I used to make this for the kids when they were little! For their celery, too!! I'd put raisins on some of them and its called 'ants on a log'..lol

If you take it off of the heat and immediately whisk an egg yolk into it - it will become creamy and thicken it. It will not taste eggy. An egg yolk is a wonderful thing to thicken almost any sauce even if normally it would not have eggs in it. It adds body to a sauce as well as it will help some things not break.

Your hubby so9unds like mine!! LOL!! I refuse to buy cheezwhiz. It is like a gelatinous blob! I told him it is just a jar of chemicals LOL. I will try this recipe, only difference is mine will be made with old white cheddar, I don't buy any cheese that is coloured orange, mainly because when my granddaughter was living with me, we found out that she was allergic(went hyperactive) when she ate food colouring and that was in cheese, and so many other foods.
