Where did you get the mount for the monoshock? I have a 79cx500 I just got back up and running and love the looks of this. Want to mimic with my own twist. Any major issues with the mono shock install?

The shock setup is my own concoction. Mounts were made from plate steel on both ends and welded directly to the swingarm and backbone. Trickiest part is finding a shock that has an appropirate stroke and a spring rate appropriate for the weight. This combination uses a Honda CBR954RR rear shock with a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650 rear shock spring.

What size are they?.......What about a proper throttle cable? What my source for that. Sudco is been my source for decades.

My 1980 cx500 is having issues accelerating and backfires when turning up on the accelerator when driving. Once its up at 5k rpms all is fine because I guess it gets enough fuel. The bike was parked for a few years so ran some carburetor cleaner and seafoam in the gas to try and clean things out, but now have this problem. Someone suggested it was the timing, but I don't know. Now the question is should I have the stock carbs rebuilt? or spend the $700 on a new set of carbs? maybe there is an easy fix I am missing. Old bike and a weekend driver, thanks

The stock carburetors are more than adequate enough to handle the bike and I would recommend getting them sorted out prior to making changes. Even on mine I went back to the stock CV's after a couple months riding with the VM's. Lower RPM poor performance tends to be cause my vacuum issues...either there's a blockage somewhere, most likely in the air jets or slow jets...it'd be best to take them off and give them a good clean.

@@ToysforWatts Thanks for the help, I think changing things up could also create more problems. This would be an easier and less expensive solution, cheers

Awesome bike. Are you running the stock size rear tire with this setup?

Thanks! I'm running a 140 on the back, the profile works better with the 120 I'm running on the front.

Does the kumi carbs make a difference??

They most certainly did with this bike! Albeit the stock carburetors were finicky and old and suffered a few problems of their own. If you got really healthy CV carbs the only thing you're going to see change is a smoother acceleration when wide open, but if you're stock carburetors are worn and failing then this is an easy and fun solution.

Do you have the link for those mikuni carbs?

I do not, sorry. They were carbs I had on the shelf from an old EX500 I use to race.
