I like the fourth one (under the wheel stand) as it has potential provided it has an additional built-in support once you reach the desired height. Built correctly by a reputable manufacturer certainly will have an appeal.
@andrewstones2921
4 жыл бұрын
Whatever sort of jack you use, you need a secondary support for safety reasons. The jacks that use a bottle jack and a lever to increase the height are fine so long as the bottle jack is rated for twice what you would normally use to jack the same car.. and again use some support once it's up there. I have been stuck under a car and it was a very scary experience.. luckily no real injury, but mega scary.

Interesting stuff that was obviously fun to make, but I just use a floor jack and old (aluminum preferred for light weight) rims sometimes nested in larger old rims it I;m working on a truck.. Rims are so much better than jack stands and ramps I gave mine away in the mid-2000s. They don't tip, they don't crush, and they work on earth and sand (demonstrated by many thousands of cars stored on rims in u-pull-it salvage yards.

It is always so nice to see people saving money while making home made devices. They all have more money left over to pay for life insurance to support their loved ones when something goes wrong. That is considering that the insurance company does not refuse to pay after investigating in such cases.

A fool and his money are soon parted, as you well know. How do you justify sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle filled with explosive fuel just below your feet, surrounded by high explosive azide air bag propellant, and cascading down the street encased in a steel and glass cage with tremendous momentum just feet away from other similarly explosive filled high velocity chunks of metal coming toward you? I wonder how many people who have never attempted to repair a car will cause horrible accidents because they drive their car until the wheels fly off because they are obliviously ignorant and utterly dependent on paying someone else to tell them what to do. Let us see what the actuarial tables say.

No way. None of these solutions (and some look excellent) have any redundancy in the event of failure. When I am under a car, I do not question *if* something is going to fail--I simply assume it will. I do not even trust jack stands alone. I place a tire with blocking, etc. along with the original jack in a favorable place. Murphy's law is a crushing experience in these contexts.

last one reminds me of when and how i will never jack a car on a rough surface again. that jack doesnt even have wheels and has a mighty arc to its lift. the jack isnt going to slide any further under the car... the jack is going to slip accross the contact patch of the car. that's when bad things happen. trust me.

I see so many uneducated comments on here. Yes, safety is a concern, and yes, the methodology of these jacks are questionable and need refinement; but a jack is just a simple machine of a lever, and making a lever is easy. If it works, it works. There's not really any inherent safety issues, other than tipping a vehicle. Just keep in mind there are worse methods of making a jack. And most of these seem to be purpose built, except the first one which is literally just a homemade floor jack.

These comments make me laugh. Would you trust a Snap-on jack? That's about as nice and expensive as they get. And yet, you should literally never, ever get under a car supported only by a jack--any jack. Who gives a flying rats behind how the car is lifted, it's the supporting that matters. That and that only. You feel good by hating on people trying to come up with a creative way to lift a car higher than most jacks can go because it looks sketchy? The scariest accidents in the world usually happen by misunderstanding things that look safe. The best, most robust, powerful jack in the world can be accidentally loosened and drop immediately. Jack stands, locking supports, a gantry crane, all much better ideas than getting under a car supported by a jack.

That first one looks like a first time welder laid those beads. The way that contraption was bowed down makes me think the strength is not there. I’ve been working on cars professionally for over 30 years and all of these are what I would call a neat concept but I wouldn’t feel safe under most of them. That contraption with the chain hoist looks scary bad and the one at the very end looks like if you tried it on any kind of an incline the vehicle would be prone to slipping off but I’d probably trust that more than the piece of crap scissor jack that most cars are equipped with for an emergency tire change.

Most of these look a little sketchy, except for the next to the last one where the tires sit on platforms. It can be raised to two levels. I like the way it auto locks and would like to see how that works. In any event that looks much safer than jack stands and leaves the underside completely unobstructed. That would be great for removing transmission, oil changes steering repair and so on. Easy to build, that one has some potential.

The rail should add on around so it won’t roll over off, it need to be little more wide so it don’t be too much wobble when work on vehicle plus have some more support from bottom. Other video are not so great. Second is more dangerous than other cuz it a heavy vehicle just enough to break the cable plus it can causes engine and transmission some issue by been lift on two wheel. It was very stupid and unthinkable. I often use jack stand when I work on my vehicle plus using two post lift or ramp lift.
