My wife loves her 06 cr85. It actually seized a month ago and I thought we may have to scrap it. Turns out her piston broke and a chunk of it got in the crank. I broke it loose and got things moving freely again after a few hours. Now just rebuilding it little by little. I’ve watched your video over and over to get things right; just waiting for parts now lol. I appreciate the help!

Is there a top or bottom to the piston ring? I just threw it on and made sure it was around the pin like you said. Also, I only see one pin dowel in your video but stock shows I need two. Thank you for the help!

Was that a Wiseco piston? Curious why you didn't drill lubrication holes for the exhaust bridge? I'm hesitant to drill this new piston so searching for info.
@Schneb
3 жыл бұрын
Normally I would drill a hole, but the piston that was in it didnt have one and there was nothing in the listed instructions for this particular bike that said I should.
@JBennett530

@@Schneb Thanks for the reply and making the video it was still helpful for me, I suppose I'll take mine to the machine shop and have it done since instructions said to. I would have got a cast piston had I known about this extra step, drilling the piston isn't a problem but removing .003 off the exhaust bridge for expansion is beyond my skill level.

After the top end you can do a oil change and add fresh coolent right after you installed the top end?
@Schneb
Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, the oil change is just a good idea since you got it apart. As for the coolant it's basically empty at this point so you have to refill it regardless.

This video clear a lot of things up for me like which way the head gastket goes but one question which way does the ring go it looks square edger on both side so i dont think it matters i bought a weisco kit
@Schneb
3 жыл бұрын
The piston ring must be installed in a specific way. In the groove of the piston there is a small pin the ends of the ring align with that pin. If you install it without lining that up you will have a whole heap of trouble and cause some pretty serious damage. 2:22 show the pin alignment.

Hey, I'm starting my top-end kit rebuild now and was wondering do I have to torque wrench to spec or if can i just tighten them till snug? If not what drive measurement do you have on your torque wrench I don't wanna buy one and it's the wrong one. Thank you I appreciate your time!
@Schneb

3/8" drive will do just fine for 19-21 ft/lbs on the cylinder head. If it's not a tool you will use much try borrowing one or some stores will rent (borrow) them out and save you a few bucks.

I got a rebuild kit and to lube the piston can i use pre mix 2 stroke sythetic lubricant to lube the piston? Thanks

I usually just use regular ole 10w30, or any conventional motor oil. 2 stroke oil would probably be just fine though.

What type of hose goes into the engine part next to the spark plug on the left because mine is open and the hole part is exposed and I’m pretty sure it goes to the radiator I’m not sure
@Schneb
3 жыл бұрын
The one facing up goes to the top of the radiator, the one facing the back of the bike goes to the back of the water pump and the forward one on the water pump goes to the bottom of the radiator.

Hey do you remember the size of the piston? Also when I took off my nut for the top end my nut got stripped can I just go to Home Depot and replace it? Thank you this video was REALLY helpful!
@Schneb
Жыл бұрын
Thanks ! The stock piston is 47.44mm, as for the nut I believe its an 8mm (fine thread) could be wrong about the thread. You should be able to make do with a regular nut from a hardware store, but make sure you put a washer on it. the normal ones are flange nuts.
