This video goes over how to make two units, the honeycomb unit and the PHiZZ unit. Link to Deviantart: theinfinitycree... Link to Etsy: www.etsy.com/sh...
Your demonstration is so clear and so easy to follow, not only that you also give us detailed paper sizes, etc. I am wondering why many others do not give detailed information as you did, do they want us to watch and fold their models?🥱😴🥺😩. I will make this model now!

Danny Holmes I used 8.5 inch by 11 inch printing paper, which I then turned into into an 8.5 inch by 8.5 inch square, divided the square into 4 parts (4.25 inch by 4.25 inch ), then divided each square into halves (4.25 inch by 2.125 inch) just keep the 1:2 ratio and you should be fine using any size paper

thanks! the paper that I used is like standard printing paper, and you can usually get it from like a staples if you have any in your area. Or perhaps Walmart, they should have a good selection of colors.

I love your tutorial, but I'm just wondering where you were able to find the instructions on how to make the unit. There seems to be no other source on how to make it. Thanks!

If you're going for a buckyball that is 90 pieces or larger, then yes, there should be hexagons around every pentagon. Here's a good picture of the 90 piece buckyball paper-model.com/img/buckyball-split.jpg Think of a soccer ball, or a football. If you're making a buckyball with more than 90 pieces, please let me know so I can better help you.

exactly how many parts need to build the Carbon Structure? Please
@antizero100

It took me 180 units for the carbons structure, but you can make the structure as long as you would like by just adding more pieces in hexagon formation

Every time I attempt one of these balls I have trouble closing it at the end. Do you have any advice for that?
@antizero100
9 жыл бұрын
Hmm If when you try to close the ball, it starts to come apart you could always try using a little dab of glue to hold in place the units that come apart when you try to close the ball. If you don't want glue, you could use the mini office clips to hold the ball together while you're putting in the final piece. If you're having general problems putting the final piece in (the other pieces aren't coming apart) I suggest starting to slide all three pieces into one another at at the same time, then slowly slide all three pieces together until they close. Let me know if you still have any problems. Good luck!

+The22g Is it even possible to do it without glue? The way the pieces are made is so the you have to open one piece in order to hook another piece in. The angles make it impossible towards the end of the piece. I even use paper clips to keep most of the structure firm. Even then, fitting in the final pieces neatly never works. I've tried several times over the last few years.

Yes, it's completely possible to keep the pieces in place without glue. Perhaps your folds need to be sharper, or it might help if you used a lighter weight paper. I've made several of these phizz unit balls, and've never really had any trouble. The sharper the crease, the more stable each joint between three units should be.

Just to be specific, I am referring only to the Honeycomb units....The paper that I am using is pretty thin origami paper. Any thinner and I'd have to use phonebook paper. Also, I always fold all my paper very sharply and with precision, so I know that the folds are not the issue. My main problem is that I have tried so hard to close the piece and it never works. I half-assed it once, but it looked like shit, and fell apart anyway. I am determined to make the structures with the honeycomb pieces because they look amazing and I've had my heart set on this for a while. Is there any way you could make a quick video for the final stages of assembly? I desperately need help. Please.

Hahah I'm so sorry I thought you were talking about the phizz units! Oh my God. Okay I know exactly what you're talking about. For the size of the units that I made, I did use glue, because at that size it is nigh impossible to keep them all together - maybe if bigger units were utilized, the glue wouldn't be necessary. At the end it is indeed very hard to close, so what I usually end up doing is I fold in the little part that's sticking out on both the pieces that are coming together, so that they just slide into each other directly without having that little overhanging part hook them together. Before sliding them together I add a little dab of glue, white school glue or pva glue and hold it in place for a few minutes until the glue set. Again I am sorry for the misunderstanding, and please let me know if you are still having trouble.
