I think the problem (except for multiple plot holes) is that everyone expects action from a Marvel movie but here we didn't get it much, instead we got a movie focused on Tony Stark dealing with his trauma after almost dying in space. It was more about the character's psychology than other Marvel movies, and a lot of people didn't expect that and that made them disappointed. When you're hyped for a certain type of movie and find out you're watching a different genre, you're not gonna enjoy it that much. Plus Mandarin.

@EricLucero

marcozx135 Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are Avengers characters. Scarlet Witch was a long standing Avenger. They appear in X-Men comics because they are mutants and Magneto's children, most often Quicksilver as a villain. Later Quicksilver turned good and joined X-Factor for a time. None of this really matters however because Fox has so royally screwed up the X-Men movies that they can pretty much do whatever they want with them and not stray any further away from the lore of the comics.

His PTSD was the 'best' feature of this film tbh. Like he's actually a normal human, unlike say Thor. Plus he's the one the got thrown out into space in Avengers and as someone w/ anxiety (tho not PTSD) how he reacted was actually really accurate and, well, honest. And his suits were poorly made and rapid out of stress and something to preoccupy the mind. The assembly scene we see is actually just one of the many others he created just like that. He still has to test each suit though... that's what he was doing.

Despite disagreeing with the criticism, I can respect their viewpoints. It's when people criticize Tony Stark for having vulnerability and depth in the movie instead of being a walking penis that really makes me question some comic book fans. I went to see Iron Man but instead I got this. The first two were good, they had excellent character development and lots of action. This was just boring, Tony having some sort of anxiety issues (what?) the main villain, one beloved by fans, was turned into, nothing, hell he was actually really, really cool, but no let's just say fuck off to everyone, his suits were stupid why would he not keep using his old ones? they were just fine, worked perfectly, and didn't you know, suck. The kid was unnecessary and stupid, pepper should have just been written out of the plot, and where the fuck where to other Avengers to help in this National emergency? I can understand no Hulk or Thor, but Captain America? Hawk eye? Black Widow? Random shield agent? Anyone?! What the hell? We have a group of supervillains with fire powers and they are just going to write that one off as nothing?
@ThejusRao
10 жыл бұрын
ttv0 Tony Stark IS Iron Man. The first one was excellent, but the second was meh. Tony's anxiety issues were directly linked to the battle of the Avengers. Atleast the others had fought battles before, but Stark was just "normal". If we had been in his place, finding out about aliens, gods, going through a wormhole, we'd be having PTSD as well. The main villain would've never worked. Even if they retained the Mandarin as the villain, what would be his motive? His back story? His powers? His reasons for attacking Stark? Face it, Mandarin would never have worked. Don't tell me that they should adopt the story from the comics, because that one is the worst CB I've ever read. His old suits were destroyed when Killian destroyed his home. Since he had PTSD, he concentrated on just keeping his mind occupied, via the suits. Otherwise, he'd have made a proper one that doesn't fall apart. The kid was unnecessary, I admit, but not stupid. He behaved how a normal kid would behave. Remember, only Stark and Rhodey knew about the Mandarin and Killian. The whole world was oblivious to that, and thought that the Mandarin was an actual terrorist. It is the duty of the US to interfere, not SHIELD. SHIELD only takes care of high profile stuff, not a common terrorist attack.
@ttv0
10 жыл бұрын
Thejus Rao after Tony was attacked and presumed dead, SHIELD would definitely get involved in some way, and because SHIELD is extremely efficient in finding things they would have discovered the Mandarin, I can enjoy Tony without his suit in fact that's some of his best moments but they just didn't do it right, he wasn't that traumatized when it happened in fact he took everyone to go eat some shawarma right after, I get adding some realism but come on that is just ridiculous, it was an unneeded plot point that didn't really add anything. Have you ever read any comics on the Mandarin? He is one of the biggest and most recognised of Iron Mans Villains and they just ruined him, which sucks because before he seemed so cool. They could tell his back story easily by tying the Aliens in. And if it was too much to have him in the story right now then don't fucking add him, Killian could just use someone else for his plan and not tell all of us fans to fuck off.

