My son has been in public school his whole life. He asked to be homeschooled next year (10th grade oh my!) and I was so grateful because I had been thinking about homeschooling. God is good! I have never homeschooled so this is BRAND NEW territory for me. Thank you for this information.

I think there is not a great deal of info because people do not want to be judged for the vast decisions they are making. I have already found lots of diverse opinions on middle school and I'm going with a very unpopular opinion. My state basically lets us do whatever we want. Nothing needed for transcript that is specific. No testing. We are in Florida but will be in Alabama. Unschooling works perfectly. I do not plan to do a college prep high school. I do not plan on going past algebra 1. I have lost all the panic and I am perfectly excited to do what they are interested in and mine are headed to 4th! I have evolved so much from the time we started and I feel a groove. If mine want to go to college or tech school or whatever it is we will have them ready if needed. We have to get our Wisdom from Jesus- let him lead us, guide us and I'm feeling very good about the rest of this long journey! It is exciting!

This was so encouraging! Even for a momma who has been homeschooling for 6 years and the last 2 years have been high school with my oldest!! When I started 6 years ago, I had NO intention of homeschooling through high school, and here I am. And honestly, if I didn't have God carrying me through this all, I wouldn't have made it this far. The enemy is always at work giving me doubts and fears that I'm not doing it wrong. And just like you, if I dwell on it for long, it wins! I think even the veterans need this encouragement you are providing. Looking forward to watching your journey through high school :)

My oldest is technically going to be 8th grade, but he's doing high school level work for most things, so I've been wrestling with how to handle that as well. Love your point that God didn't bring us this far to leave us - so good!!

Thank you so much for this! I'm crying as soon as you start speaking, I am overwhelmed right now, my husband decided to withdraw my son from public school, he has autism, but we don't have a game plan. He just thought this is good for him, he got so obsessed with video games because they are in their Google chrome all day long. And he managed to play a game even in his classes. Everything revolves around computers now so we do not expect public school teachers to babysit my son because they already have too much on their plate and my son does have great teachers. This helps me a lot, just to be mentally prepared for the next chapter in our lives. All the comments are so awesome and comforting too! Thank you so much for this space, I feel so much better now...very hopeful, almost excited to what's next, instead of fear eating me alive...for days all I do is cry and pray...now I can see the light...so thank you so so very much and for all the Ladies' here that shares their knowledge and wisdom as well ..God bless all of us!❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

In Maine we don't have graduation requirements outside of the normal homeschool law and that was a little intimidating to me. And then even when I looked at the public school graduation requirements, I realized they didn't require much for a public school diploma. So, I started looking at college admissions requirements to kind of set the path (although we have a lot of wiggle room when a college requires "English 1"). A couple of books that were really encouraging to me thinking about high school: Setting the Records Straight by Lee Binz; Thomas Jefferson Education: Scholars Phase & Thomas Jefferson Education for Teens. And then another favorite that I have used for years is Home Learning Year by Year. I was just remarking the other day how when you start homeschooling you have a lot of doubt, then you tend to get comfortable in your rhythm, and then high school happens and those doubts start to work their way back into your mind. But! You can do it! Just remember the reasons why you are homeschooling, and that there are so many different directions your high school experience can go. And with the amount of interest-led learning that you can accomplish in a homeschool setting, you are setting your kids up to have a great understanding of a path they want to follow after graduation. Cheers to a great 1st year of high school 😊

Hurray for homeschool high school!! I love this stage because it's when you've mastered all the basics and you're able to go further and challenge them, and offer them opportunities to dive into big interests. Our family's 6th high school graduate finished all of her required credits by 11th grade, and spent her entire year in self-directed art studies--and she's now thriving, finished her second year as an art education major and getting opportunities to work as an artist illustrator. Your advice to talk to a friend who has graduated kids in your state is very wise! For example--Michigan is a little quirky in that ACT scores can be very important--we found out that for some of my siblings, they could be excused from some college requirements if they had an ACT score above a certain level. So they took the ACT.--but in many other states, there would be no reason to take the ACT.

I was homeschooled my whole life but I started working full time at 15. I barely remember doing any school at home, my mom was pretty overwhelmed with everything going on and I wasn’t an easy child 🤣. However, I started community college at 16.5 and only had to take one lower level math class and no lower level english. Took is slow and had my LPN at 19 and my RN/AA degree by 20. I know even if I just do bare bones high school my son will be fine. I’m not doing bare bones of course though 🤣, I do have a plan!

I got lost in worrying as well and started job hunting but then stilled myself and said outloud that God has provided for me and my daughter this far why am I worried? Why am I all of a sudden on a new path of self seeking instead of seeking my Father? This ministered to me and I understand. You’re going to do great. Some of my regrets through highschool with my oldest, that is now about to graduate with honors and head off to college with a presidential award, would be that we didn’t teach enough writing. He did some dual enrollment classes his senior year and it was a pretty rough transition. I would recommend teach them starting their freshman year how to do apa and other types of formatted papers. Grow their skills in those very lengthy papers if they are college bound. Also I didn’t realize that I really only had him until his junior year. His senior year he got a job, he did all college classes, it was tough. I felt blind sided, like I thought I had more time, but our year just kind of fell apart and went a different direction. So prepare your mind for that if that is where God may lead them, dual enrollment was very good for us, I just wasn’t expecting it. Start figuring out college now. Scholarships and grants and things. Another thing I waited to do. Don’t be like me. This stuff is so confusing.

