I have a CM250c, basically the same engine with older heads. Only get 70mph, and 80 with exhaust baffles out. I just put the Nighthawk head on it and it does 85 flat out now. Thinking I can do 90 without exhaust. Not going to bother though, too noisy. Great little engine though.

These bikes may never take on hayabusas, though with a handfull of small/incremental performance mods, you can certainly get it to a 90mph top speed with solid power behind it. It must depend on elevation as well, my 94 CB250 would only go 70mph on avg stock. Changing sprockets and bolting on a headlight windshield made an IMMENSE difference! 15t/30T is the way to go IMHO. With that setup, I now get 65mph in 4th gear! and can cruise highway no trouble I will definitely be up-jetting, perf air filter, plugs, and poss xhaust baffle removal. Beyond that, may opt for the big bore kit and dual carb setup.

I have the same bike, very nimble. Always a little scared of the wind though. It gets pretty windy where I live.

having a windshield will definetly improve your drag coeficient. most likely your top end could increase few more mph. anyway nice video.

how does one increase top end?

With the limited power the 250 makes, decreasing drag or wind resistance can help the little bike get to a slightly higher top speed. I've got the same bike, a small windscreen would help some I think.

did you do any engine tuning, timing advance, premium fuel, etc? I can only reach low 70s on mine, and that's on a flat and tucked in.

I have been on a few big rides the last few days. mine does ok. would love to have a bit more power and top speed. but heck they run on the smell of an oily rag. my next bike is definitely going to be at least a 650

What is the maximum cruise speed you think the bike feels comfortable with? I've thinking to get one to commute and need to be sure if it feels ok in the highway. Thx

I avoid the Interstate as much as possible. I can cruise on the highway at 55-65 MPH without having to keep the throttle locked, but there's not much power left in reserve. It's also really light (barely over 300lbs) - you feel the wind blast from big trucks a lot. It's a fun little bike, but if I had to ride a lot of Interstate mile, I'd probably want something heavier with more throttle at high speeds. A Nighthawk 650/700/750 would be good for that.

Dylan Morse. Agreed. On a small highway/byway 60mph all day long at 80mpg. Fairly comfortable too. I avoid big divided four lanes. 65 is the highest very stable speed on such a light bike, plus all the truck wash or when you get hit by a crosswind trying to keep it at 70. It was designed as a city commuter and a scenic, twisting highway bike. It does that better than most. A bug screen makes all the difference in wind resistance though. 6'4" and 200lbs. I can get it easily in the 70s on a flat cruise.

Or he rebuilds his carb and changes his oil,air filter etc… cause I have a jetted cm250c that has a overall lower performing engine and I can reach 80 on a long enough flat working the throttle getting the cv carb to open up a little more takes me from 75 to 80 mph I have a cold air/ram air experimental intake, and I stepped up all of my jets as well as opening the exhaust up some though I am still toying with that a little bit, trying to figure out the right amount of back pressure. I would really like to find some higher pressure valve springs, but I think I’m just gonna do the night hawk head conversion next… so I can just get performance valve springs for that easier to find anyway…

This bike responds well to mods,i ordered a kit from Carbjetkits,#130 main two sizes up on slow pilot and added 3 shimms to the needle, added a K&N air filter (universal) and removed the baffles,i can easily hit 80mph with some throttle still left i think i can hit 90mph but the winds are too strong, with taller gearing maybe more.i forgot i weight 200 pounds.

forgot your original question these bikes are set to run lean so just going up one size on the main jet will cure that, and solve cold starting,i hardly need the choke.you can try and enrich the mixture but need to remove the limiter on the screw.good luck.love the bike!!

+Devender Singh yup but you need to rebored piston kit and take off the airbox and change jet on carburater, modified with air filter and breathe filter and hide battery will change new performance. I rode this cb250 damn fast cruising longer distance.
