This was SO helpful, thank you! I've been trying to visualize what a history notebook would/could look like and this was priceless for me!

Can you share with me what additional readers you used with your independent reader to align with the studies?

New to your channel!! This was the best review I’ve seen on BF! I plan to do Notgrass 50 states this fall but this will be perfect for my boys the following year when they are 4th and 2nd grade.

Thank you! We loved BF! We just added 50 states to our line up for this coming year. We’ve been study US geography every year since 2nd-3rd grade and we still learn new things each time lol.

This was such a lovely review, thank you for sharing! I love your applications with the history notebooks. Signing the mayflower contract, must have been so special! I'm so looking forward to unboxing our set as soon as it arrives! Was this just the 1st half they offer? Where did you find the additional activities, maybe a beautiful feet fb group? This will be our first year homeschooling, just a kindergartener and her 2 yo brother. What you've done with your children is beautiful and inspiring.

Thanks for your review. I was wondering how do you schedule the readers that you add in? And do you think this is a good curriculum to use for a 3rd and 5th grader? This sounds so laid back and just what I think my boys could use next year. Is it hard to add to it? How do you follow your rabbit trails? Is there certain places you use? Sorry for all the questions 😂 and again thanks for sharing

MyTreasuredLife I definitely think it would be great for both 3rd and 5th grade kiddos. They will learn a ton from the read a louds alone, although you may want to add in additional comprehension questions from the reading for your older child. You'd be set up nicely to move into the intermediate next year which is for 4th-6th grades. For the readers, I scheduled them in after the first lesson of whatever book we were reading in BFB because my fluent reader (2nd grader) books weren't too lengthy she read a chapter a day for a week then on to the next lesson, next reader etc.

I didn't find it difficult to add to at all! The guide gave us so much flexibility to add to and even expand on some interesting things we wanted to learn more about.

Loved your review! To the point and thorough! How did you find readers for the specific time period?
@LetTheMorningBringWord

Svetlana Zaharjina Thank you so much! For the readers, I google "American History Readers by grade level" search the time period. I check out the websites for literature based homeschool curriculum publishers and see what their book lists or recommendations are, for the time period we are studying then finally I check out "good reads" and look up what the ratings are for the books I pick and what people have to say about them. Hope that helps some.

can you tell me what are the first few books used in the teacher's guide? I bought the teacher's guide but it won't be here for a while, I want to get the books that we will need first.

Thanks for sharing! Do you think 6 is a good age for this? We will just be starting formal schooling then
@LetTheMorningBringWord

Simply Kaley I would say yes only because at most what's required for the student is some copy work and light activity in notebook for that age, and the least is listening to a read aloud. It's hard to say how that translates when you are using a curriculum with only one child on the younger side. Sometimes it can feel like a lot. I will say we have loved it with all three of ours and our youngest was 4 and 1/2 when we started. I would highly suggest taking the two year(school year) track to allow time for those rabbit trails and other fun tie ins to history. Hope that helps some. TFW!
