I've had my CR-Z for 2.5 years. It's a 2014 base 6MT. I absolutely love this little car! It's mainly used for commuting and around town. The intake and exhaust are aftermarket and sound quite good. She puts down roughly the same number for HP and torque, 120 for both. Yes, I confirmed this on a dyno. Pros: great fuel economy, manual transmission, and good looks (mainly compliments on the North Shore blue pearl paint). Cons: no back seat (would it be big enough for adults anyway? no), terrible rear visibility (backup camera included), "disconnected" steering feel, and harsh ride over rough roads. The CR-Z can actually haul quite a lot too. I've had the back packed with nearly 30 bags of garden compost. She was sitting low but handled it no problem. Here's to hoping Honda makes the CR-Z again!

I would buy a CR-Z although I wish they would add the backseats instead of the storage compartments just seems a bit more practical with having extra seating whether they make it a 4 seat or 5 it would make it nicer to buy then the 2 seat

Looking at one of these now many years later for some reason - would be perfect if the backseats extended further into the trunk and still folded down when you need cargo space, but that would probably break safety standards or something.

@koolskater5 - The biggest visibility issue is actually the split rear glass. The seam/support between the upper and lower hatch glass takes some real getting used to and does block a clear shot at cars behind you - but it's the most direct carry over from the CRX. We recommend taking one for a test drive and you'll know pretty quick if it's something you could adapt to and accept.

The CRZ was made for people like me. It's a perfect little daily (with the manual) car for around town, fun back roads, and short trips. The engine setup is where I think hybrid stuff should be going! A traditional petrol engine with an electric boost to fill in the gaps and provide nearly instant urge. I've only been able to drive the CVT models this far as it was incredibly difficult to find a 6spd manual in the area. Now I'm back on the hunt again for one and they've become super cheap to boot. :) great little car

I got a 2014 manual and its up on power compared to the older one I can touch into the 7s at 0-60. and I don't seem to as easly run out of ima battery. also I have yet to pull into a gas station and have less then 42 mpg avg and have gotten up to 45 avg when epa says 31-39. as for traction a drive windy hilly country roads and the car feels very planted in sport mode and was still getting 43mpg. yeah I could have gone out and got an evo or sti but would have had the major down side of maybe 20 mpg and premium gas and high insurance, not to mention maintenance cost. yeah its price tag is a bit high but the prius costs 3 to 4000 more

My CRX averages about 48mpg and my record was 53.1mpg. It's not very refined at all but it's really fun to drive, even with the world's worst tires and brakes. My ideal would be a first-generation Insight. It's not quite as fast as the others in terms of engine, but I've read it's surprisingly sporty in the suspension and gets like 70 to the gallon.

i own the 2007 Honda Fit Sport. I love it, but this car is the clear update/upgrade over it. The fit seems boring when compared to this CR-Z. I hardly ever have 3 people in my car, even though I drive almost all my friends around all the time. For a work and daily use car, the 2014 CR-Z looks to be far better over all than even the Fit. In style. In function. In looks. Not including the new Fit EV. that gets points for not needing "a drop" of oil. However, it looks kinda lame or at least boring. CR-Z FTW.

People that say they didn't live up to a crx is wrong. It was never blindingly fast with a base engine. People swapped engines in crxs to make them fast. People just didn't think about these with a k20 in it.

It's pronounced FEE-ott. Also, in the CR-Z footage, you should not be driving on the wrong side of the road. That said, this was a fair evaluation of the CR-Z, in that it is not a star performer in either of the opposing arenas, but is very capable in both of them. Last note: By MY 2016, Honda had contented up this vehicle to make it an outstanding value, making the used market a buyer's dream. 6MT's (the only way to go) are hard to find but totally worth the wait.

If I may add if you are incline to purches one .. Due so pre owned ... The 2010-2012 are easy to mod the 2013-2015 just recently been cracked .. Avoid the 2016 ... No more hand brake .. Only brake button .. If that don't bother you I guess its fine ... But the main reason not to buy new ... The resale value drops hard .. You will pay 19-22k out the door and with in a month it will be valued at 15k ..

You are correct about asking who is this car for? The Civic gets better MPG to satisfy the Eco-drivers as well as the entry-level tuners. And the Accord V6 w/stick would blow the doors off the CRZ on the track. So I don't really get this car. Honda had a great compact sports car: the S2000, and they killed it. The CRZ won't be nearly as fun as the FRS or BRZ. The extra torque of the CRZ (from electric assist) would be nice at high altitude. The low torque and thinner air will make the FRS/BRZ less powerful charging up hills. BUT... the balance and RWD involvement of the Twins will be more fun in twisties any day, any time. And the FRS/BRZ will still get about 30 hwy mpg. We like the CRZ, it's surprisingly fun... but we'd say FRS/BRZ for you.

Guys, the 500 is not a sports car, is just a small stylish car to waft around town. If you want a sport car with this shape, wait for the Abarth EsseEsse version, almost 200 HP in less than 2000 lb. Its looks are a modern version of the original 1957 car, and I think the desing is pretty awesome compared to other ultra obvious retro shapes as Camaro and Beetle.

@Waltham1892

The CR-Z and Miata are very different cars. The Miata is not really a sports car and is more of a runabout. The CR-Z also isn't a sports car, its a commuter car with a little more pep in the sports setting. If you are looking at a 13 year old car, I'd say the CR-Z. Honda has bullet proof engineering and its likely to have been more gently driven than a Miata. Either way, have a mechanic check each car out.

IMHO they should offer the "hype-brid" powertrain as an option. They should use a K20 or something and make an Si model. No saying I'd buy it, but it would be more true to the CRXs of old. Oh and I say "hype-brid" because back when I drove a stock '97 Honda Civic 4-door automatic, I got about 35 mpg, mixed city/highway. 14 years later and we can't get that with a smaller, lighter "hype-brid", somethings wrong here.
