Short and sharp, nice approach for a change up. The one thing that is often missing in these comparisons and difficult to ascertain is a weighting scale. For example, many consider "weight" as more important to engine performance. Although the Honda clearly wins in the weight department that might tip it over the edge for many buyers considering that brakes, engine, suspension etc is superior on the Himalayan. Why ? These items can be modified more easily then say shedding weight. Suggestion - Do a customer poll and produce a weighting scale.

The MT450 has a much better engine, it sounds better, it has significantly more power and real world power because you can revv the paralell twin much harder with zero vibration (it also has nearly zero vibration, compared to the pretty significant high speed vibration on the Himalayan). But the Himalayan is the best looking motorcycle on the market right now in 2024. It may be one of the top 15 best looking sport motorcycles ever made, on the level with the Kawasaki ZX-12R, the Ducati 916, the Tiger 800, 850 and 900 series, and the Africa Twin models. The Himalayan will have super high resell value, and won't lose value, because it already had a very good reputation with the 1st generation model, and is an established model. The MT450's only downside is that it has horrendously stiff suspension, and according to some reviews, the suspension simply does not work without significant modifications, because the dampening and rebound are way, way too stiff, for a normal weight rider. One professional rider said it bounced off of bumps instead of traveling over them. The MT450 suspension might actually loosen up from riding, because it's a new bike, and for a heavier rider (220 pounds or more) it might be the perfect trail bike. They might even change the valving on factory bikes after CF Moto hears some of the feedback about it being way too rough riding. The Himalayan is the perfect bike, except that it needs taller gears, because as a single cylinder, very long stroke engine, it is not geared to cruise above 60mph. The Himalayan has the longest stroke (3.4 inches) of any factory motorcycle currently on the market, in the category. It has an even longer stroke than the DR650 Suzuki (3.2 inches).

Everyone has their preferences, opinions, and expectations. For me, the choice would definitely be the Honda, for various reasons. Firstly, the Himalayan is 50 kg heavier, which is like riding with a passenger. Second, the Himalayan uses a stressed engine, which is not the best choice if rough terrain is the preferred type of adventure riding. Third, the Himalayan has no proven reliability and limited support globally. The rally is AU $1000 more than the 300 l at AU $7000 OTR. In Thailand. My choice would be the 300l, using the difference to improve the suspension rather than having that unnecessary plastic. Others may differ depending upon their opinions, but over 300 000 km of experience of non highway riding, mostly in third world countries, has taught me a thing or two.

It's not 50 kg heavier. It's 43 kg difference on kerb weight. I've ridden both, it's not like riding with a passenger, you don't notice it. In terms of stressed member, 80 of Asia ride with that design on some of the roughest roads on the planet. Limited support globally at this stage.

I think the Red Rooster is a wonderful motorcycle, but is lacking where it counts, horsepower and properly sprung suspension, seat height when sprung right. I’m in my late fifties, and am in the market for a lighter ADV bike that can maintain speed on the pavement comfortably and hit the dirt and gravel. Part of me wants T7 but reality says a 450 will do the trick without the extra cost. Royal Enfield and CF MOTO has really upped their game and mean business. I think Honda could smash this up and coming 450cc segment out of the park if they wanted to. However, they lost the chance with the renamed CB500X. With the name change should have been a major design change not a face lift for the NX500. The should have went the route of CF MOTO and their 450MT. Can you imagine a NX500 with a 270 degree crank, 200mm of properly sprung suspension travel, 800-820mm and 850-870mm seat height options, and 18-21” wheels, dedicated ABS/TC on/off switch, and cruise control? Why has Japan only given people single cylinder engines in their mid sized enduros? What people really want is a small, 2 or 4 cylinder engine, in a lightweight, small bike. This certainly wasn't the usual adventure video I'd expect from MAD, but I'll get on board... Vote 1 300 Rally! Me... a bias owner you say? No way!😆 I've taken my 300 Rally up some ridiculous enduro mountain trails with stock suspension. It'd be even more of a swiss army knife with suspension mods. Thats not to say the Royal Enfield isn't a great bike, i'd like to ride one! My gut feeling is if you're an enduro dirt rider looking to explore absolutely any bush trail, go the 300. If you're a road rider looking to explore dirt roads, the Himy is a great window into this realm.

Hi Just came around your video about your 690 associate for 12 years. I got a 950 I really love. But I’m thinking of getting something new. Probably a 690 or 790. I like the simplicity of it. So I’m divided between getting some safety features (ABS) or sticking with my old love. Because none of the newer one is lighter than mine. Or wait for a kove800x. Any suggestions from you or your community? cheers stefan
