Quote me on this “well it’s a front wheel drive car it slows it down 😿” Again the video also backs up my saying that it’s just not all about looks nor (straight line racing) but it was made for the track. Put aside the unusual rear diffusers but it looks amazing the car is a work of art and performance masterpiece from a company who’s never really been building incredible fast big engines because their goal was to build efficient engines with plug and play exterior and interior design.

While I do roll my eyes (mostly) at high rear wings, you have to accept the Type R for what it is. A purpose built car designed to set a record fast pace around a historic race course. If that isn’t your cup of tea then you have options: pay to have it removed or shuttle off to a different brand. The wing signifies credibility that may not hold true with other modified cars or cars from the factory. I’m still thankful for Honda for selling the car as is, definitely no poseur.

Now that I have a type R, what I thought I would hate about the electric parking brake is actually love. When you get in the car and put on your seatbelt, tap once on brake hold and the parking brake will automatically release once you start moving. Every time you come to a stop, the car will hold its brakes with the brake lights on without your foot on the brake pedal. Once you start moving it releases. When you park the car, the moment you remove your seatbelt, the parking brake automatically engages. Pretty awesome.

Here in the NY/CT area, roads are in terrible shape. On this car, with 20" rims, it would be easy to damage a wheel on a pothole. And make no mistake, they are easy to hit, especially at dusk. However, the car can be fitted with 18" alloy rims and 235/45 General G-MAX high-performance all-season tires, with a decent 500AA treadwear rating for commuting. According to Tire Rack, such a package can be had for around $1100, nothing fancy but it beats bending an expensive 20" rim or having a flat.

AMAZING car! My family and I LOVE it so much, WING AND ALL, that this quickly made the short list of what car we want to get as our second car. Right now there are only 2 cars on that list, this Civic Type R and the Hyundai Veloster N. I love that Honda and Hyundai are making cars for the enthusiast meaning high performance cars with manuals. I also can't forget the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 but that car is way out of my price range right now which again shows how much of a value the Type R is. If people don't buy these PHENOMINAL manuals we have no one to blame but ourselves. Also if people don't want the wing on the Type R they should just stick with the Civic SI or Civic Sport. BTW, I also do agree that journalists have to take better car of these cars. No way those rims should have been grinded up like that! I thought these people drove cars for a living.

I agree 100 percent! I hate the wing and that's a great idea with touring package. I have owned 3 Hondas and 4 Toyotas and the very first thing mod I did was remove the factory spoiler. I love catching people slipping in my sleeper and would like to be under the radar doing it... Thank you

Much cheaper than the top of the line STI. As a long term Subaru Fan, who owned 2 brand new WRXs, I think I am putting my name on the waitlist of the Type-R this week. Sorry Subaru, I will miss your AWD which saved me a few times in the rain.

Are you sure you won't miss 4WD traction? I used to have a 2011 Forester (5 spd manual) and right after that a 2015 Focus ST. I loved the performance of the ST, but it was hard to accelerate without wheel spin even at 70 km/h, and I hated that. This Honda has more power than the ST which to me is too much for a FWD car. I just miss Subaru's AWD system.

I am a hardcore honda fan. I currently drive a 9th generation Civic Si that I love. Everything mechanically about this type R is a dream: the engine, transmission, LSD, suspension, steering, brakes and even interior are all excellent. This would be a perfect car for me IF it wasn't so ugly. I'm sorry but this car's appearance is pure rice. Wtf Honda, a lot of people who have the income to afford this don't want to drive around in fake fents and a park bench wing. The base civic is a beautiful car, why did they have to ruin it?! If they just put type R badges on the stock civic it would look a million times better than this!

I'm not a Honda fan, nor a Civic fan, but i like this car, i think without the wing the car would look bald and strange, i think the wing adds a huge performance presence, and at least the car can back it up, its not like its a 92 Civic LX with this huge wing. I do however hate the black cheese graters, i agree with you on that.

Good review.! That wing needs to go, at the very least give buyers an option to go wingless. Would you say this car is easier to drive as a daily then focus rs?
@swanblake
6 жыл бұрын
Vince if you want a more compliant ride, do with the Type R. The one take away I got from The RS was how bumpy the ride was. That said the Focus RS was more fun to drive due to its nice torque. Definelty faster than the Type R but I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. Test drive both. Very different in my opinion

Would you buy this over a Alfa Romeo Giulia Q4 (280cv), especially if you have to drive in badly plowed snow about 1 month a year, and you see snow 4 months a year? Is the LSD that effective?

Nice car for an 18 year old that can afford the Canadian price with taxes of well over 50k. Not sure who this car is for? I don't think any person with intact vision over the age of 25 would want to be seen in this thing. Performance is amazing for FWD, but you have to look at the horrific monstrosity looks every day. Should come with Type R sunglasses

Sapient Budgie performance is amazing period. It’s faster around the track than all of its awd competitors. Price where I am is around $45,000 after tax, even if you are in a place with hst it can’t be over $50,000 unless you’re paying over msrp.

Anyone who doesn't like the big wing they are coming out with an option to opt out for a smaller wing next year. If you look it up honda has been spotted testing a smaller wing. Also the accord sport uses the same engine as this it's just mellowed out about 50ish hp and it's bolted to a 10 speed auto.

The Civic SI is how thr Type R should have looked. Too much ugly to be proud of it. Seen them up close in person and they actually get uglier as there is so many gaps and sharp lines. If car looks did not add to the satisfaction and feeling of specialness, then the Type R is amazing. Nothing wrong with it mechanically. A lot to love. It's just the shell of ugly. Why Honda

Blake Swan my father is 64 years old and grew up with muscle cars and loves muscle cars. He currently has a mustang gt in a manual ofcourse. I saw him on his laptop looking at a type r build. Then he asked me if i ever heard of it lol. I told him about the car months ago but soon as he heard "Honda civic" he lost all interest. Turns out he saw one in person at a Honda dealership while my mother's car was being serviced. He said out was "beautiful" lol. I was shocked. I was going to get an sti at the end of this year but i might just get a type r lol. Cant believe he thought it was beautiful.

Joe Friday i live in the states aswell and in mine (nj) they won't let me test drive an sti. They're acting like its a hurucan or something. If you are debating whether to get this car, and you love pure driving without a lot of gadgets but need a practical daily driver, you will love this car. The only downside is that you become a little paranoid about the tires. You will memorize every pothole and manhole on your commute as you learn to avoid them!

I am considering getting one to daily drive. I put about 35,000 miles on a vehicle per year, so if I pull the trigger, it’ll be worthless in a couple years, but I could careless. I like the car.
