Exactly, for those who use the bike also for everyday urban commuting it's super helpful, struggling at redlights and in the traffic jam in morning? Use it, leaving the office and go for a countryside ride before egtting home? Enjoy it in manual! A system like the new Yamaha Y-AMT or Honda DCT itself doesn't allow you to do that, it's just automatic and gives you the only possibility to play with buttons.

We have 2 new 2024 CB 650 R in the family now. An A2 Version that my son owns and an “open” version with eClutch that my wife bought. EClutch helps her to start again biking after a 20 year break, glad Honda developed it ❤ We all LOVE the engine sound, the look, the screaming inline 4 if you race it - but the also the very smooth, typical 4 cylinder that you can accelerate with 1.000 rpm without any engine hiccups. Try this with a 2 cylinder… Fantastic bike. Only the “Angstnippel” could be a bit shorter, you also hear them while Schaaf is cornering.

Best video explaining the e clutch feature. Subscribed!! I would say the only reason to not have the eclutch is that our shin are already near the engine on the 2023 version, and eclutch amplifies this problem a little bit. I have the 2023 version (or whatever before the eclutch feature) and i love it visually, stock sound is perfect and the bike feels perfect. If i want to go more sporty/manuever mode i put my chest down and the bike moves with your mind, but if i want to be relaxed i can sit upright and shut my mind off. As an amateur and a guy who uses the bike to work, commute and go into meetings with clients on really hard-to-park locations, the bike is just perfect. Forgiving, smooth, etc

It's great to have your opinion on this technology! I haven't had the chance to test this system yet, but on paper, I really like it. Since my motorcycle is my main vehicle, and I ride just as much in big cities as in the mountains, it seems like the perfect comfort/sport compromise (with the added bonus of still having a clutch to do some silly things). I'm not entirely sure about what I'm saying, but it seems to me that the CB650 still has a cable clutch, which makes adding a blipper impossible. But maybe on a more modern bike it would be possible to have the advantages of the E-Clutch and modern shifter. (CB1000 Hornet?) 😏😁
@Schaaf

Yes, the CB650 has a normal cable clutch, but that's not the point, my S1000XR has a cable clutch too and has a blipper as well...like many other bikes and all the race bikes too. The "e-clutch" is really just a servo-actuator that "pulls the lever" whenever the rider doesn't want to do it by himself. Which can be very useful in traffic, in start/walking pace/stop and repeat situations. Incidentally it can also do the same stuff that a quickshifter/blipper does, that is allowing you to shift without using the clutch lever - but beware, a quickshifter /blipper really allows you to AVOID using the clutch (like you would do with rev matching), the Honda e-clutch actually uses the clutch, the bike just does it by itself without rider input (like the Honda DCT system, which is a completely different system, but still uses the clutch - two of them actually). That's why it doesn't blip the throttle - there's no need at all, blipping is only needed if you want to downshift without using the clutch, to match the speed of engine and gearbox, but if the clutch is actually used while shifting (up or down), it will handle the difference of speed between engine and gearbox without need for blipping. Which is actually why clucthes were invented in the first place.
@FL0Kl
8 күн бұрын
@@francescomagni3727 Oh yes, you're right, sorry. I was thinking of the throttle and not the clutch when I was talking about the cable system, but since English isn't my first language, I mixed up all the terms haha. So, if I go back to what I was saying, it seems to me that blippers are generally available on bikes that already have electronic throttles in order to interface between the user and the engine (to simplify a lot). And since the e-clutch is just an automated clutch, I imagine it's still possible, for example, to lock up the rear wheel on overly aggressive downshifts. So associate it with another system like a sort of blipper, when possible, doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
@frankie_716
8 күн бұрын
@@FL0Klno need to be sorry man, yours is an understandable doubt 👍. Anyways you're right that with cable throttles there can be no blipper (actually, it is theoretically possible to have a blipper on a cable throttle bike but it's extremely complicated and as far as I know no road bike with a cable throttle has also a blipper). But the rear lock up under downshifts has little to do with the blipper, I mean it's true that blipping the throttle (or rev-matching) basically avoids rear lock-ups but the point is that a downshift rear lock-up (or axle-lock as it's called in cars) is not a lock-up at all! What happens is that the engine in an aggressive downshift will find itself turning much faster than the rear wheel and if there is not enough traction (for example because the weight is shifting to the front of the bike under braking, or on wet road or whatever reason) the engine will try accelerate the wheel to a faster speed than the front wheel. Which has exactly the same effect as a rear brake lock up, that is a slide/yaw. To prevent this, it is possible to blip the throttle (rev-matching) and it can be done by the rider or by the blipper, or, you can let the clutch slide to "absorb" the speed difference between engine and wheel - which is very roughly what a anti-hopping clutch does, and in this case, what the e-clutch does. This is not really an optimal way to deal with downshifts, but don't forget that the cb650 is a 4cyl with relatively low horsepower and torque and extremely low engine braking, so probably honda thought it was good enough. On a cb1000 or on a big twin, the system would surely need a completely different setup (but honda developed the e-clutch specifically for smaller engines and relatively cheap bikes, for fast and big bikes they already have the DCT)

@Schaaf

2kgs. I would never be able to sense a difference of 2kgs added near a low point of the bike. Anybody who does is either lying or a professional test rider

Also Jacken/Sommerhandschuhe für Langarmige?
@Schaaf

I think the system looks a bit ugly and vulnerable to falls and/or slides (especially slides where it might get caught in something). But I like that you can downshift with open throttle. I'd still rather have a good normal quickshifter.

Jesus, this is the shortest cuff on any of your riding jackets i've seen this far. 😂 The manufacturers better send some of the "tall" size gear to 1000ps, so that you get some decent threads sent your way. The elbow pads must be somewhere under your arm pit. 😂

For me this eClutch thing is a gimmick to still sell a bike with a cable throttle in todays market trying to compete with bikes that have ride by wire. In spirited rides i rarely touch the clutch so its advantages over a quickshifter are basically none for the type of bike it aspires to be.
@Schaaf

That is correct but at the same time many manufacturers are currently developing systems like that, also for very recent models