As a long time Iron Man fan, I liked this movie a lot. It seems like the honest trailer guy isn't much of an Iron Man fan at all (which is fine, everyone looks at movies differently), but for me, the decision to film so much of the movie without the suit is what makes it an Iron Man movie, not the other way around. The best Iron Man stories are about Stark getting everything taken away from him, the suit, the money, everything, and then finding a way to return using nothing but ingenuity and willpower. The movie realized this. In addition, the decision to make the Mandarin a clever commentary on how image affects our perception of threat is not only pretty meta and relevant, it's by far more interesting than the rather bland racist caricature that is Mandarin in the comics.

Then at the end, when you think he's finally going to nut up and take care of business, he just gets his ass kicked...again, and his armor falls apart...again. Then Pepper has to come in and steal his thunder; which she does in seconds. Where's my payoff? You don't just start the hero off at his lowest point and then keep him there the whole time.

You guys have to take off the hate goggles if you think Iron Man 3 was worse than IM2. This movie has probably had the best characterization and development of Tony Stark and shows him off at his best. He's still the same funny and witty Iron Man from Phase 1, but is still shaken by events that completely traumatized him, which is 100% justified and very well done. Albeit being an Iron Man movie, I liked how this movie focused more on Tony and his capabilities rather than the suit- hell, that theme was even remarked by Tony at the end. Really, the only reason IM3 is hated is for The Mandarin twist, but I can't believe half the people who complain about it even care for the comics. Iron Man was unknown before his movie, and his rogues gallery weren't- and still aren't- easy to recognize at all. Marvel doesn't even have a strong overall rogues gallery overall to start with, with the exception of Thanos, Doom, Magneto, and Venom- they don't have villains the same way DC has a Lex Luthor or a Joker. Point being- even if The Mandarin was Iron Man's archnemesis, he's no Joker, no huge villain- and Marvel has the right to mix up the characters they got. Aldridch Killain made for a good antagonist of the movie, despite his weak motives and white man in business suit Marvel villain #7. Hell, Aldridch being behind everything makes him even a stronger antagonist in my eyes. Overall, it was a solid movie, and by far beats Iron Man 2 in entertainment and story strength. It's almost up there with Iron Man 1 imo.
@kieran10202
9 жыл бұрын
+Edventures IM3 is hated for more than just the mandarin twist. It is hated for betraying the realistic, grounded tone of the first two movies in favour of some tim burton, adam-west-batman style story. If you that's an exaggeration, just listen to the credits music. It's like no one told shane black about the last 25 years of movie progress. Iron Man has some great villains: there's MODOK, Crimson dynamo, the controller, blizzard, technovore, take your pick of those. and the Mandarin should be a great villain: a 5000 year old supergenius with mage-like powers who wants to send the world back to feudal times could be a worthy end to the iron man series. Tony's PTSD makes no sense, just imagine an iron man 3 where tony doesn't have PTSD from his trip through the wormhole, can you honestly say you'd question it? no, because it would make perfect sense for him to be fine, especially when he's nearly died twice in the series already and come out just fine. I do NOT want to see iron man mcgyvering his way out of situations. In the first film he builds a nuclear reactor out of scraps in a cave, in the second, he creates a new element in his garage, and the step up from that is... a homemade taser and cherry bombs? This story is way, way below Iron Man 2 in terms of entertainment and story strength. Iron Man 2 deals with the dark side of making it to the top: people's lives get ruined and people have to live in your shadow. The film explores more of the iron man mythos and keeps it all personal to tony. In IM3 the villain comes out of nowhere with no link to the main character (and doesn't even NEED to make himself known to the hero at all, but does anyway.) and is dispatched, it's filler, plain and simple.

most of the movie is just tony talking about his "sickness" of the avengers events, there is almost no action scenes that was worth remembering, and all the cool iron man suits that you see in the trailer only show up for 5 seconds at the most in the movie. And then (spoiler alert) it made Tony just a normal man at the end. That's pretty bad to me

