YES, it is possible to build a lathe just from the items already in your shop... well in my shop! all of the materials, motor, bearings etc. were found in my shop, and the wood was all left over scrap pieces, so i didn't have to purchase anything to build this lathe. that is why i am referring to it as my "free lathe" .
even though all of the items i used have value and all of them were purchased at one time or another, they all had other lives and were currently not in use, collecting dust or destined to a life on uncertainty.... except for the belt i took off of my drill press, i was already using that... but still, all free materials
this video is a re-edit of my original homemade lathe series and compilation video... the entire series is over an hour long as is the compilation video. this video is a quick start to finish of my improvised lathe... yes the lathe was completely improvised , no plans at all.
