No, it doesn't represent them at all lmao. Homelander isn't rejected or persecuted, he's an insanely powerful (both physically and socially) delulu sociopath having an emotional breakdown and blaming everyone else for expecting accountability from him. Remember that the prelude to his little tantrum was someone making fun of him having dated a literal nazi. He knew she was a nazi and simply didn't give a shit, and he's too narcissistic to accept that he might've done anything wrong. And this isn't just me being pedantic. This is the _entire point_ of the scene. The scene is *making fun* of people who try to spin criticism as them being "persecuted" and "silenced" for being in a position of power and privilege.

Homelander is a good examination of people who believe (or need to believe) that being strong or powerful makes you essentially a good person, makes you “better” than everyone. Because despite all his strength, Homelander has the emotional and intellectual capacity of a gerbil. And anyone who points this out is “persecuting him for his strength” because they won’t value what he needs them to value.

Yeah, the point of this scene is that Homelander is delusional. His abilities don't make him an inherently better person, if anything having the abilities he has isolated him to the point where he has no self-control, a need for outside reassurance and a god-complex all at the same. Take away the parts of Homelander that were made in a lab and you'll find an out-of-control manchild. He's not a hero and he's definitely not better. He says that out loud because deep down he's not sure if it's true and he desperately wants to believe that it is

I almost wonder if they played with the audiences foreknowledge of the Season 2 scene, to give this scene some of that effect. Someone else mentioned that in the final shot of this scene we see it from behind his shoulder, and the audience isn't visible, like he's yelling into the void.

To some extent not everything he's saying is inherently wrong. Is he smarter than then them, probably not, is he stronger, oh hell yes. Do they need him to save them...kind of,with his powers he can solve countless issues in secodns that would take people hours if not days to resolve. And yeah, he has been essentially controlled his whole life, hell the reason he's so unstable is precisely because Vought made him simply to be a product. Imagine being bred to do one thing, never having any free will, a real life and being under constant media scrutiny where even saying the wrong word results in you being hated by millions. No person could handle that kind of crap all their life, no matter how much they might think they could. Homelander is truly a product of his messed up life, and any character, Starlight, Maeve, Hughie, MM, Billy ALL OF THEM would've end up the exact same way as him. I truly pity the guy.
@ass_jay

@alt alt Homelander has a savior complex and nobody needs him. If his head exploded the sun would still rise the next day the same way it does in our real world. There's a certain allegory in him saying "only I" can do this or that for you. It's been used by leaders today just as it was Pharaoh's and Emperors and religious figures and it's never true.
@boshirahmed
2 жыл бұрын
@alt alt Edgar said he can make a thousand like him anytime they want, they have super hero baby factories. Homelander is actually the least violent from the test babies made in the lab. If he was truly evil he would not need to be loved etc. So makes the character interesting and unpredictable. Vought are the evil ones including all the supes, they are part of the Vought conspiracy. The evil in the show is fame and what people would do to stay silent.
