I'm in the process of making one. I started with the motorcycle tire idea, but didn't think the blade would want to stay on. Nice job!

The blade stays securely in place. Tires must be set to the correct line. The blade is easy to change, just the pressure off the tires, dull blade off and the new blade in place and the pressures of the tires, the blade goes all the way at the same point

I love how you used them wheels and went electric. I had a couple electric motors but had to sell them. Just started the welding on my mill and will post the video of that with the parts and concept videos already posted. I am using go-cart parts on my first sawmill project. I hope it cuts as good as yours does. Thanks for posting your video, everything I can find helps me with mine.

I like how you used motorcycle wheels. Clever design. I built one many years ago, only I used trailer wheels. These are a lot of fun to run.

Very nice. I need to make a couple more saw heads to build a belt fed re saw. Also one just to square up short cants. I had planned to use trailer tires n wheels. It has never dawned on me to use motorcycle rims n rubber. They would have to be 100 times better than trailer tires. Other than getting on a street bike that has a flat spot ground in tire most bikes ride smooth. My regular mill is a Norwood 2000. Can't afford a set of there pulley wheel. Thank You again for the Kool idea.

I'm not sure if anyone can help me but I'm trying to build a band saw and I have a couple questions. 1 I need to know if I need to get pulley wheels with a wedge for the blade to sit in or can I just get a wheel? 2 if I do just use a wheel am I going to need a tensioner? And lastly I am think about using a 10hp motor would that work? Thankyou

Oh boy, you are my new DIY hero! I wanna build a belt sander how do you make sure saw band wont come out or slip out?
@lironmtnranch4765
3 жыл бұрын
A flat leather belt (like in those used in dangerous AF looking 19th century factories) or bandsaw pulley is crowned in the middle. The belt or sawblade naturally rides up and centers itself on the largest pulley diameter. This makes tires a good cheap trick, provided the tread ribs in the center are wider than the blade.
@lironmtnranch4765

For a belt sander you'll need flat metal drums. For small sanders check out timing belt idler pullies. (Toyota/Lexus V6 has a nice fat one.) Wider and larger diameter metal drums on axles are harder to find. Maybe an exercise treadmill to start with?

why keep the tires on? doesn't the curve of the tires increase the chance that the blade will slide off, when without the tires there is a nice grove for the blade to sit in
@chefjosh77

nope, crown pulley
@DieselRamcharger
10 жыл бұрын
Frogking9 the crown is what keeps the blade running true. oddly enough. a flat pulley the blade would come off a groove pulley would wear on the cutting edge of the blade.
@AKAtheA
10 жыл бұрын
You might think it's weird, but once it gets up to speed, the centrifugal force will keep the band at the largest diameter, which happens to be the center. A lot of professionally made bandsaws (or anything that uses flat belts) have slightly concave wheels to utilise this effect... A groove will cause the blade to eat the wheel (or damage the blade).

@jimmy5F

Without writing a whole chapter, it's not just centrifugal force that is involved; the increase in tension at the high point of the wheel makes the blade seek the center. When centred, the tension is equal on both edges, and blades seem to like that.
