Wow! Watching your videos is like being a kid in a candy store :) Wish you had some more demo footage, maybe a decibel meter? I've always found KZitem videos that try and represent the actual sound of the system to be completely pointless, but more empirical evidence is always good. Have you seen Interstellar? The scene where they enter the wormhole is one of my absolute favorite bits of demo material.
@Youthman

Thanks. Yes, Audio Demos are tricky. If you don’t do them people complain. If you do them, people say what’s the point since they aren’t really hearing what I’m hearing on my end. No I haven’t seen Interstellar but have heard about the wormhole scene. Hoping to start using my UMIK-1 and REW soon

For a long i also left that Dynamic volume OFF, but one day i tried it ON and the difference in sound was HUGE!! My home theater room is also my living room and it's quite difficult (because of it's shape) to make it sound right, so one day i just tried how would it sound if i put the Dynamic Volume ON. I put in Audussey settings like this: MultiEQ - flat / Dynamic EQ - on / Ref.Lev.Offset - 5db / Dynamic Volume - Light, and the change in sound was HUGE, so much more dynamic, much more clearer and richer sound. I don't know why so many people say it's better to leave it OFF, to my ears with those settings it sounds much better...not so sure is the sound now the best possible in "hi-fi" sense, but to my ears it sound good and isn't that what matters the most? ;D

Did you notice a few subwoofers not hitting as hard as others? I set my subwoofers up slighlty differently. I noticed whenever splitting the signal with splitters you lose 1/2 of the output when only using lfe. It didnt happen with all subwoofers but for most including SVS, klipsch, velodyne. To solve output issues make sure to use both left and right inputs. Including left and right out puts if your subwoofer has them. If not you will need 6 splitters for 4 subwoofers with only inputs.
@Youthman
6 жыл бұрын
I didn’t notice anything different with output but wasn’t measuring either. Just my ears. I’ll check with SVS to confirm about losing output if only using the LFE Input.

@thomasnam9460

When I first received a PB16 I only got half the volume when paired with a Velodyne subwoofer while only using lfe. It must be a common issue because i've had people asking me how i got all 4 sub to work with the same same amount of output. I'm curious to know what causes this to happen.
@Youthman
6 жыл бұрын
Here is the response I received from SVS Using both inputs at the subwoofer doubles the input voltage (compared to a single-ended connection). Doubling the input voltage makes the subwoofer play 6 dB louder (compared to a single-ended connection). The same effect can be created by simply turning up the subwoofer gain by 6 dB or by increasing the AVR sub channel level by 6 dB.
@thomasnam9460
6 жыл бұрын
Is that based on a single rca coming from the receiver? If so then having 2 subwoofers per channel with 1 rca would be losing -12db. That sounds about right based on my testing, but if your using standard audyssey settings it probably wont matter since it will adjust the bass.

Killer set up! I love home theaters. I have two Cerwin-Vega 15" towers and their 15" sub, XLS6C center and two bipolar Klipsch rears. I went with Yamaha for the AV receiver. For viewing I have a Mitsubishi WD 92-840 projection tv. The room is 16' wide by 20' long. I sit back about 13 feet from the screen which sits 24" from the wall. My wife hates sitting that close that's why she has her own home theater in her bedroom. When we go to the movies she sits all the way in the back and I sit near the middle rows. I'm going to pull the trigger on a 120" to 135" acoustic screen that will drop down in front of the television, and a 4K projector, problem is I have to cut through the back wall with the 135" screen because of the throw distance of the projector. I will probably wait till the 2019 projectors come out to see what they are offering.

Thanks Mark. I too prefer the middle of the theater and at home, my front row is 9’ from a 150” screen and absolutely love it. Wouldnt it be better to place each sub in one corner of the room? Like the svs recommendation on 4subs? Dunno what extra you get from placing them ontop of eachother. Its not like you need the extra decibel output.
@Youthman
6 жыл бұрын
Corner loading does provide boundary gain but so does stacking subs. You gain 6dB of volume by stacking a pair of subs so by stacking two pair, I gained 12dB in volume. This was simply having some fun for a week, I have since sent the dual SB16's back and have purchased the dual PB16's. For my setup, placing them in the corners won't work because that would mean having my mains and center directly touching each other which would reduce the massive sound stage that I have now.

