Part 9 of the Boat build is all about closing off the bow to create a cavity for flotation foam. for this boat i am using readily available materials which in this case includes insulation foam in a can. honestly the results were better than i expected!
the biggest part of this build is scribing the plywood to fit the location. with the compound bends and constant shifting, it makes it a challenge to get the parts to fit... but as you can see from the video, not impossible.
i have no doubt that the "proper" flotation foam would have been easier to use but i am happy with the results even though they are less than perfect.
the two experiments i attempted with this part of the build:
1. the PL Premium in the fillets
2. house insulation foam in the bow cavity
went surprisingly well... after all the entire reason for this boat build is EXPERIMENTATION and Learning, and i feel that that it is going well in that regard.
is it the MOST perfect boat, not at all, but it is MY boat!
