for the fourth time) for Christian participation in the assimilation program created by the Canadian government and empowered by the Indian Act. The Indian Act concerns registered Indians, their bands, and the system of Indian reserves and the intent to do away with them and was first passed in 1876 and still is in force with amendments. The Pope called for a full investigation of the alleged abuses so that justice can be done. He did not apologize for mass abuses, murder and genocide perpetrated by the Church, that obviously did not occur. He did not apologize for mass graves of Church victims which have never been discovered and do not exist.

Re Opus Dei. Allen misses the MOST important point. Pope Francis wants the organization/community to revisit its original CHARISM as a primarily LAY COMMUNITY with a rather specific MISSION to accomplish in the Church. Given that, there is NO NEED for Opus Dei to have a bishop at its head. There will be some changes made I would suppose, but in the direction of lay people coming up in the leadership structure. Opus Dei has been too much RULED by clerics. That was not the original intent of its foundation. Allen fails as an amateur historian to note this rather PROMINENT reason why Opus Dei is being restructured!!! Too much politics in his mind!
