you should consider putting a winch on the other end of the pool, with a cable that can be clipped to the side with the reel

What are the two metal flanges you have screwed to the pole on each end...I assume to keep the pool from drifting. Anyway, where did you find them? I'm thinking of doing something similar but with 3" sch. 40 PVC pipe.

you could have just drilled a hole in the wood slightly bigger than the pipe od and just used the wood as a bearing surface, Maybe a 20-foot 2x4 could be used instead of steel tube? Drill the ends and insert 1/2 pipe for the bearing journals.

Wow that's freaking genius MacGyver good work dude you could probably build those and sell them to people it's amazing I don't know how much that cost you but man I have a above ground pool 15 ft piece of crap I'm struggling to get a regular tarp on there and off there so I might do something like this is a cool idea don't know if it's possible it's a Summer Waves 15 by 33 inch deep pool something like that would be possible but for your pool that looks amazing how much did that cost you

We have an above ground oval pool, 18x33, with a deck on two sides. Any ideas for us? I am 64 yrs old and the pool cover is getting heavy for me to roll up by hand and pull up onto the deck. Need a new cover this year and would like to have some kind of a reel. Some people say the pool cover should cover the whole area of the pool and others say it could be smaller. Do you think that matters?

a pool cover can be a peace of plastic, the sun heats it better , use netting to keep depre out it light weight , u can use a tight rope to thread threw the netting , netting is 29. bucks , next year i am goign to construct a roof over mine , so i can just pull from roof open in sun i am 63 next yr

You really need to show how you constructed the bearing ends using the roller blade wheels. Is there a third unseen wheel beneath the pipe on each side, or what actally bears the weight? What is the wall thickness of the pipe? How much does it weigh? Do you think it could be accomplished connecting two heavy-walled aluminum pipes in the middle? Thanks, its a great idea.
@petergardner7454

there are 4 wheels on each side, 3/8" aluminum rod for axels hold the weight. the pipe is 1/8" thick, no idea how much the whole thing weights
