It’s actually pretty ironic because the quote about “a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff” is actually FROM Blink. It’s in the scene where Tennant’s Doctor is describing the way Weeping Angels work via the video-taped message.

And I apologize if someone else has said this already but... worth mentioning that even though John Barrowman (Jack Harkness) plays an American on Doctor Who, he's not actually American either. He's Scottish. He just went to an American high school so, he picked up the accent. So, the exception to the no Americans rule is not an exception! Haha! The only American companion, actually, played by an American in the whole Doctor Who history was Grace from the 8th Doctor TV movie. And to answer the favorite episode question, I really love "A Christmas Carol" (it was the episode that sucked me into Doctor Who in the first place)!

The eleventh hour is my favourite episode because it’s an amazing introduction to the doctor, and my favourite dr, but it’s also the start to the best series in new who ( in my opinion). And the first time I ever watched it was when I was around nine and I was sad Tennent had gone but as a nine year old little girl it was like a fairytale but in dr who! and smith plays the dr very childish, which, when watching as a child, really made me love him. So all of that together just made the most amazing episode of dr who for me (and it always will be).

Though Blink is my favorite episode of Doctor Who, I do not recommend watching it first, while I do agree that it does help people understand time travel in the simplest way possible, it does not have the doctor in it, nor is it like almost any other episode with the scary factor, no other episode has truly scared me, not even the other weeping angel episodes. I would suggest watching it in order straight from Eccleston.

The Weeping Angels episode was GREAT but it's very un-Doctor Who like. The sonic screw driver was used pretty well early on although RTD took abusing how much they rely on it to a whole new level. Which is pretty inexcusable considering they had it 'destroyed' in the classic series because writers were being lazy and relying on it too much. He should have known better.

The author of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams, before writing it as a novel, originally pitched it as a radio series to the Doctor Who production office then became script editor for the show for Season 17 (during the Fourth Doctor's era). He wrote 3 serials. If you watch the first one, The Pirate Planet, you will notice a *very* HHGTG feel to the entire story, along with lots of similar themes and styles of humor in the rest of the season, as well as underlying the entire show.
@ReelRejects
6 жыл бұрын
Oh, damn! Definitely gonna have to go back and check out those episodes. Seems like a pretty good fit haha
@gluuuuue
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you're considering checking out any Classic Who, watching entire seasons is more of a completionist strategy. But you can also try watching just interesting stories that are either significant and/or just great standalone stories that are representative of a particularly Doctor, like Four. The Pirate Planet is 6 half-hour eps, but a lot of Classic tends to have comparatively much slower pacing than modern Who (in the same way most television from the '60s and '70s can feel like it drags compared to modern tv). You'll miss some season arc continuity bits, but those don't end up being super important unless you're *really* into understanding the details of that continuity. So even the multi-part serials, of which most of Classic is and corresponds roughly to modern 2- or 3-parters, are themselves fairly episodic and self-contained stories. Also, the entire Hinchecliffe era (named for then producer Philip Hinchecliffe) consisted of a lot of very dark, even for then, stories and themes of the gothic horror variety, that was not unlike say '70s Scooby Doo. But it was considered so dark, the show got a backlash of angry, moralist parents who demanded everyone "think of the children".

This woman seems only to be familiar with the Moffat era, which is when it got self-referential and self-revering and the screwdriver turned into a computerized magic wand, and the rules no longer seemed to matter. This video was Moffat-era heavy because that's when it got utterly ridiculous. I would never have someone start with Blink. The Doctor is barely even in it. It's not very representative of most of the series. People should always start with a series opener, if not with Eccleston's Rose.
