Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥 #HomeFree #AdamRuppSinging

This one really hits in the emotions. It is so hauntingly melancholy. The harmonies in this are some of their best. A happy holiday song is needed to lift ones spirits after that. Check out their Do You Hear What I hear. Home Free always touches you in some way; happy, sad, thoughtful, joyful, and sometimes just plain silly. You should also check out some of their solo work and Individual collaborations such as Tim Faust and Peter Hollens singing Misty Mountains or Chance and the Hound and the Fox singing Wayfaring Stranger.Or there is Tim and Austin doing My Maria or Austin and Rob singing opera. The options are limitless and growing. Love your channel and your reactions.

I have always been a fan of this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. I love that they don't overproduce their songs. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

Tim choose to do this in a breathy voice because he is singing as a dying soldier on the field of battle talking to his fellow soldiers. It one of the things I love about Tim's bass voice he changes his tone depending on the song. The way he sung here is different than how he sings Everybody walkin this land which is different to how he sings Misty Mountains etc. Not to mention that with his 5 octave range he sings from bass to high tenor. His voice is so multifaceted.

Hi Red, this was beautiful, the original by Dire Straits always made me cry, this is no different. If only songs, lyrics, could actually bring about the changes the world needs, ‘cos they should! That we fight each other over imaginary borders on behalf of the hatred of old men, seems to me to be crazy & deeply immoral. Sigh🤦♀️😢 On a lighter note, check out Pentatonix “Kiss From A Rose”. RHN - I'm glad you got to this one early in your Home Free experience. It's a great song, and HF's arrangement is stunning. You'll discover that NOTHING is beyond the reach of HF's combined talents. This one features their low voices - Chance (baritone) and Tim (basso profondo.) Also unusual, this performance gives us 5-part harmonies. Usually, it's only 4-part...because Adam is busy replacing a whole percussion section and a few other instruments.

All right, young lady... I have to ask... How is it possible that you have, just in the last couple of days, managed to react to songs that might have come off my "best ever" playlist. Uncanny. Home Free (with your Brit buddies), Ren, Haley, Home Free again... dang! Okay, THIS song is just unreal. I LOVE Home Free. I have been subscribed sine the first song of theirs that I heard. I might be called a Home Fry, but I don't presume. In the hypothetical, if I could have a 10 song playlist, with only ONE song each from 10 different artists, and I could ONLY listen to THAT playlist for the rest of my like... I think this song would be my Home Free choice. That's a weird way of saying, "I think this is my favorite Home Free song." But it is SO hard to pick ONE favorite out so many choices! I also get a little teary sometimes listening to this. I'm a veteran, and I have deep respect for the warriors who are the subject here. The feelings and emotions runneth over when expressed through such incredible musical beauty. Great reaction! I'm glad I subscribed!

These guys got me through some dark days with their music and humor. Home Free was cranking out a fun new music video every week or two while they were off the road during the pandemic. As you go through their catalog, you'll see a lot of videos from that period where they were each in different locations with spouses/significant-others behind the cameras. These guys do have some more traditional Christmas music like "Do You Hear What I Hear", but for fun, I also suggest "Cold Hard Cash (For Christmas)", (co-written by Austin Brown) and "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". There's another fun one called "Full Of Cheer", but it's kind of the sequel to a non-Christmas song "Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget)" written by Tim Foust and I don't know if you have time to get to them all before Christmas. P.S. If you want to get more traditional songs from another acapella group, I highly suggest you watch Pentatonix "Mary Did You Know", "Little Drummer Boy", or their Grammy winning "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies". These are a good introduction to their original bass singer, Avi Kaplan, who has collaborated with Home Free.

Fun fact about Home Free. They tried for several years to get on Sing Off but never made it. Not until one of the producers suggested that they bill themselves as a COUNTRY acappella group. None of them wanted to do it except Austin, who finally talked them into it. And of course, they won that year. For any who do not believe this info, Chris Rupp has a series of videos about their formation and he talks about this with Tim and Austin.

Music can change you! When you have the opportunity to see them in concert, they will knock your socks off. Keep exploring these talented men. You will love their Christmas music, the solemn (Mary Did You Know) and the silly (Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer). The content Home Free has on KZitem is expansive. They also have recorded several albums. I hope that you will enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole 🕳️. I look forward to more of your reactions, and maybe more Home Fries. Have a great week!

Okay Redhead. Let's change it up with "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer." to lift the spirits. With Home Free you can bounce around and never know what you're going to pull out of the hat.

Well, this was new to me. A white guys a capella? One of those guys has to eat broken glass for breakfast. That was wonderful. They made it a saxon/scandinavian chant. Love from Norway.

Oh, you really went all in with this one! It’s such a special cover! It’s beautifully and tastefully done! I always get chills with those harmonies and that echo gets me every time I watch this one. I am looking forward to you continuing down the Home Free KZitem rabbit hole! There’s a great variety of genres they’ve covered. They also have 2 albums with mostly originals, and even the albums post Sing Off each have at least 2 originals. You definitely can’t make a bad choice with a Home Free song/video!

I loved that you didn't apologize for how this song made you feel! It makes me cry every single time. I think it's actually better than the original by Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler wrote the song about a soldier dying on the battlefield in the Falkland Islands war between the UK and Argentina, but later made it a tribute to fallen soldiers everywhere. I think the theme is "Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." My dad was a medic during WWII and survived the Normandy invasion at Utah Beach, and the Battle of the Bulge among many others. He never spoke of his experiences during the war. I saw you react to the crescendo that came right after Chance's solo. I knew it was coming and watched for it. It hit you just as it was supposed to. I truly love this arrangement!

Before I even reach the actual reaction, I suggest that you might go back and re-listen/edit your intro where the song is playing along with (over top of) your commentary. Just a thought. My reaction comments will come AFTER I hear the actual reaction. 😊

Wow What a great reaction. I'm a long time Home Free fan and Mark Knopfler fan (who wrote the song about the Falkland Island War) and I've seen lot's of reactions to them but yours was the moist touching and I thank you dearly and have subscribed.
