Quickly approaching 30 years old this vehicle goes beyond the materials that made it. It is a time capsule. It shows more of what was possible at that time than anyone could have ever imagined. It put high end auto makers back in their chairs and back to the drawing board. At first glance the auto world stood still and admired the engineering and ingenuity it took to build and design. Yet even today, it still has the same affect. 30 years ago in a world full of very boxy looking vehicles, the NSX's shape stood apart like a mix of Formula 1 race car and F16 fighter jet. Honda knew this car was their flagship vehicle to represent the racing heritage brought by many years of great race car drivers. With that in mind the auto maker did not skimp out in that area by any means. This came with the help of one of the greatest of all time, Ayrton Senna. He worked closely to help the designers at Honda to perfect what was already a significant piece of automotive brilliance, the Honda NSX.
It is not fast by any means by todays standards however, for most enthusiasts when you get behind the wheel this car gives you a great gift of road feel and nostalgia. As my car approaches 29 years old and 203,000 miles it still fills the satisfaction in terms of usable performance for the street. I've owned many nice vehicles and some very fast however I don't feel the need in this car to stuff the pedal every time I get into the driver's seat. Or maybe it's just that I'm older and can appreciate it for what it is and don't need to prove myself that it's capable because I know it is. Don't get me wrong, I will still from time to time get the urge to feel what it does best especially on an occasional track day. I still plan to explore the sports car world but hope I can always have a safe place for my NSX in the stable and continue to make my personal touches on it. So here's to that, enjoy...
