I assume this needs an ability to connect remotely?

Yes and No. 😊 If you are sitting in your driveway and connected to your home network but not cellular, then you still get the functionality (as you would if you had your companion app running at home). But it you are not connected to your home network or any network then no, you can't connect to your HA instance and as such it will not function.

Would you ever consider doing a video on how to create a dashboard button for card that would execute a scene which is a collection of lights? I’m having a difficult time as a new person in this software learning how to do those kind of things

Hi @rcperkjr, its a good point, I should put together a beginners guide as HA can be very daunting. I'll see if I can fit it into the schedule. :)

@@smart_home_australiathanks for even considering it! After 5 days from hearing about HA and today… I have almost everything connected, a beautiful multi-tab Dashboard with my housemates all connected. As I continue to build out the dashboard I find I want to do things I haven’t yet figured out. I am stuck on just a couple things… simolisafe cameras aren’t an object in HA. I FINALLY got simolisafe to work, everything but the cameras and doorbell are functioning! Arlo live streaming is also not functioning. Otherwise things are working pretty good thus far. Thank you for your content it’s been a very big help!

Congrats for the video! I would like to know if it is also possible to make a connection to Home Assistant Media (to listen to the music contents of the server). Thank you

Just did a quick test and YES :). Plug in your phone. Go into the Home Assistant companion App, go to MEDIA (in the left hand menu, Navigate to your music and press play. The music will come through Apple CarPlay. You get basic controls for play, pause and forward and back. Drilling on the Apple CarPlay just takes you to the Home Assistant app, so not super helpful. But this might be something that is coming in future releases.

@@smart_home_australia OK thank you! but I thought I could already operate Media on Carplay, so it's not possible yet.

Yes to play through Home Assistant companion App and CarPlay but with no control.

Wonder if we would be able to make a CarPlay dashboard at some point.

Hi @boudewijndejong9134, I had the same thought. But as I mentioned in the video Apple certification is extremely stringent, so I don't think this is going to be possible. But fingers crossed.

In the Actions tab, is it not possible to see the device status (On/Off)?

Not in Actions as far as I'm aware, but yes in Areas, when you drill down.

Making the action doesn’t work in CarPlay, it shows up buy nothing happens. I’ve ran the automation and that works, but pressing the button on CarPlay doesn’t. No idea why. This is the error I get from the logs. 2024-02-01 17:53:02.572 ERROR (MainThread) [homeassistant.components.automation.carplay_home_alarm_on] Carplay Home Alarm On: Error executing script. Invalid data for call_service at pos 1: must contain at least one of entity_id, device_id, area_id. Any help would be so appreciated!

Hi @anf8701, The error seems to be in your action, check shorturl.ac/7cxt9, that said you said you ran the automation and it worked which is strange to say the least. What's the YAML for the automation? Maybe someone in the community can suggest a resolution.

@@smart_home_australia Here’s the YAML code for the automation: alias: Carplay Garage Door description: "" trigger: - platform: event event_type: ios.action_fired event_data: actionname: Garage Door Close condition: [] action: - service: switch.toggle metadata: {} data: {} target: device_id: a93dbe398b705724a8b3cc42fd3a3c1d mode: single

OK I did a quick test on my AC with the following and it worked fine (device id changed). I'd suggest, change the actionname to something simple, "garagedoor" (remember this is internal and not the display name). Also since the error message relates to the action (which you said works from HA), then change this to the entity (switch.xxxx) for the AC and not the device (view the device id). Anyone else got any suggestions? alias: CARPLAY - AC description: "" trigger: - platform: event event_type: ios.action_fired event_data: actionName: AC condition: [] action: - service: switch.toggle metadata: {} data: {} target: device_id: 89ae451c04e957cc8a65a4xxxxxxxxxx mode: single

So I did try a simple name and that didn’t help. I was a bit confused about what you mean with the entity change, can you give me a sample of how it would look. This is the entity of the device switch.garage_door_switch_0 I really appreciate your help!

Hi @anf8701, in the example below, the first one is selecting the entity and the second one is for the device. Try both targets and see if that makes any difference. condition: [] action: - service: switch.toggle metadata: {} data: {} target: entity_id: switch.air_conditioner - service: switch.toggle metadata: {} data: {} target: device_id: 89ae451c04e957cc8a6XXXXXXXXXXX mode: single
