I feel like the general public is well mis-informed about turbo engines and there over all reliability. Honda has been building turbo gasoline engines for over 15 years and Diesels for longer. Just because the US hasn’t seen this technology doesn’t mean they aren’t reliable good engines. Most failures come from (unfortunately) supplier part failures by cheapening costs, and manufacturing quality issues. Majority of the turbo designs will last just as long as a normally aspirated engine and with regular maintenance normal aspirated engines, these you can expect a tune up at 90k-120k

So what exactly are you supposed to do? Wait a minute to turn the car off after driving it hard?
@chaseseal1151
Жыл бұрын
@@lennygarrison6836 exactly!! Let it idle and let the turbo cool down and slow before turning it off. When you turn the engine off with the turbo still hot and spinning, you also cut off the oil pressure getting to the turbo. It briefly loses lubrication. This can lead to excessive wear and tear on your turbo

@@chaseseal1151 makes sense. I’m strongly considering buying the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback 6 speed manual. Long term reliability is at the top of my list when purchasing a new vehicle. Along with the turbo, I’m worried about the carbon build up on the valves from the direct injection.

I feel like Honda should have maybe gone with a turbo that doesn’t spool up as fast as these little ones do. Especially considering how weak the rods and head bolts are, less torque down low would be of benefit. But I guess as long as they fail after factory warranty is up, why should Honda give a shit? Or maybe they could’ve just engineered them with thicker rods and head bolts to begin with lol
