My 2021 Type in Southern California has never seen rain or snow and is a rust bucket already. The factory it was made in Swindon (a small town) in the UK left parts out in the elements or something? I have owned seven Hondas and have never seen and rust in them. This is a factory default, and Honda knew it and closed the plant down due to complaints I assume? 2022 Type R's will be made in Ohio. Now I am stuck with a rust bucket of a car that has always been garaged, has 800 miles on it, never seen rain, and never seen snow. I almost did not buy this car because it was not made in Japan like my BRZ, I should have listened to my gut. Now I got a rust bucket sitting in my garage, I am so disappointed in Honda. We need to start a class action lawsuit against Honda for a defective car full of rust.

it is very, very good that you are documenting and publishing your findings. I'd expect wear, plenty of external grime from operations and _maybe_ some discoloration in higher heat areas. But corrosion is insane in a ~2 yr old vehicle's internals. Non-Type-R civics should not have the moisture intrusion from the hood, but still, this raises an eyebrow similar to the recent gas in oil problem in the Honda 1.5T power plant. And I wonder if normal spray from rainy driving and atmospheric moisture will penetrate those seals with normal Civics.

Im thinking if no one catches this on their car, they won't feel the repercussions of this HONDA PROBLEM until waaaay after their warranty expires and then it's gonna fall solely on the customer to pay MORE to fix it. I'm gonna check this issue tomorrow and figure out a solution ASAP ! Either Honda needs to do something or I'll do something. Maybe a quick fix is to put thread sealant tape on all those spark plug coil bolts and on the red cover bolts too.

steel bolts rust unfortunately. just like steel break discs. could be brand new disc and go out in the rain once and theyll be rust spots the next mornin.. just surface rust tho. its about time they start galvanizing their hardware tho. especially nuts and bolts under the cars. tho have you seen the price of an OEM bolt from any of the big manufacturers.. thats where they make a lot of their money. why change when their pockets get fatter lol sad but true. first thing i do when doing my brakes is change them out for galvanized nuts n bolts. especially around the stuff that breaks easily or gets wet a lot..like end links, suspension, breaks and so on.. theres companies that do all sorts of dress up bolts that dont rust but will costs you a small fortune to replace. like titanium bolts and washers that dont rust.
