To see the Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette race a ZR1 Corvette for a victory and then get taken down by a 10 second Buick Grand National was a treat. The 3.8 Turbo Anniversary Trans Am was unexpectedly quick. I learned how to powershift my Taurus SHO and SHOed a C43 AMG Benz that he could not beat me! I wish I had taken a picture back then. This year (2019) celebrates my 20 year 'love affair' with my Integra Type R. Every time I climb into the seat I feel a sense of excitement. My Integra is approaching 300,000 Kms, yet I have never touched the engine. I continue to drive it hard, often taking the rev counter to beyond 9,000 rpm. The naturally aspirated engine is the heart and reason for all this - something special! I have, over the past couple of years, thought about buying a new hot hatch, but my love affair is stronger than ever and she has never let me down. How can I part with something I love....

My 2019 Type R also has no fake sound, it has a good exhaust (Milltek Race Exhaust) for REAL sound. NA 4 cylinder is fun to rev but there is no TORQUE and TORQUE is absolutely neccessary. The K20C1 has the best of both worlds, likes to rev and has lots of torque.

15 years ago I was 21 when I bought an ep3 ctr, i drove it for 5 years without a single problem and enjoyed every second! Children then came and I reluctantly sold it and bought 5 door hatch backs. Focus, golfs all sorts, but nothing compared to the ep3. I soon realised I sold a very special car and it only had 40k on the clock. So I took it apon myself now the children are older to find and buy an ep3 in mint condition with 40k on the clock! I found one and had to pay the same as what I sold the old one for 10years earlier! It was the best thing I’ve ever done! Track days every 6 months awesome👌🏽best car ever

DC2 type r the legend. That car started much in small preformance. Honda wanted to make a statement, they did. You got to remember the time these cars were in development and when they hit the streets. I will say there was shock , envy and embarrassment with many manufactures. Then the real race was on and continues. Cheers

I utterly loved my ITR dc2. It is still the most affection I've ever had for a car. It had soul and brains and heart. I swapped it for a brand new S2000 which was also famous but the integra is the car I look back at with most fanaticism.

Still have mine bought from new 2000 No.480 in Oz. Only mod was the rear strutt stiffener added across the boot. At 5700 revs and above it's in the grenade zone.

This nearly brought a tear to my eye when I heard the VTEC kick in. :-) Oh, how I miss that sound, and that change of pace. I love my big lazy car, but every now and then I'd love my old Type R back for the day, or my even better my Prelude 2.2 vti Motegi. The 4WS on the Lude was just the icing on the cake for me..... Thanks for the memories guys :-)

Less is more. The feeling of the Integra and the character of the engine is intoxicating. Even in GS-R trim the integra is a blast if you can find a clean one.

90 era Japanese cars were in their best balance, be it style, comfort, drivability or performance. Now with this Integra Type R, the styling is definitely at its best too for being a sleek yet clean looker as compared to the over design with lines, angles Civic Type R.

How come it has the US style front end? Were the long headlights exclusive to japan?
@MrGrentch
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah Bolo the all in one headlights were Japan market only. The four round headlights front had been in Japan when the Integra(Mk3) first launched but around 95/6 they went to the long headlights across the range including the R. In the rest of the world(I _think_ Malaysia got the Japanese lights?) they stuck with the original four headlight setup for some reason. IIRC they had done surveys in various places like the US(which was a big market for the model. Largest outside Japan) and the survey said... we like the four round headlights. So Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand got those. They varied in other little details as well. The US spec examples didn't get the Recaro seats, Momo steering wheel(s), only had the titanium gear knob for one year IIRC, had slightly lower compression and the 15 inch wheels from the EK9 Civic Type R. Non Japanese examples also got a rear wiper which was not an option on JDM cars. The Americas did get the full centre console though. I've a 98 spec JDM and have been adding bits and bobs from other markets to make it a "World" R, so am a nerd about these things. :) I have the US centre console and Acura plate which is very cool :) and I'm on the hunt for a European rear bumper with foglight. I'd love the Americas only rear seats with the plastic tray/divider, though they're not exactly common to find. Only Japan got the yellow interior stitching and Recaros, except for a tiny run of Swiss only R's . They must be the rarest of all variants.

I've owned 3 different classes of honda engines. First was a very overbuilt gsr, stroked to 2.0liter, ported polished, built head, higher compression, knife edge crank job.. the whole nine yards. It made 226HP to the wheels, cannot remember the TQ. Second I owned a 98 ek 4 door with a 98spec b18c type R jdm engine and tranny, if I remember correctly this car put down just over 200HP to the wheels, probably 130TQ. Lastly I currently drive daily a k20a2 eg ; full bolt ons, it makes 223HP 167TQ to the wheels. It's really hard to say which was my favorite they all shined bright in their own categories.. The 2.0 built gsr mated to a very rare complete RSR exhaust system sounded the absolute best hands down, it made a lot of torque and had quite an insane sound above 7,000 rpm with the skunk pro 1 cams and victor X intake manifold. The type r swap ek was technically the slowest of the 3 but this combo and the transmission was probably the most fun to drive, and enjoy. The exhaust was a combo of all different brands but it had good rasp and would occasionally pop and bang with light deccel around 3.1k rpm, I loved that part.. Daily driving the k20a2 now it's a lot of fun, the main thing this granted me was highway access. I could never go above 80mph without feeling guilty in the other two cars given I would be at like 4,200 rpm or higher at that speed. I hated ringing the engine out like that even though I knew it could handle it. The K car is blisteringly quick and kind of scary with how high up there you can go, makes you drive on edge because a reckless ticket is always 1 second flat out away. All in all its really hard to pick a favorite. I may rank the K20a2 first, type r swap second, and lastly the built gsr eg hatch.

The 2019 Type R's 7000 RPM limit signifies the end of Honda engines. The LFA V10 was the greatest naturally aspirated engine to ever come out of Japan.

I could not agree more, in Canada it was known as the Acura Integra Type R, it was not sold as a Honda product, we took one in trade at a Chevy dealer i worked at in the early 90's and i always heard good things about them, when i drove this car hands down the best FWD car around and still to this day the best one. the stripped out interior meant one thing, speed and handling, long trips no way, they were loud and a tight ride, if you wanted that then you bought an Integra GS with the toys and touring suspension, another great car in itself

List price in 1998 in the UK was £19800 I think. My Teg is a 2000 car. The last ones were heavily discounted by the dealer to get them out of the doors! I am the second owner and have the original sales invoice which was for £15,000!

Today, I threaded the needle on a two lane corner between two slower cars and VTEC'd to 110mph rounding the corner. Thus putting the coil-overs and Goodrich G-force tires on my lowered GSR to good use!

Fabulous. Really interesting and a good onsight of what is actually a fabulous car. I really think someone needs to look at the 306 Gti 6 or 306 Rallye next. An absolute scorcher of a car. First 6 speed manual in a hot hatch, passive rear steering, a sprightly 167bhp, steering feel, and a chassis that will take the twisties like not many others to be honest.
