It was as if karma caught up with Mr. Burns for cheating at his baseball gamble by keeping seven of his baseball/softball ringers away from playing, after Smithers paid all of them loads of Mr. Burns's money to take temporary jobs at their nuclear power plant for just one softball game. After his prediction of that outside chance with seven misfortunes in one night and day came true, he probably thought to himself "Forget it, I might as well win this bet legitimately by using everyone from my original non-professional lineup." and that is why he let go Don Mattingly and Darryl Strawberry even after their game began. Steve Sax: arrested by Springfield PD officers Lou & Eddie for a crime he didn't commit, murder of a man in New York City, later cleared of it after the events of this episode cause Springfield PD is run by idoits., also the Springfield PD held a grudge against the Nuclear Power Plant after losing to them in a softball game. Mike Scioscia: got acute radiation poisoning from working at the nuclear power plant, but recovered to become the Angels manager and won the 2002 World Series. Ken Griffey Jr: got Gigantism from drinking way too much nerve tonic, but recovered enough to continue his career and retired in 2010 at 40 years old. Jose Conseco: was too busy saving everything from a burning house, after he was done, he went on to continue abusing steroids and ended up testifying in 2005 to congress about the abuse of it for performance enhancing in baseball. Wade Boggs: KO'd by Barney over a augment on who was a better English prime minister, he retired from baseball in 1999 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays (then Devil Rays). Ozzie Smith: Fell in the mystery hole, the Mystery Hole ended up sending him back to St. Louis at the end of a potal, went on to finish his MLB career in 1996. Don Mattingly: fired for refusing to "Shave off the sideburns" (that didn't exist), i assume Burns meant his mustache, continued playing for the Yankees until he retired from playing in 1995, went on to manage the Dodgers from 2011-2015 and currently the manager of the the Marlins. Roger Clements: hypnotized into a chicken, however, he was since unhypnotized and went on to play until 2007, where he retired as a New York Yankees pitcher, also alleged to fuck a teenage Mindy McCready in the late 90s, sadly she passed away in 2013 at 37 from suicide by gunshot to the head a month after her boyfriend and the baby daddy of her child died in a mysterious way. bonus: Daryl Strawberry: taunted by Bart and Lisa who wanted their dad "Home Run Homer" in, he cries, later he was pulled from the game after getting the taunt out of his head, he went on to play until he retired in 1999, also he developed a addiction to crack cocaine and sex itself and later became a born again Christian.

Fun fact: nearly four years before this episode, Wade Boggs guest-starred on “Cheers.” The main reason he agreed to appear in that episode was because he had a mistress who lived in Anaheim, California. He took advantage of having a free trip to CA and took two days off from spring training. Also, Darryl Strawberry was known for picking up mistresses in the stands while in the dugout and then gettin’ his rocks off before going back on the field. I suppose both of those facts were exaggerated due to the stereotype of athletes. So I would take both of those with a grain of salt.
