We'll let you try and guess the age of Marc Palmer but what is most important is that his personal circumstances and journey have led him on the streets of the midlands in UK without a home, and without any contact with his family.
Newsivity News Producer Mo Seedat bumped into him by chance and we decided to help tell his story, whilst also showcase his incredible artistic and creative talent.
Homelessness in the UK is a clear and quite visible problem, and it has been for some time. What often gets ignored is each and every individual story to how the person ended up sleeping rough or on the streets is an insight into where issues lie in our public systems, and also in our society as a whole.
The UK is not a third world country, and the expectation would be that each and every UK citizen would at least have the basic means to build from in order to live a life and develop from this.
Marc Palmer’s experience isn’t unique, but it does have some aspects that make him an ideal case study for wider services and us all as individuals to see how we may be able to help each other when in need.
What particularly stands out when you meet Marc, is his determination and natural fighting spirit to help himself and to better his life.
“I create my drawings because it has become like therapy for me to forget the bad things and focus on the positive and what may be possible around the corner for me. I once saw a counsellor who told me that creativity is a great outlet to deal with certain emotions when they arise, and this has stuck with me since!” he said.
