My 2018 Honda civic had oil dilution problem , I used 5/30 full syn and if driving around town kept the trans in sport mode to keep engine warm , there a very efficient engine . I now have a 2022 CRV and am doing the same thing so far no oil dilution . I live in Alberta cold weather

That’s good to know See you had a 2018 with the oil dilution problem and then you bought another one in 2022 I really do like it but I won’t be buying another one I was interested in getting the hybrid model but I won’t get another 1.5 turbo

I'm considering buying a '22 Civic Hatchback, and I'd certainly enjoy the additional power of the 1.5 liter, turbo/direct injection engine, but will opt for the standard, naturally-aspirated, port-injection engine. It seems that oil dilution with gasoline is an inherent problem with direct injection fuel systems (along with carbon buildup on intake valves). There is no magic cure. Direct injection remains - first and foremost - a solution for the manufacturer to meet ever-tightening fuel economy standards.

I just bought a 2021 CRV Special Edition, at 1000 miles I’m going to change the oil & filter, then after that I’ll change it around 3000 & post if I have any dilution

you should not do your first oil change at 1000 check with the dealership first there are sometimes special additives to the oil to help with engine brake in the first change is different with cars built after 2000 I hope that this helps Ray

On that stud you grinded off, just install a new nut onto the pan and secure it JB Weld.

After a few oil changes it has an added bonus as well It’s the annoying rattle that you can’t find in the car After a while you just don’t even realize it’s making a rattling sound

Speak with your wallet. I have the same oil dilution problem. I will buy a rav 4 . I have owned hondas since 1991. The 1.5 does not like cold weather. I drive mine in sport mode and use a inline heater when parked. I have all the updates. Honda Canada blamed the dealership for not being able to fix oil dilution and lack of heat. Some oil dilution is acceptable. The 1.5 will not last in cold climate on short runs. Where I live dealer has told me that they have had ice in the crankcase of these engines.

Hard to believe Honda would make a bottom cover that would use such a crap way to attach. And to think a zip tie actually does the same job! I wonder what would happen if you just leave that stupid metal shield off? Gas mileage drops from 30mpg to 29.5mpg?

Unfortunately the Honda of today is not the same as decades ago... Soichiro would not be pleased...also the engine vibration problem of the CRV a few years ago.

Thats bad dilution for such a short interval. As for the mud guard, get rid of it. The last generation of CRV, which i have, didn't have one and I see no reason why Honda added it. Its not needed.

Would an oil catch can work to help this? This is scary. I would avoid the 1.5 L turbo due to its Oil dilution history. The CRV hybrid model has a different engine. Some videos say to try 91 octane gas. to see if it helps (Others say it wont work). . They should have just kept the old 2.4 L engine. I don't know if a software update will solve the problem. BTW- the Rav 4 has a normal non turbo engine and a non CVT transmission.

This is why you shouldn't do you own oil changes and leave it to professionals. All this nonsense is data for his class action suit for the gas in oil problem that are all but extinct from an update for the 2018-2019 Honda's. Most people get rid of 6 year old cars but he is going to make this lawsuit his dying mission. I feel sorry for this guy waiting for word back on a worthless cause.
