I'm getting in there pretty late in the conversation, but most hardware stores sell what is called a "rubber well nut". They come in many different diameters and basically there is a screw down the center of a piece of rubber plug with a shoulder on the screw side. The screw is threaded into a brass female thread that's molded into the rubber at the base of the well nut. With the well nut inserted semi-snugly into the reservoir access hole, tightening the screw mushrooms the internal part of the well nut so as to seal the hole. Visualize it as a temporary rubber pop rivet......lol. I am familiar with these rascals, as having done my share of canoe and kayak outfitting for many years. Whitewater kayak companies would use the well nuts paired with stainless steel machine screws to hold interior outfitting in the kayak so the paddler can fit snugly in the boat so as to be able to control boat leans and assist in rolling the kayak back upright when a capsize occurs. They don't swell up to fill gaps as much as they simply provide an internal sealing system that allows repeated installation of different sized plastic shapes (for different sized legs) allowing thighs and knees to help control the boat. The well nuts rarely run more than $2-3 and it's a permanent fix and making me wonder why the manufacturers don't use them in the first place if the replacements are $10 . I didn't see an option for posting photos, so I guess folks will have to just run down to the hardware store and see for themselves. I enjoyed your videos and thank you for the refresher course on bottle jack maintenance.

... um, yeah, I forgot to say that I bought some "plugs" that were supposed to be for my particular unit. I bled the system and put the plug in, gave it a pump, ... and the DAMN THING SHOT OUT LIKE A BB and hit me in the forehead. My wife asked if I was converting. Just a fair warning to those that are having the same issue.

Haven't tried this, but if you use a bolt that is slightly longer than the piece of tubing you might be able to mash the end over with a hammer enough to help to retain it.

You should be able to get the tubing at any automotive store. Ask for fuel line, it comes in a lot of sizes so measure your hole and then measure the tubing they have, the size they give you is the inside diameter and of course you care about the outside diameter. Good luck!

So you're saying the screw cuts it's own thread in the hole of the cylinder wall ? Great idea Just a piece of inner tube with a hole in it would work, too, if you don't have an O ring And if you want more threads to retain the screw than you have in the wall of the cylinder, weld or JB weld a nut centered on the hole
