As my mom always said, “No good deed goes unpunished!” Great job! Much cleaner and safer!

What I noticed right off the bat, the bricks needed new grouting before you started. Great s job!

Exactly right. You can see where I didn't wash yet that much of the grout is already gone. She probably didn't even notice.

Repointing is a common condition in the U.K. Nick of Prestige has done two videos related to the process of pointing paving, how to make a long-lasting sand and cement mix and how to apply it. When people fall behind on maintenance, from illness, finances or whatever, the paving develops crumbling pointing or just flat gaps, which can affect paving stability and weed growth. Liked the work on the steps, 7:47, you moved away mulch, got the algae and spots off, replaced the mulch, looked good. 16:12, any grouting here, on brick, was already gone/broken/largely missing. In the U.K., as far as I understand, for bricks, normally kiln dried sand is brushed in after the job is dry. There may be a rare form of small gravel for a particular style of brick laying. As far as cleaning, your video shows that a good job was being done. In a dirtier section, you have a Grime Line at 22:34. The new, plastic form, of pointing material has a tendency to crumble. Your Final photos show a classy looking job.

Maybe the grout grizzler could try this... "Gratitude turns what we have into enough" - Melody Beattie (American author). I can't stand ingratitude. Sorry, rant over 😁 Keep doing your fine work, it is MORE than enough 👍 ❤

It looked like most of the grout was missing before you started. Yup! The joys of home ownership never stop😂!! Nice job! Looked great! I’m guessing your client didn’t even understand the issue of maintaining it!

A bag of sand brushed in between the cracks the next day or after it's fully dried does the trick.

I found a product on Amazon called RMR 86. It's a great mold/mildew remover. It's supposed to work on about anything. It may work the next time you run into a brick sidewalk like this one. I'm not a landscaping professional, but I believe that instead of grout between the bricks its actually just sand. I may be wrong, though. Wouldn't be the first time...LOL

Yeah you're probably right about the sand. I certainly don't know either, I'm just a dumb ape with a bunch of equipment! Later I did another pressure washing of a deck and used a mildew remover on the garage. That seemed to work good.

This looks like the required material is in fact, locking polymer paver sand. This is supposed to be done periodically. I just touched up my large nine year old patio this summer Did about half of it and only used about 1/3 of a bag of sand. $59 bucks at Menards. Just pressure wash to prep and wait to dry then use broom to brush into the grooves. Not difficult work and the homeowners should certainly know this.

Somewhat ungrateful for your hard work and help. It must hurt to get that type of response. She would be better using a dry block sand, and brush it in the gaps. Allows drainage, easy weed removal and cheaper than grouting. I think you do wonderful things. This is exactly the type of situation that Reddit loves in its‘Choosing Beggars’ page btw!

That's nice, thanks. Yeah it's happened a couple times but that's ok. The end result was a great before-and-after so I'm happy with that. It's weird - I did the "nice" for them but I ended up happy afterward and they didn't. Happiness....or should I say "contentment"...is a choice.
