@SaeedReacts. Austin, the lead singer on this one, can do the harmonica sound too. In concert, they mash up this song with "Folsom Prison Blues". Adam starts the harmonica solo, but then Austin joins him, for a 'harmonica' duet. They also use live looping on this and on the "Sea Shanty Medley" because there are just too many parts they need to cover.

Tim Foust is the bass of the group. He can also sing tenor, he has a 5 octave range. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, performs the harmonica sound with his voice. We call it his nomonica. Austin Brown, the lead singer, is the high tenor and Rob Lundquist, the second singer is tenor. The fifth member,Adam Chance, (called Chance) is baritone/bass with a 4 octave range, and is the one performing the mouth harp.

"Man of Constant Sorrow" (also known as "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow") is a traditional American folk song first published by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titled "Farewell Song" in a songbook by Burnett dated to around 1913. A version recorded by Emry Arthur in 1928 gave the song its current titles.

That droning sound at the beginning, end and through most of the song is the sound of a jaw harp, also called juice harp or Jew's harp. The sound is made by Adam Chance, whose designated role is baritone (though he can handle both tenor and bass very well). He is in the back left when they are shown as a group in this video. He uses the Mongolian throat singing technique, but it is hard on his voice so they used and in concert use a looper to keep the sound going without him having to drone on. I have heard that the static crackle sound at the beginning is also a voice effect, from Rob, the guy in the overalls. This song was first published in the early 1900s, and recorded soon after. It seems to have been around for a while before that, but as with most folk songs, the details are lost. Many artists, primarily folk and folk-rock oriented, such as Bob Dylan have recorded versions. It was also central to the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou.

They're not in Kentucky, where they are singing this. None of them come from Kentucky, either. The song itself is ABOUT Kentucky, but Home Free filmed this in Alabama, which is where Adam Chance grew up. I believe he was already familiar with the place that they were given permission to use. I don't remember exactly how all of that happened, but...something like that. I DO know it's close to where his grandmother still lives. I've never heard of Peter Santinello, but I do know someone from Kentucky--a pastor named Jerimiah Johnson, who is a really great guy with a beautiful family. 😀 Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) is using only his hands and his mouth to make the HARMONICA sound. Home Fries usually call it the "no-monica." Austin Brown (the man in front with the lead, high-tenor, vocals) also does a "mean" "no-monica." When they do this song in concert (and, yes, I've been to one, and would REALLY like to go to another one...or two...or three...etc.), it's really fun to see BOTH of them play their "no-monicas" together. 😀 Tim Foust (on the porch by himself, when you mentioned that he might be a baritone) is actually a "basso-profundo." He can DO nearly every range above that, though. Adam Chance (the one who is doing the mouth-harp sound, is the group's "resident" baritone at this time. That used to be Chris Rupp, but Chance replaced him in 2016, when Chris decided to go out on his own (he has his own channel, which you might want to check, for some really GREAT reaction material). If you click my avatar, and then look at the "other 6 links" button, you'll find that I have created a "Home Free Vocal Ranges Chart," that is as updated as I can get it. It can be clicked on to make it larger, to see it more easily. The movie from which this song sprang, is called "O Brother, Where Art Thou." The WIKIPEDIA has a pretty accurate article about it, or you can finally find the information elsewhere, online, as well. Thank you for a great reaction to Home Free. NICELY DONE! 😀

Adam Rupp is extraordinary but he has not competed in (or won) any beatboxing competitions. I don’t even know how that rumor started. 💜💜💜

I was going to post the same. I have no idea how this incorrect rumor got started, either. A simple Google search will list the beatboxing champs, and Adam is not on the list. Adam Rupp is the heartbeat of HF and is good, but not a world champion.

Oh really. I read that in a comment on a video. When i was younger i use to listen to Rahzel who a really good beatboxer. He could sing and beatbox at the same time, which was mindblowing to me when i was 13 years old. Thanks for clarifying.

Great reactions. Liked, subscribed and went back to listen to previous ones. If you play it (home free) they (fans - home fries) will come, subscribe, comment and suggest and inform. BTW your English is very good, and as you do this I am sure it will be even better. Thank you.
