Great job of a excellent idea. Thanks for the video for a future project for me.

Nice idea, but your grinding wheel is running way too fast. You should be able to reduce the speed to about 90 rpm.

Do you know what the wheel was designed for and the recommended speed range? I don’t either. But I have used grinding wheels for better than sixty years, and have never found one ( other than the water wheel on a Makita wet sharpening tool, and this is not a water wheel, it’s being cooled and cleaned by water). Cheers! 😂

@horatiohornblower868, I agree that a low speed wet grinder would be nice. But how would you go about getting that motor - which is an integral part of the [water proof] garbage disposal unit - to spin that slowly? Yes, you could use a different motor and/or a gear box to build a slower wet grinder. But that would be a completely different device than this one. My only concern with this build would be the possibility that it might fling water droplets around the shop. ...I can't tell for sure from the camera angle, but it looks like the surface of the wheel sits slightly below the top of the body?? Hopefully, that captures most of the water coming off of the wheel.

Very nice and compact unit. I'd suggest putting a SCR on it to reduce the rpm. A simple cheap one from the Chinaman would do. ;)
