What is especially interesting is that Victoria is one of the only people who isn't intimidated by Homelander. Instead of getting frustrated by that fact, it makes him respect her more, which means that he actually puts effort into trying to persuade her. He correctly guesses that Victoria has the same kind of superiority complex he does, which is why he appeals to her as a fellow supe. Every time Homelander and Victoria interact, you can see him bringing her closer and closer to his viewpoint.

Sage wasn't realizing that Homelander was just as good as her, she was surprised that he was going off script. As Vickie points out, the army will turn on her if she outs herself. She gains nothing by outing herself and threatens everything. Homelander only thinks he's on Sage's level.

His interactions with Victoria show just how charismatic and persuasive Homelander can be when he puts his mind to it. He respects the way that Vic isn't afraid of him, and quickly realizes that she actually has a lot in common with him. Like Homelander, Victoria's whole personality has been formed by how monstrously powerful she is. Like Homelander she had a traumatic childhood and a toxic relationship with an adoptive parent (Vogelbaum and Edgar respectively) that cared for them on some level, but ultimately saw them as a tool. And now, like Homelander, Victoria's actions are simultaneously dictated by her craving for ever more power, *and* some kind of reason to justify that instinctive urge to dominate. Homelander offers her an easy answer: shared membership in a natural elite, who have to stand with each other against the treacherous, inferior masses who want to destroy them out of jealousy. The brilliant part is that Homelander uses the language of the progressive political movement that Victoria has spent most of her adult life working in. He frames supes as being a persecuted class, invokes the notion of internalized bigotry by saying Edgar brainwashed Vic into hating herself, and uses terms like "in the closet" to plant the idea that Vic has a duty to her community to be proud of who she is. And, of course, Homelander quickly deduces that Victoria cares a lot for her daughter, and makes common ground with her on that. The only two people that Homelander is ever really effective at persuading (instead of bullying) are Ryan and Victoria. It goes to show that the reason he acts like a sociopathic bully to most people isn't because he can't be persuasive, he just doesn't see any need to with people who aren't worth the effort.

For the first two, they were very intent on poking at both sides and referencing corruption/fear tactics/demographic appeal in general. The first episode even mentions that congress is stacked on both sides in favor of supers. Watching the third season felt weird because the ideas changed from, "People in power bad" to "Right wing people are violent and racist and America/white people are bad." Which just felt nasty to watch and listen to. The sad part is that there are still so many good parts about the show, the character writing has always been extremely strong and still is.