Tom Mills I'm not saying that it's a perfect movie-- it's far from. The fact he was making so many shitty suits out of fear and trauma was all but explicitly stated in the movies, and the fact that he saw them as failures was also all but explicitly stated. But, sorry, you're right-- the only facts that a movie provides are the ones it tells us outright. It never shows us anything and expects us to be smart enough to understand what that means. And if it does, we cannot dare to think of those things as legitimate parts of the movie, because the audience should never be expected to think! Word of God is the only authority, nothing else! *sigh* Hate the film all you want. Hate that aspect of the film all you want. But don't attack other people for daring to think differently about even one aspect of the film than you. I'm not saying it's a good film, just that the way that I viewed and interpreted the character's mental state-- and it's not a stretch, these things were all but explicitly stated-- that particular aspect makes more sense than people give it credit for.

I think the Mandarin punchline was the lamest thing Marvel has done with what could have been a potentially great villain. Its shane blacks fault, he said he wanted ironman 3 to be a techno crime thriller. Which wouldve been cool until he came up with the bright idea to make mandy and actor, which sucks balls cause i was starting to accept this realistic take on the mandarin without the magic rings. And speaking of rings, i was thrilled to see that the ten rings symbol appeared again, cause they were the same terrorist group in iron man 1 which got me all nostalgic, until said tragedy happened.

There was some glaring plot holes and continuity errors but I love that so much of this movie was Tony outside of the suit, it shows that he is more than the suit. "If you are nothing without the suit, then you shouldn't have it." This proves that he believes in his own philosophy. Plus theres a whole scene of Ironman just saving a group of people falling out of a plane, its one of the only scenes in the MCU where the hero is just saving people, LIKE SUPERHEROES ARE SUPPOSED TO, instead of fighting whatever villain is threatening to end the world this year.

+Dick Hancock I don't even read the comics? I just thought it was a bad plot twist.

I actually liked the movie. I liked the way it showed how Tony was struggling after the events in The Avengers and how affect he really was by everything. I loved the scenes with him and that kid. It had its flaws too, and it probably was the weakest of the Phase II films, but I thought it was still rather good.

+Xanda Panda Thor 2 had potential. I enjoy it for what it is though.

+locutus94 Yeah, Tony's inner conflict tends to get criticized, but I think it was the strongest part of the movie.

locutus94 I loved Iron Man 3. I am glad I'm not the only one who liked it. It is my third favorite MCU movie, after Cap 3 and 2, and it's slightly above iron man 1 and avengers.

Im wondering how this movie crossed 1 billion in box office, but Cap America: Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy did not,

A few reasons 1) Everyone loves Iron man due to the first movie's success, RDJ, & the overall coolness factor of his suits 2) Cap before Winter Soldier was kinda lame. TWS is where they made him into a BAMF, but in his first movie and especially Avengers he wasn't exactly a people's favorite 3) Guardians were super unknown. like bottom-of-the-barrel heroes. Most people expected it to flop before release.

Winter Soldier followed on from First Avenger, which nobody cared about, and Captain America in The Avengers, which did nothing to make the character interesting. So nobody cared about the Captain America sequel. As for Guardians of the Galaxy, it was an unknown film that most expected to be stupid, so less went to see it. But people will flock in their millions to see another Iron Man, or indeed Regular Man, even if it's a mediocre film.

***** They did. And, if they weren't being judged against a film that made over a billion dollars, that'd be incredible.

I find all of this arguing stupid, either way I actually loved all Iron Man movies. This istn't a "oh this doesn't make sense" or "Iron man is my fave (he actually is but thats besides the point) Iron man is the best her0 n0 d0ubt 1n my m1nd I l0v3 1r0n M@n dont hate on him your just jelous ur not iron man scrub" I am just saying the movie wasn't that bad. But I guess you are honest trailers and all you do is funny rants, so I won't get butthurt on this. *We all have different opinions*

Taha Umrethwala meh i kinda liked the 3rd movie, although there was alot of shit that didnt make sense like Killian becoming evil over one missed meeting, but i enjoyed the movie nonetheless. I really liked when he brought in all of his suits and just rekt everything.
