Brilliant. This not only detects metal but heat sources also. Perfect then, for finding ideal spots for geothermal power stations.

I made a simple one using a two transistor oscillator with a 5 inch coil of 3/8 inch copper on the head. And in the box was another oscillator and mixer to the phones. The coax fed power to the head, and brought the signal back up to the head. It is a very simple looking device, but it worked fairly well. It had a flaw however as it seemed to be mainly for iron and especially for aluminum. Gold gave a weak and soft response.

I realize that this is an older video, but if you are still doing these kind of projects, you might want to try building the Russian PIRAT pulse induction detector. Mine detects coins at 8 to 9 inches, and bigger stuff much deeper. It's not good for trashy areas though. Just the nature of the beast. I may have to see about building one of these as well, if I can get more depth out of it. Good video. Rekindled my interest.

Echoing Uncle Doug's comment... but I am interested in knowing/understanding (to a small degree), what is it that Minelab, GB2, etc., companies do to their products allowing them to charge 7G and more? @@electronicsNmore i noticed that the 18ohm r from the speaker heats up when i apply more voltage. With dc the transmit coil gets about 13VAC. I been watching detector mods in Australia, he modifies minelab and other detectors! He says the multiple strand ultra fine multiple strand enameled wire Is the best, picks up a lot less noise, making them much more sensitive! Would it be possible to use an adjustable frequency driver say, ,16khz for one setting and 60 khz for another , I'm not concerned about current draw. If it used a batter fast as a drill. And required a 20 ah 4s battery to power it for ,8hrs. As long as it performed very well I'm expecting alot, I'd like it to find gold about 0.25,,mm cubed maybe smaller, seems we could build detectors by now that can find gold dust 36" deep from a drone! (The government probably can!) If nothing else hit the ground with something like a magnetron, to rattle the gold atoms. And use something to pick up that frequency, and ignore the magnetron, ,(,,or whatever)' I also have many ideas for pickup coils maybe a rhoden , maybe two coils, DD coils made from multiple small coils. The wire enameled 40 gauge with about 18 -24 strands wrapped around a ,,m6 nylon tube, forming the coil , or serpentine coils zigging around 1" pieces of PVC.. with s ,1" gap between them on a 1/8" plastic sheet, plexiglass maybe, one coil zigging the other zagging around the ,1" bits of ,1" PVC. With the wire triste around a ,1 mm nylon core. Possibly braided around it. If possible to do by hand and group about 3-4 of these wires to make a coil with them twisted around each other and glued, heat shrink in place , use silicone adhesive, or rubbery glue. So it's still flexible. There is dozens of ideas for coils also coils with a ton of wire, use aboutv100 strands of about 34-40 gauge wire requiring about 60 turns to get the resistance down use a pound or more of copper to make s 4.5"-6" coil like the size of 6 gauge battery cable wrapped into a coil and also try pancake coils and half sphere coils! The prospectors like small coils to hunt gold , I'd want to build a 24" coil and a 4"-6" coil maybe a concentric coil or coils, a 24", 18" 12" and ,6" with their functions alternating pulse coil in center followed by a receiver then a pulse coil and outer receiver coil. Then finally a 2",x 6" pulse coil followed by a 3.5" x 7" receiver. Using, 1/4"- 3/8" nylon tube to spiral the tiny wire around! Glue in place run the wire around at about 45° then a second layer alternating the direction it crosses, then solder each wire to a shielded 18 gauge wire to the control board! A 24",pancake receiver coil, surrounded by a 26" pulse coil could make put a 2" parallel pulse coil in the center. And what about small dishes with pulse coils in the center and receivers around the edge or vise versa! Could a dish help concentrate the signal??? Too many questions, possibly a few test could answer them all! But more copper, should find more gold! If nothing else build a jig with about 50-65 small coils of wire and 30 spools of thread to space the wires from each other. Drill holes in a cutting board! With each wire and thread coming out its own hole then twist the wire and thread together as it comes out the board, also have a center hole for nylon tubing. With some modification it can braid the wire around the tubing! The stuff used in auto upholstery could work! It would look like the ground / shield wire on a coal axial cable only each strand is enameled! Maybe it can build a detector capable of finding ,2-3 specks of gold dust at 12" and 6 gram nuggets at 2-3"yards, this would be awesome,!! Is it possible,?? Great ol video, sorry to ramble, I was up all night!b have an awesome day!!

That's a good thing as far as it's usefulness in former war zones goes, but its response to gold however seems to be entirely in your mind and only imaginary (24:30)
