On November 17th 1971 i saw Yes at Elyria Catholic High School. They played in the gym. It was simply amazing. The next day i was back in Columbus Ohio hanging out in a tiny guitar shop off campus when Steve Howe walked in. There was maybe 5 people in the shop. He proceeded to play a couple of songs for us on acoustic which was absolutely mind blowing. He was super nice. Great memories.

You had me at Starship Trooper. Steve Howe was the prototypical EVH as far as being the most skilled during his time period. The thing I like about him so much is that he would try ANYTHING live, absolutely fearless. Great stuff! One of my college buddies played a black Guild 6 string acoustic that was SO musical and easy to play. Here is the thing about Marshalls (IMO) - the OX Box and related load boxes have renewed and TAPPED OUT the market on them.

My very first stage guitar in 1969 was an Ox-blood Guild S100! I loved that thing! The only new dread I ever bought was a Guild D35 burst, in about 1971 for $350!, in '73 I bought a Guild D25M that I still have, and a Guild F212 I still own, out on loan, since the early 80's LOL. I had an F512 I borrowed to play "happy hour" gigs with for years. Back in the late 60's forward there were all kinds of gigs available. I played 4 nights w/the full band, 3 happy hours as a duo, and at least 2 hosting/playing for what we call today "open mic". There were a lot of young ladies that could really sing! They paid me $30 to set up an extra mic, and play for anyone who wanted to sing. There were some just awful ones, but some really good ones too! Sorry to ramble on here, if you got this far, thanks for reading my dumb story!! .. 8) --gary

That Ibanez flanger sounds yummy! I’ve got a green Electric Mistress, made in 1978 I think. Every modern repro (Hartman, etc.) I’ve owned gets most of the way there but then wusses out and filters noise, killing fidelity in the process. Stupid. Got two 1970 Guilds, a hollowbody Bluesbird with the smaller HBs (Anti-hums) and an S-100 with the bigger ones (HB-1s). Both play nice and sound great. The Anti-hums are an odd variant with thinner wire wound to a lower DC resistance. They’ve got a hi-fi sound…love ‘em for playing clean. The HB-1s in the S-100 are low wind (~7K) and also have lotsa treble clarity along with more beef than the Anti-hums. I recently way downsized my guitar stash due to a move…the two Guilds were among the 20 keepers.
