In this video we replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch on a 2006 Honda Element. This does not require a new key or any keys to be reprogrammed. The tell tale sign that the switch is beginning to fail is a grinding or buzzing noise coming from the steering column. This sound is the contacts inside of the switch not fully making connection. It may do this for several months or sometimes only a few times before it completely fails. This is definitely a preventative maintenance repair as this switch had not fully failed yet. The owner did not want to discover a failed switch at an inopportune time and opted to have it replaced immediately with a new Honda Genuine part.