Thanks for your various reviews on the pb16 and sb16. I had the dual klipsch 15’s you had and let them go a few years ago and trying to find something close to them I went with dual pb16 and my god, they can preasurize my theater room so much that my ear drums flex and svs had said j must be sitting in a peak and to move the speakers or plug a port. Anyhow, could you point me how you mounted your screen with the pivot ability - i have a 133 and think having access to the speakers behind without taking the screen dow. Would be useful and stewart had just told me they dont sell that type of hardware so i assume it is diy setup - hopefully you see this. Everytime i sale a piece of equipment to upgrade it looks like you receive and do a review on it lol (i.e. parasound 52, and your old klipsch 15’s - that are like 10+ years old with a passive 15 in the back. Anyhow let me know if you see this...

Why don't you try PSA's V3601 / V3611 instead of the S3601? It seems like you prefer the output advantage of a ported subwoofer for movies. The V3601 / V3611 also has two 18" drivers, but it's ported so it's likely you'll prefer it for movies.

Hey Youthman awesome channel and video. Question how are you setting up the Low pass filter on the subs while using audyessey? Ive read usually they want you to set it to the highest before running the setup?
@Youthman
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matt. I’m no Audyssey expert for sure. I have the crossover set to 80Hz in the Receiver and the sub cable going into the LFE Input in the sub which bypasses the sub’s internal crossover.
@Ferrari_1996
6 жыл бұрын
Matt Nakata Set the crossover dial on the sub to "LFE" and leave it there. After running Audyssey, make sure the speakers are set to "Small" rather than "Large" and feel free to play around with the crossover setting on the AVR (if you chose to do this, it's better to increase the crossover rather than decrease it. In my case, Audyssey set the fronts to "Large" which is not what you want and because of this, the crossover setting was too low)
@manoroid1
6 жыл бұрын
Im sorry im confused by crossover dial. I have a supercube 4000 and on the back i use the LFE input. All i have on the back of the sub are volume, Low passfilter and phase control. Would you mind looking up my sub on a search.
@Ferrari_1996
6 жыл бұрын
My bad, I assumed you have an SVS sub. I had a look at the manual for your subwoofer, and it seems like when you use the LFE input, the low-pass filter on the subwoofer is bypassed. Therefore, it shouldn't matter what the low-pass filter on the back of the sub is set to, however I would set it to the highest frequency just to be on the safe side. Here's the extract from the manual which tells you that the low-pass filter is bypassed when using the LFE input: i.imgur.com/R3MEaTC.png After running Audyssey, make sure the speakers are set to "small" and the crossover setting will determine the range of frequencies that your subwoofer will handle (to put it simply, the subwoofer will receive the frequencies at and below the crossover frequency). Which AVR do you have and what speakers are you using?

I auditioned those at Bjiorns, home of the audacious atmos auditions and though those subs are not used in their theater room, they are in a very large room. The woofer makes a lot of noise on the vented model, was not impressed. I have a sub that you would just fall in love with, and if you ever thought of changing it later, would be to maybe get really mad scientist like and get another, so you would have two KPT-1802-HLS YES, THOSE ARE KLIPSCH SUBS, FULLY HORN LOADED OUTPUT. I have to say, the most impressive I have heard ever in my 38 years of being around and literally in Audio gear and the biz. I had a world record shattering car in 87, 151 DB measured officially at Crazy Bennys, having been the employee could not compete. Point is, I know bass. This KPT-1802-HLS does not need to be EQ altered in your home, it sounds perfectly flat, extends below 20Hz to the point it can get scary. Yeah, other company claims, but this really does it. Like, for real. As in you never heard real bass once you heard this one. I thought I had. I was wrong, after 38 years, thought I knew real bass notes hahaha.
@Youthman

Hey what’s up Youthman I have a long question... sorry in advance for the length. Your video was the question that I had. I have an svs sb4000, like the sound but it wasn’t enough for me so I was looking to add a second sub thinking either the pb4000 since it’s ported. Never heard the ported because it seems dealers in my area only carry the sealed. I called svs with my idea & they said don’t mix the sb with the pb. So my other choice was the sb 16ultra to add to my sb 4000 Svs said that would work. So since you have mixed the sealed & the ported I wanted to know how it sounded because the pb4000 & sb16 are about the same price. If it sounds good with the setup you just did I’ll get the pb4000 if it didn’t I’ll get the sb16. Thanks again...
@Ferrari_1996
6 жыл бұрын
Lester Davis I wouldn't mixed sealed with ported. If you bought the sub from svs within a year ago, why not trade up for the PB4000? They'll credit you the full amount that you paid which you can put towards the pb
@lesterd6480

Ferrari1996HS thanks for the info but I bought from a dealer so I’d either have to sell what I have, go with the one the options mentioned above or bite the bullet & get another identical sub.

