I built this cart using a combination of a free golf cart and a $150 2005 TRX250ES Honda Recon Es with the help of some old junk I had laying around the house
Lol! Originally thought of using my Kawaksaki Bayou 300 engine and entire drive train to build a 4WD golf cart, but I choose a different path. Had a couple of the old Ezgo's laying around with the old 250cc 2 Strokes in them. The one thing I disliked about them was the fact they didn't have a shiftable reverse gear. They used the starter to start the engine in reverse rotation, which works, but because of this, the ignition timing going forward can't be advanced like it should be, they require a neutral position for the ignition timing. So once I got these 2 Strokes apart, I realized they looked awfully familure to something else I've worked on in the past? And after some research found out that the Manufacturer Fuji Industrial who produced the EZGO engines under Subaru/ Robin name, that they also produced for many other companies too! One of which is Polaris, that's where I saw these engines before, same bores and strokes 72mmB 68mmS I believe is the numbers? But even the gaskets were identical to Polaris as was EZGO Marathon 3PG engines. So I ventured to Ebay and bought a piston ported jug of a Polaris 488cc engine being it's half a 244 which Polaris calls their "250cc" engine displacements. It bolted right on the Ezgo bottom end, doing away with the reed valves, I didn't know what to expect for power? To my surprise, using a 28mm Mikuni slide and basically making it a hybrid of sled/golf cart and using the guts out of the Comet primary and playing around with weights and springs on the primary and secondary clutches, for a little 244cc with a expansion pipe off a Polaris 250 ATV, the thing is beyond impressive! It will easily break the 20x11" rear tires lose on pavement and plant you and your passenger in the seat! If you're looking for top end speed? And utilizing say a original Ezgo TXT rear end? Highly recommend you do a gear swap to a lower gear ratio. The OEM 13:1's are great for towing and around the yard working and they do get up and go! I'm not saying they don't? But if you wish to not be running the engine at around 6-8K all day and want to cruise on the asphalt with speeds above 40mph? Then I would have to say put a good set of gears in these things! They sell a 10:1, 8:1 and a 6:1. I think 8:1 is about as perfect for still having good acceleration and decent top end speeds above 45mph without beating the hell out of your engine. Unless you're using say a V twin briggs or harbor freight engine that is a 4 stroke and is much more torquey...... I would have to go with the 6:1's for something like that. But awesome projects and nice to see I'm not the only nut case on KZitem that is making a golf cart doing things they were never intended to do Lol. Good luck with your projects and thanks for posting this video. Hopefully this and the information supplied will help someone else out. There's very little information about this topic and most people don't care, if you've seen some of these projects? Looks like a motorcycle or snowmobile threw up into the golf carts! LMFAO! Personally I like to put a little effort into making something I'm building IDK? Look like it could have come this way from the factory, but most of these messes are just that, a hack-job mess that barely works. Took me probably a good month to get the clutches dialed in so they would work properly with the gear ratio changes and the additional power increases. This is something that anyone rarely pays any attention to unfortunately, but then get frustrated with how it under performs and gives up on their projects. That's exactly how I ended up with the TXT I now have, someone did a sad attempt at swapping in a Skidoo twin cylinder sled engine and the butchery was scary to see?! SMFH, LOL!

About time I found something like this on here...I'm still putting mine together....not golf cart....was a Kawasaki mule ( burnt in a fire)... I'm using my quad to drive it now....I do have a question for you....how did you hook up your shifter from the quad foot lever?

Very cool! My original idea was to use my Kawasaki 300 bayou 4wd as a doner vehicle and make my Ezgo fully enclosed for plowing in the winter rater than the atv. It sucks getting snowed on while freezing to death. For now though I rebuilt the Ezgo with a heavily modified 244 2 stroke from a older marathon cart. Much better than the original 4 strokes the TXT came with! But on the bench Rt now I have a brand new Briggs Vanguard 20hp V twin with a few mods and a Turbo sitting there awaiting its new home on the engine. Hopefully to be making around 40-50hp reliably! Is the goal! Once tested for stability the V twin and a set of high speed 6:1 gears are going in the TXT. The stock gears are great for pulling stumps and overweight golfers around, but not for my taste! As it sits now with the modified 2 stroke on the flat wide open goes 43. But I don't want to have to rev it to the moon just to cruise at a nice speed above 20 mph. So the cure is 570ccs of turbocharged power and a much lower gear ratio! Should have plenty of power and speed then. Otherwise I love seeing people build awesome shit like this! Great job man!
