This is such a versatile recipe that I don’t know how you can give it a name. It doesn’t have any Mexican spices, but I would still be happy loading that into taco shells with fresh lettuce. Or it could be spiced up to make it more suitable for tacos. Personally, I wouldn’t bother adding to it. I also thought it would be pretty good rolled up into a burrito with some refried beans. I don’t own a spiralizer yet, but I would be as happy to have some of this over a spiral zucchini or even eggplant. Spice it up with some curry, and I just hope you have a good source for some tandoori bread.

Well, I can’t begin to tell u how great this sloppy jo is. I had to use beef stew meat because I already had the meat canned and no ground turkey, but everything else was exactly as you wrote the recipe. Let me just say, I had it for breakfast, too, lol... Thanks a million, Louise. The fire roasted tomatoes, along with the apple cider vinegar took it over the top! You’re a spectacular culinary genius, but you already have to know that! Love and blessings...jo

I will definitely be trying this. I used the steam function the other day and I was positive I had it on VENT. However, it still sealed (the button popped up) and it said "BROIL" when it got up to pressure. It was weird. Will try that again. In the meantime, what do you use to make such nice diced onions and green peppers? I have the chopper where you punch it down until you it looks good but I don't get those perfect squares I see you have. Thanks for doing these videos! I love how you explain everything like you are thinking out loud!
@TheSaltedPepper
4 жыл бұрын
I am thinking out loud! LOL LOL I just dice my vegetables with a knife. You probably won't get perfect squares with a chopper, but who cares! If it works for you, do it. As far as the steaming goes, as long as the vent is open it's okay if the red button pops up. It usually does and then it will depress again. That "broil" message is odd, keep an eye on that because that is a new one.

I've made the Turkey-Apple Sloppy Joes on the stove top and I was wondering if any adjustments would be needed to make it in the Foodi. This recipe seems similar, but uses more vinegar, sugar and worcestershire sauce (1/3 C. vs 1/4 cup and 2 TBSP vs 1). Also, would you double all of the ingredients to make a double batch? For anyone who hasn't tried the Turkey-Apple version it is absolutely delicious!!!
@TheSaltedPepper
5 жыл бұрын
I'm going to see if there is a quicker way to make the turkey apple sloppy joes in the Foodi, but for now, I would just use the sear/saute function to make them and no other changes are needed. This is a very similar recipe, just with beef and the increases you mentioned. I increased the sugar to make up for the sweetness in the apples and I can't remember why I made the other changes, but they were based on recipe testing for sure. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the Turkey Apple Sloppy Joes, they are my favorite for sure!

Thank you so much! Some things do fly around! LOL These buns didn't though, or at least not that I could tell. I hope you enjoy the recipe! The steam function is one of my favorite things about the Foodi. I can reheat from cold or frozen without overcooking or drying out the food. LOVE IT! Plus, I made the best steamed buns with it! The Foodi is exciting with all the features. I sound like a commercial and I don't get paid by them either! LOL

Yes I think it tastes good. But it’s not being eaten till tomorrow. It’s Not a dish that is eaten here in Oz but I grew up in the USA so my kids were given Sloppy Joes. My son is coming with two grandies for a couple of days. He wanted Sloppy Joes and Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Both from my upbringing as starting my life as English, years in the states and now 45 years in Australia, I am now 76 but loving new ways of cooking via my Ninja!

all of my written recipes are either on my website or in the video description when you click the "show more" tab. I copied and pasted it for you: 1lb of ground turkey or lean ground beef 1 cup of diced onions 1 tsp sea salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp minced garlic (about 2 cloves) 1 cup of diced green pepper 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar 2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce 1 (14.5 oz) can of Fire Roasted Tomatoes 1/3 cup tomato paste 1/3 cup brown sugar Turn the saute on high and add 1 Tablespoon of olive oil if using ground turkey. Add turkey, onions, green pepper and seasonings. Saute turkey or ground beef on high saute in the Ninja Foodi for a few minutes, breaking up the meat into bite size pieces. Add garlic. Saute a few more minutes, then add the vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and fire roasted tomatoes. Put the pressure lid on and set the valve to vent. Set the steam function for 5 minutes. When the time is up, add tomato paste and brown sugar. Turn the Saute function and slightly reduce the sloppy joes. If toasting your buns, add in rack and set the AC function to 390 and toast bun. Serve and Enjoy!