God started calling me to homeschool our daughter when she was a preschooler. Because she is like an only child(our son is 18 years older), I listened to the lie from the enemy that an only child needs to be with other kids everyday. So, I kept her in public school through the 7th grade. It was fine, but I knew God wanted homeschool for her. So I repented for my disobedience to HIM and brought her home. We’re in our third year of homeschooling and she is currently a sophomore. I agree that God will walk you through these high school years and never leave you. I also agree that co-op would be very helpful. My daughter has taken all her sciences, foreign language, and technology courses there. It has been a blessing more than not. Everything else is either online or parent led. As far as friends, God was so gracious and faithful that he brought one of my daughter’s public school friends home to school with us. They have had such a fun year schooling together!! See how God works? You’re going to be a wonderful homeschooling mom to your high schooler….bc of your love and dedication to your boys and bc of God’s love for you!! Blessings~🙏🏻💙🌺

For me, homeschooling is part of my purpose which helps me layout the Vision. I tell anyone (from homeschoolers to entrepreneurs), you want to try to see the end in mind and work backwards (reverse engineer) to produce the results you hope to see in incremental phases (without haste). You were given dominion to educate your kiddos! Sitting in that dominion and remembering the Purpose and Vision helps you cement (firmly plant) that seed in your heart and mind 😊

My daughter is finishing up grade 10. Here are some things I learned: 1. Make sure you know how many credits your son needs for each high school year, so that he has enough credits to graduate. 2. Keep up with the transcript for each year. Please do not write up all the transcripts at the end of grade 12! Because you may forget something to add to the transcript. Write out the transcript at the end of each school year, or better yet for each semester. I write out at the end of each semester. Transcripts are not hard to do! If your son volunteers, make sure you include that on the transcript too. I’m in Minnesota, and we have to test every year, so if you have to test every year, make sure to keep a copy of the test results in his portfolio. Check your school district for how many credits he needs to graduate. High school is not difficult! If I can do this high school thing, anyone can do it! I always enjoy watching your videos! I bought your planner, and I love it. I will be using your planner for the rest of our school years! It’s a game changer! If you have any questions on high school I’m here for you! You got this! Praying for you in this new high school journey! ♥️🎉🎉🎉♥️

Wow,great video! We are a few years ahead of you in High School and here’s our thoughts. Investigate the COOPS curriculum your considering…some go with the “most popular” and it’s not a fit for your child. Please consider the outside pressures of the teachers as well…if your schooling subjects at home and their going to coop for some, it may be an overload feeling. Your boys may enjoy blue collar homeschool. When they hit 12th ,Mathematics For The Trades might be a good fit(or interning). Some curriculum we’ve enjoyed for High School were: Learn math fast (can jump in at the book the child is ready for), US HISTORY DETECTIVE, TGATB English(I use to piece it all together), ASL lifeprint (free sign language with professor Bill Vickers), Biology 101 series and Chemistry 101 series(things from your kitchen and labs are going to the river, animal store, pet store, laid out weekly schedule). Our school system demands we provide a list of subjects to be studied and we have to turn that in yearly. We also have to turn in test results yearly. I’m just worried about the list each year. We actually are still reviewing and finishing workbooks and I got a couple to do over (big fats are great but my son needs some work in a few areas so I got their bigger book version to do some stuff again to strengthen his skills and review and some because he just had too much explaining and needs to be able to do it without so much). But a lot of his work has actually been more like highschool pre algebra and pre geometry anyway. It’s amazing how advanced the work gets so early on. Anyway, I am more concerned with them passing the ACT and SAT and would like them to take the PSAT. I also worry about the schools judging my list of subjects each year on the highschool level. That is what worries me most. Many people say bad things about the GED, but for good measure I am tempted to have him take that in the future (and my daughter who is two years behind him).

I'm not sure how it is in other states, but Ohio has a law called Diploma Fairness Law. We make our own diplomas for graduation and determine when our kids meet the requirements. Homeschool diplomas are equivalent to high-school diplomas here.

Thank you for this video. We are getting close to high school. We are joining a co-op in the Fall. I see so much value in it - frog dissection isn’t for me!! And I’m only one person and can’t do it all.

When we started when my son was just in the 3rd grade I kept telling myself high school was so far off I didn't need to worry about it. Now we are coming up to 7th grade and it's creeping up again.

I looked at clep tests here at the junior college and they didn’t look like much. I expected more than that and I’m thinking that’s out the window except maybe language and math.

I tried coop many years ago when I was starting out with my children (my first two) and it was so unwelcoming. I tried two groups. We haven’t socialized other than church which I gave up on about five years ago. My kids have slowly been ostracized from cousins and neighbors never wanted their kids to play with mine. We are in a Mexican family and Hispanic neighborhood and I’m white and that is a thing as we have heard their comments (mainly their cousins) also we are not Catholic so another reason they don’t want to hang w my kids and the other is that I don’t like alcohol at parties so we no longer get invited to anything. In my area there is nothing for teens or even little children save for a couple Bible schools in the summer. The corner church has gone way off the rails and even the pastor went off on me so I won’t be going back which really breaks my heart…. I wish I could feel confident sending my kids to school to socialize. But I just don’t trust the schools.

There’s a coop here that offers gym but it’s a hundred plus bucks. And I’m not sure of safety and how they do things really. It just says gym.

Yeah. This mask mandates has done it for me. I’m not going to mask my child all day. They aren’t forcing the vax it seems but it seems they have to mask if not. I’m not sure. It seems that could change back and forth and who knows what’s next at this point.
