Technically, his portrayal was absolutely nothing like the original character. In that sense, he missed the mark by a mile. Of course, this version of Soldier Boy was a billion times better than the one in the comic, so in that sense, he knocked it out of the park. Honestly, it's very rare that an adaptation changes so much about the original and still is enjoyable on its own merits. The Boys is in a very small clubhouse on that accord.

I think you totally missed the point. The point was that Soldier Boy came to terms with the fact that his dad was right - he was a pretentious, spoiled asshole and a disappointment. SB realized that his son had, like in HL's own words, become him. To see his son turn out exactly the same as him was the ultimate disappointment. All while not wanting Homelander to win in any manner and actually not minding if Soldier boy gets done what he has to even at the cost of a kid. Yeah instead of soldier boy accepting what homelander said and trying to comfort him, he reinforces it and basically ensures that he will always be as bad as him, instead of helping him. People make such retarded arguments about this too, saying that "he saw bad qualities in him so he knew he didn't deserve to be helped" lol obviously he has bad qualities, helping him and accepting him as a son would have definitely given a chance to have homelander become a person who can care for others and isn't constantly insecure and needing to feel love, because he would have gotten what he needed deep down, the love of a parent.

What I love about this scene is how everyone kept their word. Soldier Boy held his end of his bargain with Butcher but unfortunately, Butcher also held on to his promise to Becca. I interpret the look they had with Maeve as “we may be ready to die but we’re not total assholes to involve an innocent child.” It solidified him as a murderous psycho who is still fighting to keep his humanity by protecting those he cares about(Hughie and Ryan). Plus, it was also a moment of conviction for Queen Maeve that they might not need Soldier Boy anymore as they think they’re already brave enough to do it on their own. SB has been treated bad tho. He just tried to do what they planned. He informed the boys about being HL father, while he could have just decided it later if betraying Butcher or not. He kept his word and he is not a world menace as HL is. I find it stupid that they preferred fighting him rather than joining Maeve in killing HL. SB is just a chilling idiot, way less dangerous than HL. They filled this episode with "Soldier Boy Bad" dialogues just to make you consider it right that they choose to fight him, while it was more rational to work with him 'til the end. They should have made you fear Soldier Boy more, giving him more screen time (introducing him earlier), but actually he does very little "bad", and most of killing where just vengeance or explosions he didn't choose to do. I sympathized more with SB rather than the boys. Also, both HL and Ryan will probably kill more and more people. SB was a total waste occasion to kill HL. Imo Butcher could have said "Don't kill your grandson. You can still raise him. Just kill HL." instead of fight him back that way. SB probably would accept that. Only after the death of HL, Butcher would have decided to fight SB to not let him stay with Ryan etc.

@@SpaceboundJoker they didn’t do it to save each other, they did it to protect Ryan. Soldier boy wanted to kill homelander and didn’t care if Ryan was there and died in the crossfire. Homelander wanted to protect him because he’s his son and butcher protected him because he promised his wife that he’d protect her son before she died. Not gay just keeping promises

Ryan will probably end up killing homelander like noir in comic Think about this for second. Homelander gave that speech to him about killing his most loved things. He zapped tf outta soldier boy. Partly responsible for his mother death. (Beccas sweet revenge). And he willingly went with homelander. To almost keep an eye on him. Like somebody else? Shows been switching characters around anyway And no one said it would happen soon but it will. He’s a homegrown clone.

@@2whitecups941 Homelander is not Soldier Boy. He is also just a kid in grown-up adults body. SB said he was disappointed in him because he cried like a "pussy" and needed attention just like girls do. In the last episode it's certainly clear that the show is just messing around with "Men masculinity" thing, which is popular last time. Many families have fucked up relationships between dads and sons when fathers think their child is "pussy" because he cries and etc. I don't like any of that. Men are not robots and not "pussy-girls".

Soldier Boy was in pain knowing he was about to kill his dream of raising his own son and grandson but he knew how fucked up homelander is being an experiment of vought and Ryan was about to become even worst if raise by homelander. Soldier boy knows betrayal and wouldn't break a deal to Butcher after saving him and helped him kill his former friends that are traitors to him. Sadly soldier boy now gets betrayed again by Butcher and it was all PTSD again for Soldier Boy.
