I've had those years when it was bare minimum and just survival.... homeschool is a cycle, which I know you already know. Some years we can do more, some years we have to do less... I just love we all have that flexibility :)

My husband, who never liked to read, liked Tuckett's Travels. I'm not sure who the author is but he reads it aloud to our boys and they all enjoy it. It's adventurous but I can't tell you much more than that as it's their thing and I haven't listened much.

I use Homeschool Planet for my planner, but I STILL ordered the Not Consumed Homeschool Planner bc of the thoughtfulness that goes along with her planner! I realized I needed that to stay focused and grounded bc it's not just about the assignments.... it's so much more than that! So, I'm excited to use it for the first time this coming year!

G.A. Henty is a very exciting author of historical fiction books. I do often read his books out loud because I like to edit as I go. They are very accurate and sometimes a little gruesome. But extremely engaging for boys (and for my girls as well), describing battles and struggles of a young hero. He wrote a long time ago so the books might even be in the public domain.

My 14 year old son just read God's Smuggler, he really enjoyed it so I read it also, it really was a great story! I just found your channel and look forward to hearing your grade 6 plans, my youngest is going into 6th grade and my oldest is also becoming an electrician and my 14 year old is starting Denison math next school year 😊

Wow, discoverer your channel today and have been binging - so helpful and exactly what I needed to hear as we prepare for 8th grade. How do you incorporate unit studies without overloading the family schedule? How do you choose a unit? Decision fatigue is one of the hardest things as I homeschool. How did you find the laser/3D cutting opportunity as well? Bless you!

I love that you're embracing how God created boys/young men to work. You are training them well to be providers. My son has that drive as well, and he's just 9. Also, we LOVE Farmer Boy, honestly the entire LHOTP series, we finished up The Long Winter in our school year. We will definitely read that one again in the future. Sign of The Beaver was a favorite with my son, a classic and easy read that would be a fun unit study also.

It's so fun to see how everyone does homeschool differently! My kids and I would all rather stick our hands in a meat grinder than do a read aloud 🤣 Here everyone powers through math and language arts, the older ones read their own chapters in history and science and we move on with our lives as fast as we can. 😅 But it's still nice to hear what others do and pick and choose things from different styles!

Hi Jaymie, I’m a new subscriber , but I’ve known of your channel for years. But recently, your videos have been so on point for my season of life. I’m aligned with so much of what you share. Thank you for being you, and doing it the way God has called you and your family to do it. That’s one of the things that ministers to me about your videos. When I need a reminder to run in my own lane, I go back and watch your old videos (new to me). God bless you! I also have 3 boys ages 6-9 and a little girl who is 4. So much of what you share is really helpful to my homeschool since formally, it’s mostly boys right now :) it will be interesting if things feel different when my daughter is more involved.
