@theyermany yep, fabrication of small plastic parts like these is an increasing necessity. 3d printers and CAD make that easier but a bit of old fashioned machining can go a long way. Especially if you can make a longer lasting part than the OEM plastics.

As far as I know Honda is the only one that makes just the arms while aftermarket companies like Dorman only make the whole wiper transmission assembly and they're nearly as expensive as the dealer anyway. I actually got lucky because Canadian Tire deals with an aftermarket company called "Certified" and they do make wiper transmission assembly's extremely cheap and they're even painted too! I picked up a whole wiper transmission for my 2000 TL for only 60 bucks and even has a 2 year warranty to boot!

I've done this on my Subaru. You can plug the motor back in without bolting everything back together, turn the wipers on then off. Wipers always go back to the down position. Also, I had an issue where the assembly wasn't oriented properly so the wipers were going backwards (towards the engine lol). This can help you avoid assembling and removing several times.
@hdfbrider32
4 жыл бұрын
Can this be performed without unbolting the motor from the arm first. The arms currently are not exactly in the ready position and I was afraid if I cycled the motor it might damage the new linkage
@tawidave7092
4 жыл бұрын
@@hdfbrider32 As I mentioned above, once you pull the wipers off, you can just turn them on (intermittent). You'll see when it's gone back to the down position. Then turn key off. When you reinstall everything, just make sure you install the wipers in the down position. I neglected to take note when I did it, and the wipers went went towards the wing mirror lol Make sure you check that everything is working the way it should, before you put everything back together (another one of my mistakes)
@tawidave7092
4 жыл бұрын
@@hdfbrider32 also, yes you can do this with the motor attached. It's all part of the assembly. Just make sure the motor is plugged in when you test

Thank you for this video. Because of this video, I was able to fix my Honda Accord. I too had to buy the parts from Honda directly. I paid just under $28 ($14 a piece). The arms popped off the first time I snapped them on. In other words, I didn't have them snapped on all the way. So...I had to do this repair twice. So far so good. I have used the wipers and they no longer hit the side of my car nor do they "hop" across the windshield. Again, thank you for posting this video. It was really helpful and saved me probably $200-$300.

Pro tip: Sharpie lines on the windshield where the wiper blades should be at rest position before disassembly. Makes reassembly easy and idiot-proof. What a difference a pandemic and rampant inflation makes The two rods in this video were less than $30 for the pair. Now (2024) they're about $56. Try as I might, I cannot find these individually for my Acura 2002 TL Type-S. I can only find the full linkage (which includes everything he removed under the cowling except the motor; not just the rods) to the tune of almost $200. Figures. If anyone knows where I can get these rods individually kindly leave a comment in reply. thanks!

Funny how the honda has a conainted unit for the wipers like that. On my nissan it's a more usual system with the motor bolted to the fire wall and the linkage bolted below the windscreen. I'm currently waiting for a new spindle as the plastic housing the spindle has worn away from use over the years. I should ask my dealer if he can get the part new but I think it'll be expensive. I found a Nissan oem retailer online selling them for £40 each. I've bought lesser used units for £15 a pair.

Looking good again and easy with your tutorial :-D A frends car had slightly worse, one of the plastic cups was so worn that the arm just fell off, my nasty bodge was to find a clear plastic bag and stretch it over the ball, then push the cup back on, it took the play up. He got home in the rain with wipers, that was last year,and its still working, too good a bodge lol.

Probably a stupid question, but I own a 2018 hr-v ex l nav. The vehicle seems ok but Im used to my truck. The problem I am having is the roads in town are super fked.. Is there anyway to get some better after market suspension on this vehicle and is it possible to lift the vehicle about 1 inch with those spacers they sell now? I noticed them when i owned a 19 colorado I wanted to level the trucks suspension and noticed they were selling spacers to do that. I sold the truck before I did it because the transmission after 30k was doing some odd shifting and locking up on me.. The reason for the lift on the honda is to create more room in the wheel well. The reason Id like to see more room is because this past winter the ice and snow buildup around the tire/well/mudflap was fucked.. I never had a problem like that on my 19 colorado or my 07 colorado. Maybe I am just not use to these small cars.. I would love to get some kind of rancho suspension on this vehicle to absorb these rough roads better. I live in sault ste marie ontario and the roads are simply fucked.. I drove semi's all over NA and never experienced roads this bad.. You might be wondering why I am watching this video on wiper arm repair, well, the wiper link broke too so I was curious how hard it would be to fix..
