Two of my friends have XR250s, with inverted forks. I had a new xr150. The 250 was light years better despite the age. Suspension, engine power, clearance, peg position - all was better on the 250. The "new"150 is OK for a leisure trail ride, but no where near as good off road than an old XR250.

Thanks for the video and proper off-road thrashing! We shoud be receiving these bikes in the USA in the next couple of months (around April 2023), and I'm looking forward to adding one to my stable. You did surprisingly well in that deep sand! That stuff is extra tough on small bikes that don't have enough power to loft the front wheel. Did you notice any bending in the handlebars or levers after your drops? Other owners/reviewers have mentioned that the OEM bars bend easily, so they upgraded to proper MX bars and full-frame handguards. Cheers, and good luck growing your subscribers (I'm number 60)! 😉👍 --QM

David that was a good review of the Honda XR150L. I currently own this motorcycle and use it as my daily ride in Mexico. The bike is bulletproof, reliable, very economical on gas and it is decent in an off road environment. Is it comparable to a KTM 500 EXE? Of course not but the bike once outfitted with a set of wrap around handlebar protectors, better skid plate and a decent set of tires like Dunlop 606 - then it will eagerly play in the dirt environment. This bike is an amazing bike, it does not match my Ducati Panigale for speed but the Honda XR150L always puts a smile on my face when I ride it. Regarding the sand you were riding in, deep and loose would have challenged any bike, the tires on your test bike were as much a problem as was a lack of horsepower at times. Keep the reviews coming - I especially like the drone footage!!!

Since I retired a couple of years ago (and my car was stolen before I got to insure it : ( my identical 2015 Honda XR150, has been my daily transport, weekend (shorter) adventure bike, (one of 3 bikes) lesson training bike. I've taken it through the Baviaanskloof (here in South Africa) twice (both directions) and even did a 650km road trip. It's happy to cruise at (an indicated) 90km/h while achieving 40km/L. My rear end required frequent stops (on the latter road trip) I bought it in 2020 with just under 6000km on the clock, and it almost has 20000km on the clock now. Other than the usual maintenance, (oil changes, spark-plug, air filters, one set of tyres, chain & sprockets, all of which I've done myself, it hasn't missed a beat. I paid less than the equivalent of $1K (R16500) for mine as it needed a bit of attention (fork seals, a broken front brake lever and some surface rust, all of which was sorted myself) There are times when I wish it was more powerful but that usually means more weight and seat height, which I don't want off-road.

This is a farm bike, it can do most of the things any motorbike can do wether off-road or on tarmac. Simply, it has limited power and cannot achieve same performance as big bikes. I use it in Philippines for short trips on all terrains and it is better than what it looks on paper as it is very nimble and stable. Even a difficult single track can be achieved as long as you don't expect it to show power. The stock tires are not that bad as they are decent everywhere even in light mud. This is a perfect bike to do long rides in Asia whatever it is as long as you are not in a hurry. I wouldn't mind to use in Himalaya thanks to the rock solid honda built. The advantage is the fact it is simple and there are very few things which can go wrong. This is an economy bike which means no gas indicator, no gear light, no abs, only 5 speeds, antiquated carburetor, dent shock absorbers but really good to go nearly everywhere. I have been laughing at adventure bikes and even offroad with it on gnarly mountain ruts, this shows how good it is. Still, for long rides i have a Versys which is far better on tarmac thanks to the power but, when i am on a trail, i prefer XR.

Great video! I just sold my BMWF750, just too big and heavy, I've been riding a DRZ400 for about 11 years and will keep it for long highway rides & on-off road as it will cruise 70-75 with ease but thinking I might want this for a 2nd bike, little lighter, trying to improve my dirt skills and my husband likes to ride my DRZ as well. Up here in Yosemite, we have a lot of hard-packed rocky dirt with ruts. There are several other lighter dirt bikes but I want a street-legal bike. If I didn't have the DRZ, I would probably go with the new lower CRF300LS. That deep sand got me on my DRZ, I broke a rib last year, now I just take the Polaris RZR LOL! I wonder about that rear brake though on the XR150? People complain about stopping power, I usually downshift and use compression but I live in the land of narly paved curved roads, there are no straight roads. Moto heaven! So, thoughts on brakes?
@davidlogasi1835
Жыл бұрын
Hi Yosemite, thanks for watching and for your comment. The front disk brake on the Honda xr150l is sufficient, in my opinion. There is no ABS, and the rear drum brake also does a good job. In terms of breaking power on the rear brake, you can fairly easily lock the wheel, which is an indication of sufficient braking action. Engine braking is good as well, but it could be slightly tricky as there is no slipper clutch, and therefore, if you drop to a too low gear, it will cause a tire skid. I hope that I have managed to answer your question. There is a huge difference in power between the BMWF750 to the Honda XR 150L, and yes, the Honda will induce confidence in the off-road due to its light weight. I would recommend booking a test ride with the dealership.

I agree with you as well. The motorcycle on the review is a 2015 model that I bought for less than 800 USD, so I think that for the price, it's doing pretty well.

I don't know, my dealer got an alotment of 3 and 2 are presold as of a week ago. My wife if 5'4" and though she can ride her 400 ninja she feels way out of her comfort zone on my 250l. I think many shorter people who want to try some lighter off road riding will give it a go. I'm glad there is going to be something shorter and gravel road ready and street legal for her to join me in my adventures!

@@geraldburmeister9637 it's not for shorties. It sits high. I'm 5'11 and can almost flatfoot it. Seat height is 32.5 inches, according to Honda.

@geraldburmeister9637 Hi Gerald, I think that it can be a good idea to book your wife a test drive with the dealer. I also tried to introduce my wife initially to the BMW G650GS, which was not the best idea as she felt intimidated by its weight. When I introduced the Honda XR 150L, she was happy to ride it.

The price is different in every country. You can expect to pay 2800 USD for a new one. On the used market, you can find them for around 1000 USD.

It was struggling at low speed at the deep sand. Possibly due to my riding technique and not so great tyres for this type of terrain, but once you gain some momentum, it goes pretty well.

Looks like a sleeved down XR 200. I had a 1999 xr200 and with a few mods it made an excellent off roader.