Great question. It’s going to be more difficult to blend a sealed and ported sub. Adding a second sub will add 6dB more output. If you stack them you will get 12dB more output.

Excellent video! I'm considering a similar setup with a AT screen in front of dual subs. I think ported would be theoretically better, and they certainly have better specs, but I'm concerned about the air from the ports physically moving the screen. Can you comment on if and how the screen reacts physically to the air movement from the PB16s when driven hard?
@Youthman
6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was my main concern with ported which is why SVS initially sent me the SB16’s. The PB16’s do cause the screen to move but myself and 6 others were only able to see it moving with the lights on.
@AaronPaetznick

I was considering inventing something where I might wrap the ports with some sort of AT speaker grille material to dampen the air movement, but maybe I won't need that? I guess we'll see. Very helpful thanks!

Aaron Paetznick Ok so I’m not a professional in the home theater enthusiast but I do car audio, blocking the port is not optimal as it will ruin the sound quality and cause whooshing, my advice would be to build a custom box and get it tuned down really low, like 20hz for those low low boomy spots in movies, if it’s a custom box you can have it be side ported and have the sub face you, the best placement is where the sub and port is facing an object to reflect off of like a wall, low frquencies arent affected by obstructions as the lows generally turn into pressure waves rather than sound waves , these home theater subs seem really expensive, you could have a custom box made tuned lower than these boys for lower reponse and get an 18” car Audio subwoofer with a lot of xmax to move more air and be louder while keeping reponse very tight with the tuning, hope I could bring some light goodluck sorry if I’m wrong on somethings.

Honestly, this was mainly for the photo. LOL. I just wanted to see what it would look like and sound like. Having ported and sealed playing at the same time isn't ideal. They sounded better by sealing the Dual PB16's which provided 4 sealed subs. In my previous setup, you saw that I had 4 Klipsch RSW-15's stacked. Stacked subs provides 6dB more gain so by stacking two pair of subs, it yielded a 12dB gain in output. So to answer your question, stacking subs is a real scenario that plenty of people have done.

best case you are looking at 2400 (ish) watts of power available if on a 120amp circuit. You may want to consider adding another 20 amp run for just the subwoofer part of your system. That way they can have plenty of power to pull from when needed. Of course a 5000 watt sub amp is never pulling probably more than 1/10th of that power. Get a "kill a watt" meter, plug into the wall then pick a piece of equipment to monitor in real time how much power is really being consumed. It is a fun tool to use. www.p3international.com/products/p4400.html sorry for the random info but I hope you find it helpful! you have a FANTASTIC looking setup! So I guess PB16's is much better since it can dig below 20 hz and not distort as the SB16's. It will be great if you can compare PSA S7201 someday :) Also if possible - mid-high range speakers - you need the full spectrum to enjoy a high quality sound.

I stacked them only for a short period of time mainly for fun and for a cool photo. In general, it’s not ideal mixing ported and sealed subs. I doubt I will ever review the S7201. The sub is ridiculously expensive to ship. Yes it would be good exposure for PSA but that would be up to Tom whether or not it would be worth it as there is a very small percentage of people that would actually buy one for their setup. What mid-high speakers would you like for me to consider. I’m not sure what you mean by “you need the full spectrum to enjoy a high quality sound”.

Hi there, thanks for the reply :) By "full spectrum" I meant speakers that cover middle and high range - 300 hz - 35 khz with a nice output and enough power so the sound will be more balanced and not mostly bass/high with light middle. Hopefully more clear now :) And another idea if you can consider - whist you present a new item or already tested another - if possible to make a chart, or a score board how the product stack against other products, since you can physically test them as well and it will be much more accurate comparison, than just check their specs on the internet. I am new to this channel and so far I enjoy it, and definitely will gather the needed info when I go sopping for a sub. Keep up the good work! Cheers :)

You don’t need a speaker to reproduce up to 35Hz as the human ear can only hear up to 20KHz and gets lower with age.

I can assure you my home theater is able to reproduce the full spectrum from super low lows to detailed midrange and crystal clear highs.

Of that I have no doubt :) I was asking if you can consider testing such speakers like the subs and let us know which sound the best.
