Thanks for making an awesome video. Bought a metro that wasn't running and tried all the basic things first. Someone said valve lash and I had never done it before. Found this video and made it super easy. Thanks!!!

Thanks very much for the video. I'm 60 with many years of motorcycle riding, and more recently, scooter riding. I didn't know that adjusting shim type valves could be this easy. On some motorcycles, you actually have to remove the cam to replace the shims. I have done my share of adjusting valves with screw type adjusters, but never shim type yet. I could handle a Ruckus of Metro due to your fine video.

Great video well done thank you! Question: My plug is fouling and I’ve adjusted the carb don’t think it to rich. Also did a compression test. and I get 140psi then added a little oil and got 190psi. I first assumed rings were bad but I haven’t checked valve lash. I will but wondering if improper valve lash could cause this compression variation or since adding oil to better seal the rings mean for sure the rings are bad Irrespective of valve lash?

*My '08 'Metro' starts and runs flawlessly at 13,800-miles* _________ *Should I check the valves?* ( *I may as well order the shim-kit in advance of any take-down and yet the engine runs perfect and will haul my 230lb. fat-ass at 42-mph with only minor performance parts & 14-inch windscreen to create 'smoother air-flow' at 'WOT' speeds* ) __________ *I've owned and ridden this machine for 65-months and it still starts instantly and idles perfect and I use only the highest octane I can get...usually 92-93, plus a spoonful of 'Octane Booster' on a full tank and full-synthetic 10-40 engine oil* *I have yet to ever see anything in the 'crankcase breather tube'*

I have no clearance on the intake and its a 2020 with 200 miles, not even .002 of an inch, how could this have happened? I don't think I have a feeler small enough to get between the rocker and the shim, its top dead center as verified by pulling spark plug and touching screw driver to piston through the hole, I guess I am ordering the kit but something seems off here. My shim says 2.02 on the intake and a 1.98 on the exhaust. Couldn't get any clearance on the intake and the exhaust I forced a .005 feeler in there, ordering shim kit.

New to scooter & have a Q- 2014 Met. with 8,000 miles & on hard acceleration , the engine sound like marbles rolling around inside. Could it be that it needs the valves adjusted. ? An answer to this question/ problem would be extremely appreciated. Nicely done, comprehendable vid. with no crap music in the backround, & narrated in a profeccional way. Thank You .

For the exhaust valve did you rotate the engine to a complete 360? 180? or you just left the two - - aligned?

Thank you for the video. Going to try on my 4-stroke Zoomer. All looks about the same, just 4 valves instead of 2. And more fiddly with less room. Update....shims out and ordered. Hope it starts now.

Great vids, have to adjust my valves so I’ll def be watching again. Odd question but is there no gasket on the valve cover head?
@areomyst
3 жыл бұрын
It's not an odd question at all. There is a gasket yes. It's kind of like a big o-ring that fits on the valve cover and it should be replaced. You can reuse the old on in a pinch - but if I were to update this video I'd include proper gaskets! The part number for the gasket is 12391-GET-000. There is also an o-ring to replace, part number 91304-HA5-003. Thank you for you comment Dawaka. Ciao!

Well, pulled it all apart. no clearance between the shims and the...errr...rocker arms? Finally managed to get out old shims. all 4 were 2.2 mm so replaced with 2.3 for in and 2.45 for the exhaust. Not sure that is the cure to my noisy engine because when I turn it over, with good spark, oil in engine, etc, it just seizes. A little turn with a torque wrench on the variator frees it easily enough but sounding terminal. Any ideas?

possible you have a bent valve. but then again you probably fixed it already seeing as this question is 4 years old.

How often do you need to to a valve adjustment on a honda ruckus? I had mine proffessionally done by certified honda technicians at 700 miles, 1500 miles, 4,200 miles, and yet again at 5,000 miles. They keep getting tight. Why is that?

Definetley deserve more views and likes. I'm about to remove the head of a Honda Dio (same engine). As I'm putting it back on, should I look for the marks on the timing you just shown, ot there are other ones?

Like your video. My 08 ruck is starting to bog pretty bad when I gas it from a complete stop. (but only when it's HOT and I've been riding it for a few) Got 2000 miles on it. Could I have blown a valve or have valve problems? Thanks!

It’s a overflow or something for oil, it goes into the air finger box or something. It should have much oil in it, may be a sign of having too much oil? Oh this is a five year old comment, lmao

Shafi Mohammad repairmanual.com is my favorite source for new manuals. I have pretty good luck with local used book stores and eBay for used ones that are just as good for the purpose.
Ok, so...this what you get when dental technicians try and fiddle with things that they know nothing about. Should have put in smaller shims apparently. Buggered....probably.
