SNL made a big mistake firing Damon

But Damon Wayans didn't like his time on the show. He and Danitra Vance were the only black people on the 1985-86 season (and that season was already rife with other problems, like low ratings and critics once again writing off SNL as a lost cause just because the cast wasn't funny) and there was no opportunity for Damon to do his kind of humor since most of their writers were white (and would later go on to write for The Simpsons during its glory days). At least SNL made up for it by having Damon come back to do stand-up on what would have been the last episode of the series (Anjelica Huston and Billy Martin with musical guest George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic; say what you want about SNL during season 11, they still had good musical guests) and host during season 20 (another bad season, though this was bad because of cast in-fighting, Phil Hartman leaving, and overuse of tasteless humor, but, hey, we got Weekend Update with Norm Macdonald as a saving grace) where Wayans brought over his character from the Men on Film sketches and that homeless guy Anton Jackson. TLDR: Damon Wayans when he was on the 1985-86 season of SNL didn't have the same opportunity to showcase his humor about the African-American experience as he would have with his own show due to how white-centric SNL was at the time and how SNL was dealing with its own problems with a disjointed cast and writing that no one appreciated at the time. Just be thankful he had his own sketch series on FOX back when it actually was edgy and subversive.

Maybe balled up socks. My Goddaughter made a sock like that once to defend herself against her siblings.
